I know this has been asked for a long time, but is there anyway to have a better way to choose a pirate, even just being able to role pirates based off of gender, weight, skin tone, etc... I feel like this would make the game so much better overall and just be a huge quality of life mechanic.

Theres not preset faces, its entirely based on an unknown number of sliders, but you can get some very wild faces. Some will look more samey than others but i think that just happens when a lot of sliders are near the mid zones. Its not easy to copy most characters faces, only cosmetics if they use common items, i have seen a lot of people copy phuzzies cosmetics, but i have yet to see a phuzzy clone with his same face.
People out there trying to win beauty contests with their pirate. The amazing thing about picking your pirate regardless of what they look like, is that it doesn’t matter at the end of the day. You don’t see your pirate the majority of the time, unless you’re always emoting or watching your own pirate through someone else’s monitor or stream. And anyway, we’re all beautiful because we’re all ugly, or as Rare call our pirates, “wonky” xD
@burnbacon i like to change my pirate every couple of months for something new and refreshing, i know a lot of people who do the same, also this would really help new players starting the game and would be a huge quality of life change for when starting the game, im sure its not difficult to do, they could probably figure it out in a day if they tried. SoT is ever expanding and this would allow for people to help find what pirate they want faster, rather than spending hours on end trying to find the pirate they want. just an easy gender option would be game changing for searching for new pirates.

So what if people copy someone else right? Who cares? That is just more of the "I am unique and don't let anyone in the future be like me" which is a game killing attitude that prevents new players from enjoying the game.
Like the line from the Animals song: "...All the good places are taken...".
@sammyr0cks Yeah I learned that through all my time on oblivion, can never be too sure how your character turned out until you see them in the lighting of the actual game, sometimes the difference can be astounding lol.
Know this is old, but I actually like the pirate picker, but there's always room for improvement. I think a nice feature would be if you favorite a pirate it has a higher chance of using similar styles to the ones you favorited, say the more fat or burly pirates you favorite the higher chance of randomizing new ones of that type. Kind of a way to lock down a certain look without giving complete control either. Sounds like could be a nice compromise?
