@gatkong said in Over Achiever Sails for those of us who have already completed Conquering the Damned and Scourge of Brutal Bastions commendations the hard way.:
@captain-coel Thanks for your input. Changing from 18 waves of enemies to include fighting four bosses (all three Skeleton Lords: Mutinous Helmsmen, followed by the Two-faced Scoundrel and The Duchess simultaneously THEN fighting the Ashen Lord)... to a massively scaled down fight with only fighting one boss (just the Ashen Lord)... 50 times each is 200 bosses killed now cut to 50 bosses killed. 150 fewer bosses to fight! 150! That's a HUGE cut in difficulty for the Forts of Fortune.
So Scourge of Brutal Bastions is 10 completions not 50. It was 40 lords and is now 10. It was always easy, now its very easy.
And for the FotD, collecting all six lights could take an hour or more chasing storms, looking for other players, etc, but doing the actual fort is about 10 minutes. The tedious part of FotD is wiped out. Also, having sought out another crew for the pink light telegraphed your intentions, so enemy crews had a significant heads-up to prepare to ambush the FotD. There's no longer a need to give other crews such a significant advanced notice a FotD is going up. The way it is now, by the time a crew sees the red skull in the sky and sail all the way over to it, you're likely done and getting out of there. FotD is just simply easy now.
I think the Over Achievers is warranted for either, and especially if you have both.
Initially and for a long while, the hard light was white. Pink was easy enough to get by having your own crew kill you (yes it worked, then they patched it, and it still worked). Completing FOTD 50 times already has its own rewards, it doesnt need another.
I still dont see anything anywhere near as time consuming or tedious as finishing comms before they were nerfed in year 1.
Remember, back then level 50 voyages just gave you more loot, not better loot. Stuff floating in the seas, that wasnt a thing. We had 3 basic voyages, no emisary. The only world event was a normal fort that respawned every 3 hours. It was a very different and very empty game. Currently the game just gives you loot for doing nearly anything. Its easy to make 100k+ an hour, when those of us played in year 1, it was common to and hopeful to make more than 15k an hr or maybe get to 100k in an entire session. The tedium in year 1 was somethign special. All loot was valuable, cause i wanted to buy a 70k hull. As an example, it took me from 3/20/2018 till 4/23/2020 to go from setting sail to making my first 150k from gold hoarder. When I did it on an alt, I did in the opening session. Completing the commendatiosn you listed was always easy and barely tedius. Collecting 1000 captain chests when every piece of loot was important was a different level.
So still a hard pass from me.
