Will you use the hourglass once you reach level 100?

  • As the title says, I want to ask the community if you plan on playing the hourglass mode once you get your desired curses.

I am curious how the community actually feels about PvP. I know there are some people who play the mode because they want a good battle. There are also people who hate PvP and are only after the curses.

Once a player hits level 200 there are no more cosmetic rewards left. Some are tied behind certain commendations. I’m also curious if people will also quit after they collect the cosmetics they want.

Below I have 2 additional posts. Please upvote only one, the choice you will personally do when you achieve your goals.

  • Upvote if you will CONTINUE to use the hourglass once you get to level 100 and obtain the base curse

  • Upvote if you will STOP using the hourglass once you get to level 100 and obtain the base curse

  • A large majority of what I have heard through the grapevine is that people that enjoy pvp will move over to random adventure play and use HG for defense fights (post lvl 200 cosmetics and some before that).

and everyone that did it for the curses only is done when they are done

Now if the pvpers stick to that it will lead to more investment by pvpers which will be an overall positive as well as giving them more fights and will mix in more consenting fights into their adventure play

  • Haven't touched it yet, don't plan to

  • As the title says, I want to ask the community if you plan on playing the hourglass mode once you get your desired curses.

Once or ever if I do get my desired curse. No I will be done with it.

  • i didn't even go to level 10 , let alone that i would torture myself to go to level 100.

  • After 200 in both, I'm done. There needs to be a reward for every 100 levels after 200, with a special one at 500.
Edit: I'm nowhere near 200 yet. I care about personal hygiene.

i didn't even go to level 10 , let alone that i would torture myself to go to level 100.

I'm like level 30 in guardians.

    20 something in Servant's

I have barely played it and barely have anyone to play it with. Most people I am meeting don't want to touch it because it is full of sweats or cheaters.

  • @animeowl0807 Same here

  • We will probably continue after level 100 - just as now it'll be part of our sessions or a few dedicated sessions to it.

Depending on future content the frequency might change, but that hasn't anything to do with the curses (for me at least).

  • I'm gonna answer aswell.

As someone who has reached level 100 on Servants and is pretty average in combat I will continue playing trying to reach at least lvl 200 but first I want to get to lvl 100 on Guardians (I'm lvl 50)

However, I'm taking a break from Hourglass gamemode at the moment as it is really tedious and frustrating to grind. I sunk 180 ships to get to level 100, so I'm gonna stop for now and play only when there is a XP event for Hourglass.
In comparison to Servants, I'm lvl 50 on Guardians with just 25 ships sunk because I've only played Guardians during XP events.

I understand that devs want this feature to be a long term gamemode so curses are difficult to get, but I think they should add a way to increase XP by doing weekly/daily quests. Hope they improve it in the future.

  • Will get 200 in both then probs chill a bit, likely always use it so don't get rusty as adventure just doesn't compare
For context I'm around 75 in guardians and 147 in servants

  • I'm level 10 and I'm not using it.
Too much cheating and exploting atm.

  • I am at level 53 and it has been quite a grind. The way the system currently works it is more rewarding to lose on purpose non stop than to play a 30 minutes hit and run fight. Getting to 100 levels for one faction is extremely difficult for the average sea of thieves player and really unrewarding since you don't get any reward prior to level 100 besides basically one figurehead. I won't even mention the fact that SBMM doesn't even exist since i frequently get matched with players that have the curses. So to answer your question i propably will give up on the mode after level 100 and maybe play on community days here and there in order to get the level 200 rewards. I get that this is a pvp game and i wouldn't want to change that, and i actually believe hg pvp was a really good idea just not that well excecuted and with a couple more fixes it could become really enjoyable.

  • I am about 150 in both and i will at some point in the future go to 1000 for both, however after acquiring both curses and it has become less of a grind/race and once i hit 200 in both i will just take it chill, some sessions will be diving, some will be defending and some will be neither

  • @coffeelight5545 I will still use it, not jumping in and going for HG fights, but at the end of a session doing a few fights until sunk to get rid of the mass of supplies we always gather

  • Upvote here if you already don't play it...

  • When S8 launched, I started out doing guardians. I got to level 34, but queue times were getting unbearable and were estimated at being shorter with Servants, so I switched.

I hit level 111 in Servants a couple weeks ago to get the Repaired Skull and haven't really had the desire to touch the hourglass since.

I had a blast doing it (mostly solo) and I'm sure I'll do it again at some point, but I kind of got burnt out on it.

My hope is that they do some reworking on the defending side of the coin. That's what the long-term fun for this content would be (for me at least). But, as it stands, defending is basically pointless borderline completely broken.

  • I’m 255 in Servants and 208 in Guardians. I am nowhere near close to completing the commendations due to them not counting on Same Faction battles. Once I eventually complete the commendations for sinking 500 rival ships for both factions I’ll assess where I’m at towards reaching 1000. But until then I’ve definitely slowed down after hitting 200.
Mainly trying to get the 100 sinks on a Captained Ship and on a Grade V ship right now.

