Cheating Seems Rampant...

  • For reference, I have 4416 hours and am heavily into PvP. (Legendary and Triumphant Sea Dog)

The people's aim in HG PvP seems straight unrealistic, in the insane waves where ships rock heavily people aim high into the air and shoot cannons that land perfect on players constantly shot after shot. This issue isn't rare even, it seems 90% of the fights are like this. We need Sea of Thieves/Rare to admit that there in-fact is an active cheat tracker. Why is this information such a "secret".

I think it's a "secret" because it just doesn't exist... they heavily rely on reports which is a terrible way to tackle this seemingly huge issue.

  • @capt-soul-beard commenting on anti cheat and anything they’re doing to improve on it only tips off the people who are doing the cheating.

That take is literally useless. Stay silent does nothing as well and tips off players who aren't cheating. Microsoft should be able to support Rare to produce an anti-cheat that works properly.

Let's assume you're a cheater and know that Sea of Thieves has implemented an active anti-cheat. How will this information help you as a cheater?

  • @capt-soul-beard Kind of same way as if you are trying to break into a house and knowing window/door locations/anything that would help you to get in and out undetected. Obviously if they invent their own, super good anti cheat it would be more difficult, but if they would get one that already exists, the people who create cheats would know how to breach them better. I am not a programmer, someone can explain this a lot better i'd imagine.

  • lol he's allowed to talk about cheaters.

This is all literally just speculation, it's like you're saying in the real we shouldn't tell people there are cops because it will make criminals avoid them. In turn this will make non-criminals feels unsafe.

This point people that keep bringing up is beyond stupid and makes no sense. What damage will it do to make players comfortable in knowing there's an active cheat tracker?

  • Something that is undeniable is that many people that played HG competitively increased their average performance significantly

They improved their shooting, their naval, their decision making in offense/defense.

As the consistency in accuracy rises it makes it nearly impossible to make accurate calls on cheating

Add on the lag/server issues and clearly more server issues that effect combat when they bumped the ship count up again and it's a real tough call even on the weird stuff (excluding obvious cheats that are out there)

  • @capt-soul-beard I don't talk about that at all.

All I am saying, not providing the name of the anti cheat software they are working on and more details, would help them to prevent cheating for longer. And thats all I know about it.

  • @capt-soul-beard a silent alarm breaking into someone’s house is more effective than a loud noisy one.

  • @wolfmanbush agreed! I was hard into arena when it was around, then I felt my skill dip slightly when it disappeared, the fact HG is around and I can use it whenever I like helps keep me topped up and ready for a fight whenever, even against bigger ships. It also taught me not to take losses seriously, it’s just a game at the end of the day.

  • cheating is indeed rampant.

  • @bun-e-hopps they could quite easily nerf how potent some of the cheats are by rebalancing the PvP. Cheating and use of 3rd party software only further exploits all the OP meta's of this game. It's time for change. All live service games switch up there combat from time to time to nerf meta's and breath some fresh air into the game.

  • @a10dr4651 precisely why I've been calling for a combat overhaul.

  • Hi there,

We do not discuss the tools at the enforcement team's disposal for obvious security reasons. The more information provided the more can be used to create loopholes and workarounds by bad actors. While we know this lack of transparency can be frustrating it is necessary. I hope this provides at least some insight into why things are handled as they are and I will drop anchor on this post.

    Regards,
