PC players on console servers. HOW?

  • Hello world.
I decided to do this post to ask the most active community of the Sea of Thieves if they had encountered such problems or if I was the only one so lucky.
I'll tell you the backstory. It is important to note that we play only on CONSOLE servers. With the release of season 8, my team and I started playing exclusively pvp and met several times pirates who wrote during the battle VERY quickly. Literally a person did not cling to the stairs and has already managed to write 2 paragraphs. We started to have questions about how they have time to write, because we all use gamepads. There are 2 versions first - they are too cool and hit the D-pad very quickly. Second, they use a keyboard (obviously). But the second version crashes against the fact that we are playing on console servers. Perhaps (we don't know) you can connect the keyboard to the console and it will work in a text chat for quick typing of words. We have been asking these questions for a very long time and the last straw was this story that I want to tell you...

THE PC player came across my sloop which I created marked "find players only with XBOX".
It was like that. I decided to raise the athena to level 30 and make one veil of the ancients and decided to create an open session on my ship. I was approached by a sailor with the microphone on. He pounds on the keyboard and clenched his mouse the whole time at me it's right away.
and I decided to ask him how to do it because I was creating a server only for XBOX. He replied that he played on pc. After that, the rookie stole my ship started mocking me. then he set fire to the ship and walked out, I was surprised to check if I had a feature to play only with console players and was surprised to find that it was turned on. Then I went to his profile and saw a PC icon before the name of the game. And I came here in shock to tell you this story.

I have two questions for the community. Who play on console servers have you encountered such a "bug" ???
and what about fast typing during battle especially, are they superhumans or keyboard kings?

From the bottom I will attach materials that can confirm my words
clip where you can see that this pirate has left the game and that the option "only with XBOX" is enabled
you can see that the person is playing with a pc (why doesn't the picture open? :( )
I hope you can help me. It will be easier for me to sleep at night after that.

  • as far as I know it's console preferred which means there may be some rare scenarios where pc players might end up in the mix

  • The option is “Prefer Xbox Players with Controllers.” This means you will be placed on a server with players on consoles with a controller IF ONE IS AVAILABLE. Also, that does not mean the server will remain Xbox only. I also want to add, you are not creating the server when you connect. Your statement “because I was creating a server only for XBOX” suggests you think you are creating the server when you set sail, but you are only joining a server that can be shared by others. You popping into the game may cause the game to fire up a new server to make room for you, but more often you are joining one already running.

  • @ghostpaw i created a lobby ship just for xbox about server i didn't say but the idea is good. And we went to the server together, so I was thrown to the shared servers because there was no console?

  • @wolfmanbush sounds like an excuse. That's how it works with every part of this game :)

  • @jabcoise said in PC players on console servers. HOW?:

@wolfmanbush sounds like an excuse. That's how it works with every part of this game :)

in a low population area at a low activity time it's necessary to fill that server with some boats otherwise there would be dead servers beyond what already happens in some areas at some times

  • I do think once I had an HG fight which was a PC user, the reason I say that is right at the start, when my ship first surfaced and his ship was in the distance, I was shot in the back. I've never seen that cheat on Xbox but I see it on PC streams often.

I am west coast US so probably there is always an Xbox server available.

  • It's possible to plug a keyboard into an Xbox for chat.

I can type 75wpm still, but hit about 90wpm for a while when I worked in a call center...

Also, like Wolfman mentioned, it's a preference, not a lockout. You could still end up with PC players if there's not enough console players to fill slots.

  • I dont see how, you knew they were pc players. What gave them away?

He replied that he played on pc

So I can do the same if I want people to lie about it?

  • @burnbacon the picture does not want to appear, I screened that next to the game there is a computer icon in the profile. I have a photo but it didn't work

When you pick the ship and the server type, you are not creating a lobby per se, you are simply joining one with the paradigm you placed (The type of ship u would want, if your crew is locked or open, etc.) You then get thrown to that lobby but it throughout your stay in it, the game will search for other players if the maximum cap has not been reached yet. If the game is unable to find any players on xbox that match the instance, it will start pulling from players who play pc to fill up those slots. It will always first try to find xbox players, and then pc. The reason it might work like this is probably because it would become unfair to play the game without the game being able to bring player ships in, resulting in not a single player ship appearing throughout your adventure, the difficulty of your adventure would be drastically easier as a result, which leads the "xbox only" option as an easier option for xbox players to ultimately opt into.

  • You can very easily and without breaking any rules, use a keyboard on Xbox… I have a Bluetooth keyboard with the dongle plugged into my Xbox and SoT allows this to be used on Xbox. I have my setup more like a desk, with my Xbox connected to a monitor instead of a TV and I know multiple people with a similar setup.

Being able to type fast doesn’t mean they are on PC at all. Even though it says “preferred with controllers” doesn’t mean they can’t also use a keyboard. I don’t have a mouse plugged in, don’t know if that works, but lots of games allow you to use keyboard on Xbox without breaking any rules.

There is also the Xbox app that allows you to type remotely into your Xbox from your phone. Which is also significantly faster than the on screen keyboard of the Xbox.

  • You can play on console and use kb/m. You can also play with a controller and use kb to type.

  • @unleet1
@abjectarity I know that you can use the keyboard and mouse on the console, I did not know if it works. Thanks for the reply

  • @foambreaker sounds logical, it's a pity that such situations are possible at all

  • Any time you login or server merge, it tells you if you’re playing with players on pc or controller only in the top left corner of the screen. Keep an eye on this in the future so you know.

Everyone else is right, you may have selected Xbox only but the game may put you into pc servers if none other are available, that happens. It’s a preference, not a law.

  • I just had a similar incident I was streaming with twitch [mod edit] and I was having a good time on Xbox servers and I eventually found a reaper brig that hopped in the server and I immediately start to lag and to they start to steal some loot witch is fine I’m still having a good time and then I go to recently played with to find him on pc. So I invite him to an Xbox party and talking with and say ask him if he’s using a exploit or glitch or using hacks and immediately gets angered telling me that he’s streaming and he would never hack then leaves my party starts cursing and saying rude stuff about me for no reason whatsoever so I want to ban him and he tells me to look it up and I do and I was right he’s not supposed to be in my servers very rude and toxic do not follow or watch his stream very gross person and rude person [mod edit]