  • im goin to get lv 160 at athena and maybe lv 130 servants and then just do the commendation Just need the jacket from athena and some skelly variations and then im going to play for funn not trying to win everything maybe even give some wins to ppl but after lv 160 athena im going to pause a bit before starting servans

  • since ppl know here could i ask this also do u get more allegiance as much as streaks go higher or does the multiplier stop at 4?

  • After hitting 100 I needed a break but im sure I will go back from time to time.

  • After I reach 105 in Guardians to get the Legendary Curse, I assuredly won't grind the mode anymore. I will potentially still use it some depending on wait times if I'm just looking for a quick session over lunch or something, but in general I will focus more on other commendations and maxing out my Athena emissary. I have no desire at all to get the Skeleton Curse or get any rep in Servants. I'm just over 50 in Guardians currently so it will probably take me a bit to get to 105, but that's ok. Hopefully I can get some extra levels on community day and finish things out a bit faster.

  • ITT: CoffeLight asks for upvotes 😜 j/k

The way I play this game is not really "how it's supposed to be played," so that has a big impact on my answer. Though I am still of firm belief this is a sandbox game and you should play it how you want to, as long as it isn't breaking rules. So with that in mind, the way I play it is exactly how it is supposed to be played LOL!

Anyway... The PvP in this game isn't really my thing. I only dislike it because I'm just not really into the whole "naval battle" thing, I like guns and especially love melee weapons(fists only game modes are some of my favorite! And I long for the day I can punch people in SoT). I spend most of my active time in the game on land. I do World Events regularly, but I skip the Fleet events for these reasons. If we take a fleet(or end up in a PvP battle) then I helm and repair, guard ladders or board.

So with this in mind, my answer is mostly no. If I dive again it'll be because I am helping someone, but at this point everyone in my circle also has their curse(s). Gold versions aren't a good enough lure for myself or my circle, but if they added new rewards worth the grind I'd visit it again.

Tl;dr no, unless new cosmetics I desire are added

  • Really depends on the rewards. Yes for Servants, no for Guardians.

Guardians don't have anything past level 100 I want or believe I can feasibly obtain. (Level 1000? yea right.)

Servants I have some commendations to grind out for cosmetics. I think I will be more motivated when these come out, but it depends on the task. Sink 10 champions? I haven't even seen one. Sink 10 Guardians? I don't control that. Kill 10 phantoms? I can do that!

It all depends on the rewards and how I want my curse to look.

  • @freakazoidalb said in Will you use the hourglass once you reach level 100?:

since ppl know here could i ask this also do u get more allegiance as much as streaks go higher or does the multiplier stop at 4?

To answer this. The multiplier stops at 4, every sink after that will net you the same amount when completed.

I don't know if it still holds true, but I would expect it does. People found it was most profitable to turn in after your second sink, so that became the standard. Though you do have a commendation where you need to hit a streak of 4 over and over, so if you can reliably do 4 before turning in, I would focus on that.

  • I got over 100 in both factions. I still matchmake from time to time but for me adventure is still more fun with all the different ways to mess around.

  • I'll still do it, but likely less so than now. Love me a good fight.

  • @abjectarity Thank You Kind Sir

  • I'll keep dipping into it for as long as it has a reasonable wait time for matches.

  • I reached level 100 on Guardians of fortune side and have not played a single session for guardians after that, instead i'm playing the reapers side until i reach level 100 but playing on and off vs playing every day until i reached level 100 for guardians
I like the PVP but the problem for me it was to much grind to reach level 100 to be able to get the blessing and access the new area in the legendary tavern. I basically got burnt out as i am not very good at pvp and sometimes it was 5 to 10 loses in a row and it's just not something i want to go through again.
Add to the fact you have to play hourglass so much to reach those goals that it would have been better if it was maybe half of that?
and maybe get cosmetics at level 100 and anything after that just simple cosmetics but not the main goal set at 100 for each side.
So whenever, if i ever reach reapers side level 100, i will probably not play pvp for a long time after that.

  • I'm now lvl 96 in reapers, (only 12 athena) and am not sure what I'll do once I hit 100. Its been all solo for me.

I also have no idea what awaits me (apart from the curse ive seen ppl wearing) once I reach lvl.100 as I have purposely avoided all videos showing it off so I can have a well earned surprise when I reach it.

I imagine I will be satisfied just to unlock the areas themselves, and therefore probably will not play the mode too much after that as I'm not bothered about the cosmetics too much.

But I have been enjoying the HG mode 90% of the time.

  • I'm slowly working through each side to unlock the curses so once I cap out at the max for each one I won't be touching Hourglass until new items are added in the future.

  • So far my suspicions are true, the community is divided equally about the hourglass mode. I believe that this mode was a smart choice but it wasn’t fully developed properly.

Half the community needs incentives to continue this mode. Unfortunately the gold variants of the curse isn’t enough to keep people interested. I truly believe that we will get an update similar to the “Triumphant Sea Dog” Arena remake. This will most likely include new commendations and cosmetics past level 200 maybe even past level 500. There needs to be a completely new hourglass cosmetic set that’s exclusive to the new mode. This needs to be available to both factions.

It would be cool to see skeleton parts that look like the reaper costume. Maybe something with a skeleton skull and hood.
