How about ship curses.

  • I have wanted the shape and appearance of our ships to be expanded further than just painted hulls and sails.

I was thinking, what if ships could be cursed? Imagine a skelly curse for our ships that make them take on more of a skeleton ship appearance, or a ship with gold growing from it.

I think curses or skins for ships could open the door for so many more designs for our ships all while keeping the same layout/hit boxes.

  • As long as it’s also locked behind PvP. Being seen from that distance with a glowing hull from gold or even a spectral hull has to be an award for earning it in combat.

  • @tek-lt Ideas like this should always be an open door for Rare to take and likely have up their sleeeve. Imo

  • Shape is a big deal, the hit boxes for cannons and guns needs to be adjusted for every little change.

I do think they could allow players to sail the skeleton/phantom ships which already have the right hit boxes.

  • @foambreaker Yeah the Hitbox/shape would have to aligned with the default ships, but the ships could have unique features like other NPC ships, maybe even engravings containing silver and gold, I think the possibilities are endless and would give us access to a whole new category of cosmetics to work for and buy.

  • @tek-lt lol not hard for rare 🤣 consider the many hugmungus sets they have that have no issue with this. Add all the sets you want. It's up to their design team ultimately.

  • I just want my own skelly ship...
    They look so dope...

  • It would be awesome. This is another reason why captaincy was honestly so disappointing. The level of customisation was tiny.

I want vines and chains all over my ship.
Fog like the ferry of the damned etc.

  • @tesiccl

HARD no. They have enough exclusive (i.e. cool-looking) content locked behind PvP already with the ghost and skellie curses, the guardian/servant ship decor, figureheads and trinkets.

Extended ship customization like this should be available for any and all gameplay styles, not just the fighters. A pirate who spends every game session fishing or digging up chests or delivering chickens "earns" rewards in this game every bit as much as pirates who spend every second sinking other ships.

  • @thegrimpreacher oh I agree we’re all equal pirates. I just meant in terms of feat for something so grand as a spectral ship, like the ghost/Skelly curse. Tbf this game needs more cosmetics encouraging PvP, waaayy too much is PvE oriented, we need some balance.

  • @mostexpendable Can you imagine a ship set that vibes off the aesthetic of the one sea fort with the veins growing all over it. Like a Jumanji boat or something XD

  • @captaintibbz exactly. It feels like a missed opportunity. Maybe if we get a Sea of Thieves two one day…

  • @mostexpendable Seas of Thieves , future open world game , where guild can actually be used XD lol pipe dreams

  • @captaintibbz Exactly. I can envision so many designs straight off the top of my head, it would literally change the aesthetics of ships we encounter, and if they chose to go wild with it and create 100 or more different designs we would have so many unique ships on the seas, some very hard to earn while others a little easier, imagine killing the shrouded ghost and because of that your ship receives a shrouded curse where your ship has fog emitting from it and cracks of pink like the shrouded ghost bleeding from the hull.
