Company reputation levels should be increased to 1,0000

  • Hear me out before you say “It’s just numbers”

It’s more than that, it’s a sense of progress, when me and the crew are deciding which emissary to run it doesn’t matter to me because I am maxed in all companies. This often leads a lot of people to not run any emissary due to having a ton of gold and maxed rank.

We could get titles and cosmetics along the way, I think reapers, GH, OoS, and merchant should go to 1,000 and hunters call can stay where it is or increased to 100 unless we get the hunters call update.

I already know some of you will say that we will just want the level increased again after reaching 1,000 but reaching level 1,000 should take a long time, it shouldn’t be easy, and this will keep people from reaching 1,000 too quickly, plus we will have to reach 1k in 4 companies which will be enough to keep up grinding for a long time to come.

As for Athena’s fortune, 30 seems like enough considering it isn’t ran as often as others, if anything, a bump up to 50 wouldn’t hurt.

  • Sorry for the title, I meant to put 1,000

  • Adding titles all the way up that high is a lot, adding cosmetics is unreasonable. There is plenty of post max progression with commendations and emissary ledger. And I’m sure 75 won’t remain as the max for all of them forever. I just don’t see a reason to put in so much work and effort just to simply allow more progression, its better to add new quests and other content and then expand the level caps incrementally when that content comes out.

  • It is literally over 9000...

  • I rather the level not be increased especially the Hunter call until they’re like new voyages or something meaningful added for the trading companies like emissaries.

Trading Company hideouts would be a wonderful small reward for those who reached level 100

  • I think this is a great idea, I have suggested this before too. It's a lot more enjoyable to sell loot when you see those faction level's go up. You have a massive pile of loot before the end of your journey, I'm sure all of you have thought ''hmm I wonder how much my rep lvl will go up after selling this''

Nothing in the game would change, all players including myself who already have 75, won't loose a thing. Having 75 means nothing. And if you stop playing for 6 months and come back and a lof of players have lvl 250, this takes NOTHING away from anyone and it would be your own fault you stopped leveling up (if that even matters at all). I wonder what my reputation would be now if there was no cap to begin with.

The only thing I would like to see, is some control over alliance servers, but even then, what's the difference how one gets it, if they got it in a legal rule abiding way?

You can break your back whole day and make a 50 or you could get it of a scratch card. 50 is 50. Not the best comparison to the alliance servers, but if someone really has some complexes about other people having more levels than them, please feel free to join those alliance servers. I personally don't care about what level any other pirate has, I just wanna be able to increase mine to have more fun on the seas. Multiple things to work for would generate more fun than less.

Please Rare consider this, you can add cosmetics and titles with time. If hourglass PVP exclusive mode has 1000 levels, please make it for PVE too, also bear in mind future plans and how well this would fit with it.

I do not agree with the idea. :) I understand what you want, but I think adding in more ladders isn't the answer. I go back to the suggestion of looping grinds, where you are motivated to cause a change to the world (all be it temporary) rather than to increase a number.

  • @tybald I don't think anyone suggests this to be the only and permanent upgrade to the game. It's more like Captaincy, your statistics will just be tracked further. You would not loose anything, only gain.

I also like your idea about those loops, this would only enchance it.

  • @zig-zag-ltu
My issues with large ladders is I think they have a tendency to hurt more than help. For many the create a psychological need to complete them, and a large ladder takes that need and creates dejection by it's length. It creates a what feels like a near unreachable goal, and instead of giving them a long-term goal that comes while playing, it creates a need to no-life it, leading to burnout.

Plus, if you look on discord, you have more than enough gatekeepers who use such things to limit who joins crews. Demanding both HG curses, combined 300 levels, etc. People think that demanding someone have 1000 hours in a game (41 -24 days, or 25 40 hour work weeks) is a "reasonable ask". I don't think putting in something that has people going "Have level 1000 in all companies" is a great idea.

  • @tek-lt

I just don't really see the point though...

I understand there are many pirates with varied motivations, but I just like playing the game. Often times I even look in the Official Discord's new-swabbie-lfc because I like sailing with pirates that have a goal in mind so we don't all simply join the crew and ask "what do you guys want to do?"

