Emissary Flag Recovery Change

  • Successfully retrieving your own emissary flag from a combatant, wreckage, etc before being sold or despawned, should allow you to reraise the flag without penalty to your emissary reputation. aside from recovering any treasure/materials, emissaries other than Reapers have no use for flags except for just a small portion of gold.

    if we recover our own flags, we should be able to raise them back on the back of our ships. theyre useless to anyone but reapers otherwise

  • I disagree

  • @hiradc how so? everything there is true. there's no reason for anyone but a reaper to try and recover those flags. if a reaper can defeat ships for their flags to sell for coins and emissary reputation, as well as increased value for those items the higher their rep, why shouldnt anyone be able to recover their own flag from being sold and use it to regain their rep?

  • Absolutely no reattaching the flags. Loosing your flag by getting sunk, is the prize you pay for the bonus you get. If anything you should have to pay a fee to the trading company for disgracing their flag.

    Also remember, that by raising an Emissary flag, you become a floating PvP beacon. The Reapers would love to offer their services in keeping the balance in the game. Its all about the risk-reward balance.

    This would be cheesable:

    • get to grade 5;
    • claim emissary;
    • scuttle your ship;
    • sail back with new ship to where you got sunk and pick up your emissary flag;
    • do the emissary quest and/or more voyages for the faction;
    • 5 minutes before the end of your session and when you're safe and close to an outpost: reattach your flag and deliver the loot with a 2.5 multiplier.

    Also, when you're busy gaining emissary grade and you think you might encounter a hostile crew: sell and scuttle, pick up your flag and continue getting loot - when the thread is gone (or busy with something else), reattach and continue.

  • should allow you to reraise the flag without penalty to your emissary reputation

    As a Business stand point. You should be "penalized" for losing it in the first place. Maybe pay money in the grade amount or you lose a grade or 2. But you should be able to reattach it sure, but not free or without punishment. You are representing a faction, if you lost a flag that shows your support I would be upset but pleased you at least recovered it.
    (and you have to sail to an outpost to complete this)

    But 9/10 most people dont recover the flags during pvp anyways :p

    Following ways to make sure it cant be cheesed

    • If you scuttle, you cant reclaim/reattach
    • Once you claim grade 5 voyages, you can't reattach either. Even if sunk/scuttle
    • If your grade 5, you go down 2 grades. (harsh?)
  • Im going to have to say no to this one, the flag is already free, having to raise it and get back that em grade again is the punishment for losing it in the first place.

    As for non reapers having no use for flags other than a small portion of gold, that couldnt be further from the truth, a grade 1 flag is worth more than a captains chest, and a grade 5 flag is just under an athena chest in value, and thats without a reaper emissary up in the first place. So these flags are very much useful to non reapers, especially now that you can sell flags to the skele at outposts.

    No. I get G5 flag. Scuttle. I can run under the radar until I'm ready to turn in. Or attack another G5 as Reaper.

    The only boost you should get is if another crew puts your flag on their ship and you recover it. You get 1/4 of what the flag would be or it counts towards emissary but is still 1g.

    Even that I'd prefer not to see even though it could benefit me.

  • Nope absolutely not. Why should you be rewarded for getting your flag back when you lost it in the first place? Emissaries are a risk/reward mechanic. If you get sunk and lose it, tough, that’s the risk.
