Need Character Creation Update

I sitll don't understand why we have to choose randomly generated pirates, creating your own is equally as unique.

So your pirate is "unique" and not based off a character or some streamers look alike.

I've spent way too much money buying Ancient coins to simply change my pirate because

Seems to be a You problem and not a game problem. Nobody forced you to spend money in this game.

Consider giving my post here an upvote! While I think it's fine to have pirates randomly generated and whatnot, I really do think that the pirate appearance potion should give you a stronger idea of what your pirate is going to look like. The idea was to change pirate appearance potions in particular to show you what your new pirate will look like with your currently equipped gear, as a change.

This has been a highly requested feature for a while now, I don't believe it is coming. They may improve the creator by including a male or female option but aside from that I don't see them changing much about it. My son used a pirated appearance potion and I lost my pirate and I spent about 30 minutes a day for 2 weeks just generating pirates to see what all I could get and stumbled across the best looking pirate i've seen in this game and now I am happy with it. Just keep generating, there are some really good pirates in there.

Its clearly not only a "you" poblem when tons of people in the community loudly keep asking for this feature.

And rightfully so, because the pirate generator is terrible. It is literally designed to play like a slot machine and waste your time.

In this game i see too many people trying to mimic pace, phuzz, and jack sparrow, and most games with in depth character creation are either games where your face in a helmet 24/7, or its a single player game. Most multiplayer games with character creation tend to be very limited.

Seeing how many people are on the seas with not just phuzzies cosmetics, but you can tell they grabbed a potion to get close to his look. It isnt an issue to the same extent as some one cheating or exploiting bugs, but i dont want to see every other pirate copying something or trying to look like the most handsome gigachad pirate possible.

Again, this doesn't happen in any other game with full character customization (like mmos which usually have hide-able helmets). 99% of players make their own unique looks. I'm not sure where this paranoia is coming from.

Also what does any of that have to do with the pirate generator issues, when you can literally do the same thing with the generator and the only difference is that it wastes a lot of people's time due to its poor design.

Its not paranoia, i just dont agree that people wouldnt duplicate famous characters when it comes to this game seeing the track record of people trying to make jack sparrow and phuzzy lookalikes.

This has to do with op's first point about people still being unique if they could create custom pirates and nothing more. The whole topic of total customization vs randomized is a separate point i could touch on, but i have a fair few times before on other posts and would rather focus on the first point instead since its new.

@hoboetic I also feel having more customizability of character design is good. I don't know how much this affects things like RAM and processing and work hours needed to implement, but if it all sorts itself out I would really appreciate being able to customize like the way one can customize a Mii character in Nintendo being implemented!

@zimited8670 Yeah, I'm not sure anything about game design either. It just really feels like the devs need to shift focus for awhile though, because instead of taking time adding more and more commedations and features, there's alot that needs to be refined or added. Character creation has been broken since day 1.

There's alot of characters you can select and it makes the makeup glitch, or outfits just look very strange lol

@burnbacon I meant its a game problem because some of the facial features will cause makeup to glitch out, or warp the design of things. But there's no way to predetermine that'll happen until you've actually selected the character.

@goldsmen My whole thing is, who cares? I don't think there's that many people (myself included) that religiously know about streamers or care to copy them. The majority of people would rather have their own character the way they like it.
And as buddy already said, you can still copy a pirate it just takes more time to rng.

If you're creating a pirate with a specific look in mind, it's damn near impossible without sacraficing alot of your hopes.

E.g. I have a very specific height, body type, skin tone, that I desire and I'd rather their face not look busted.
After 2 hours of boring cycling through, you'd be lucky to get the height and skintone but than the face isn't good etc....
It's really genuinely frustrating that they already have all the looks in the generator that I desire, I just can't match them all together.

Even if somebody pretends to be a streamer, what does that do? Nothing. It doesn't get them fans to follow their fake channel, it doesn't generate revenue for them, its just kids pretending to be something their not for a server of 5 other ships? Who cares. If people follow the streamers on twitter and watch their streams, I'm sure people can easily distinct that's not the person they watch.

@hoboetic Hmm maybe they're doing broad strokes still when it comes to everything and they plan to fix all this small stroke kind of stuff eventually. I believe Rare know what they're doing. I would agree with a decision like that.

That is by design. Rare has already stated that they were worried if people could create their character, that their characters would not be ugly enough. They dont want people to have perfect pirates, all you can do is go at it with no expectations and just see what looks good and go from there, rather than looking for the exact character you are imagining.

If you go at it with a specific face in mind then you will sit there for hours just to choose a look that you will hardly see your self other than occasional emotes. It would be nice to have some qol changes to slightly narrow down a general look a little bit more, but we dont need a lot more than that.

As for not many people who know about streamers, my friend, you should see the raw numbers that some of these streamers get on average, its clear as day that a lot of people know about them, even if you personally dont.

I for one strongly upvote this thread, even if Rare only added the ability to choose between female and male, we should not be FORCED to sit there for countless hours looking at half the characters not the right genders we are wanting to see. In this day and age, you should at least be able to select what sex you will want to be FORCED to randomize…. And adding a little bit of extra customization certainly wouldn’t hurt either.