I don't care if the level cap is 75, 100, 1.000, etc because I'll just play to play. I'm sure there are other pirates that will look at that level cap and think "yea, finally something to strive for!" But I look at it and just think, "meh, whatever, I'm just gonna keep on keepin' on."

To be fair, many of the people looking for hourglass crews asking for curses, 300 levels, et al are bad PVP'ers looking to be carried to the curses. I've rarely seen anyone with high requirements actually meet those requirements themselves...

Anybody who says "LF#, Servant HG, must be cursed or have 1000 hours, need MC/flex" is basically volunteering to steer/bucket because they're trash at PVP and just want other people to do the hard work. The ironic part is that the difference between a good helm and a bad helm can win matches, so once you lose the first one people start rage quitting. 🤣

  • @lordqulex
Now to be fair, I put some unreasonable requirements in my discord posts. I require Heat-death-of-the-universe (1.4*10^110) hours in the game. I have entry level positions that require 3-5 years of experience as well. I expect people to be willing to sink, and accept losing with grace. I also require you to have max level in the next faction that hasn't been released yet.

Somehow, my boats end up filling fast with players.

  • Personally I'd like to see something like that replace the ledger system.

The problem with the ledger is that alliance servers can unfairly push people out of the rankings.
As well, when I look at the ledger, I've been finding myself thinking "well I don't have time this month to catch up by that many points to hit gold so I won't bother playing"

It's just punishing players for not dedicating all their free time to the game.

  • @scheneighnay
I could be VERY wrong here as I don't interact with the ledger system much. However, I thought the reward was based on the highest rank you achieved during the season, not the final. Meaning if you reach top level early when less gold has been put in, you get the cosmetic regardless of where you end up at the end of the season.

No, if that were the case I would've gotten the sword I wanted after the last month, but I didn't.

  • @scheneighnay
    Fair enough.

Most of ledgers each month require about 2-3 hours of play time. Its fairly easy to hit the top, the ammount of players on alliance servers shouldnt change it enough to matter when its the top 25% get all the rewards.

  • I would like 100...150 if we're being silly 😋

  • @scheneighnay I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with the ledger system... More than once I've found myself top tier when I was just messing around in the game that month. When I would do cargo runs while listening to meetings I would routinely place top tier in MA without even trying. Last I checked it takes a little over a million gold earned, 1.25M maybe, to secure a top tier reward. Yea there will always be those pirates that compete for top 100 but if you're just in for the cosmetics it's not too bad.

I think what most pirates without a digital arts degree don't realize is that beyond concept art, these cosmetics really do take a lot of work to crank out. Especially for a smaller shop like Rare. I know we say things like "well if hourglass just had more rewards" or "I'm at the end of the ledger rewards" but like it's a lot of work to keep giving us more unique cosmetics; that's why we get a lot of recolors like the new Eastern Wind Jade Set on Twitch right now.

They could just just have a higher max rank and a new reward every month, rather than putting the new titles and cosmetics in the ledger every month.

Same amount of work being done by the devs, more people actually seeing it.

  • 1000 is a bit much, but the idea is actually really good. After 75, the fun of grinding rep is over.

  • @butterfinger750

Hunter's Call needs some kind of love. I wish they had emissaries or voyages or something. I understand that Megs and Krakens "help" (so little!) but the followers of Merrick need a nice boost for efforts. Now, I am not rank 50 and I applaud those who are, but it would be nice for everyone if a little attention was given to the fishermen and women of the seas!

  • I like it. But I would recommend to expand Hunter Call to Lvl 75; Athena to Lvl 50; Reapers, Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, Merchant Alliance to lvl 100. And then increase it further, step by step. In another words, make it longer to accomplish, but with well thought/ exciting challenges and rewards.

  • Just make them endless like the Guardian and Servant factions.

  • I once made a suggestion about a prestige system, wasn't well received because “it's just the same grind all over again”. So yea, good luck I guess.

I think that past a certain point, personal progression centered around making a personal number go up, should stop and instead focus be put on influencing the direction of the game world (even if only in temporary ways).
