Ghost Ships in Fog

  • My friend was recently sailing through fog and came across a ghost ship, which he dispatched and continued on his way. He said it felt eerie and thematic. Likely, it was someone's OoS voyage that he crossed, but it seemed like something that would fit in well.

What say you, crews of the seas? Would you like the chance to cross emergent ghosts in the isolating fog? I would!

  • @capn-cayde good idea. We can throw some rare ghost ship into mix too!

  • @capn-cayde
That would be really cool! Though, I think that may be a little difficult to complete for the average player. Personally, I think this could work better as a "Ghost of Crook's Hollow" encounter/creepypasta; you may not actually see anything, but you hear enough to convince yourself to look over your shoulder. Rare could add a sound effect or two when sailing in the fog and let fan speculation and paranoia take it from there.

  • Honestly this sounds like a really cool idea. Kind of like emergent skeleton ships, but only where there is dense fog. You go through the dense fog and maybe a certain music or sound plays and then a few ghost ships sail out towards you and possibly engage. Might want to make them a bit more robust than the normal ships (they take what, 3-5 shots to take out?). Maybe make them equivalent to the Burning Blade in "health", but not count towards those commendation or anything obviously, and less of a challenge because there would be far fewer ships. Drops of ghostly loot, and a rare chance at dropping a ghost captain skull?

Oh, that could be interesting. I wonder how that could work.

  • @lucky11

I think if they acted more lost than aggressive, allowing the player the choice of direct interaction, it could be cool. Maybe even some just fading away, more like the rowboat of the damned.

I absolutely love the idea of haunting sounds in deep fog or near certain island spots. Imagine with that increased creaking and dead silence, the sound of a cannon followed by a shout...

  • It would be cool if it was the ships before they became shipwrecks and it's one of those situations where you could see visions of life on deck before succumbing to the dangers of the seas

Could investigate and find clues and treasures and see visions of NPCs

  • @wolfmanbush we have top tier OoS voyage here.

  • That is a brilliant idea. Make fog a world event. I love it.

  • @capn-cayde LOve it!

  • @capn-cayde. This is a very interesting detail that fits in well with the weather conditions in SoT. Would have added entourage, and a bit of a ghostly theme during the fog.

  • @wolfmanbush

I also had pondered something akin to this. The ghosts of lost or wrecked ships, trapped in the fog and needing help to travel to the ferry. I think the idea of it appearing to be a 'living' ghost ship adds to the enigmatic and spooky factors.

I wouldn't mind if there was a rng for either type, lost or combative. The thing that made it spooky to my friend was when he couldn't see the ship but it started firing wraiths at him, their howling specters piecing through the fog at the last second before impact.
