Remove rock tall tale portals!

  • With S8 we can dive into the tunels of invasion from open sea, right?

    Why can't we do this same for talle talles?

    To make it cleare let portal appear after vote for Talle Talle in maner how Warsmith use her portals to Sea of Damed, now we dont need rock archs.

    After voting for TT we sail to open sea and take dive into sea of damed simple and elegant solution allowing to remove usless, ugly rock portals standing near each outpost this is Sea of Thives or Sea of Random Rocks?

  • Because Tall Tale portals look cool.

    I would like the intro monologue to be skippable though, only once portal hopping gets properly nerfed.
    Nobody likes having to wait for Calypso to finish talking for 10 minutes while another player is creeping up on them

  • 1000% agree.

    I've hated the things since the first day they showed up, and unfortunately, in all this time my feelings haven't changed.

    • They take up way too much space and are visible from miles. Spotting outposts and finding your way around the sea when disoriented is far too easy with them because wherever there's one of these rocks, you know there is an outpost.

    • They clutter the sea. Since the addition of shrines and forts, there are so many points of interest in the ocean that removing these portals would at least bring back a bit of the "open sea" feeling you got years ago when the map was less crowded.

    • They feel inorganic. Every outpost has its own inhabitants with their individual names and backstories, yet the Pirates of the Caribbean Castaway is present in every one of them—with the same hut, and the same massive rock portal. I get that when A Pirate's Life first launched it was a matter of convenience similar to Larinna and the Mysterious Stranger, but it's now been nearly two years since that. The Castaway could well have her own personal location with a single portal.

  • There is no open sea on Sea of Thives this days.

    One massive arch would look fine but 6 of them is way to much.

    I like castaway camp in each outpost it's make them a little busier places with is allways nice but that rock portals... nah.

    With so many point of intrest you allways see or move by something it kinda ruin that "land ahed!" feeling back from years ago.

  • The rock portals are actually a lore thing, when you dive you arnt diving to the sea of the damned. As well i dont find those rock portals ugly, and they absolutely have a use, when im navigating without the map, be it because i just dont need it, or because im on a row boat, those arches mark outposts to know better where i am.

  • Better idea: just have a "tear" open up to the SotD, similar to how it is with ghost ships. That way it takes away some clutter, and makes sense lore-wise.

  • @goldsmen i know than they are part of lore but it can be changes lorewise too, somehow of coruse.

    Ther are not idestrucible from lore side too and Dark Brethen dosen't like much players ventures into Sea of Damed.

    Like there is hole pvp decide thing event.
    Destory or save portal arches.

    After they destruction we can get [Cool lore story with cutscene] we all got dive/phase to/ open tear to/ into SoD. Like ancient cloud teach as ut via some hidden in stars story.

    Her you have cool lore arche, no stone arche explenation.

    Would you not think that little bit empiter sea would feel more like, sea?

    But i got you at rowing thing.
    There should be world map item (with 5 "ammo") you cloud use it like map on ship but if you get wet, on fire, you lose one.

    Then would it be ok if we got rid of them?

  • Yes, please! I don't know why they decided to place two of the portals directly west of their respective outposts, they've ruined one of my favorite screenshot spots at Plunder Outpost qq
    Really a bad move to have the portals block the sunset...

    Would love if the portals disappeared, or if they simply rose from the depths when a tale was activated, rather than always being there (like the giant siren statues & spire in APL tale 5).

  • As much as I'd love these things to be out as well, I guess there are legal issues to consider....

    If the deal with Disney explicitly said "players will go through portals", they might not be able to change that...

  • Because they are mysterious structures that nobody has really questioned....how did they appear and who made them appear?
    To simply travel to the SOTD?

  • I actually don’t mind the portal rocks. What I do mind is the other mountains and rocks that seem to show up every other patch. The seas are more crowded than a mountain range these days!

  • @ghutar You are right that the dark brethren dont want their enemies going into their domain, but as it stands in the games story, the tall tales are from before the brethren were in control of the sea of thieves, much like how pendragon still exists in tall tales because its themed that you are playing before he was lost.

    I still stick to the point that i dont think they look bad, they are very good landmarks, and as it stands, i dont think an emptier sea would feel more like sea considering the sea of thieves isnt part of the open sea but a collection of islands that as far as we know from the lore, is in a totally different world from the one outside of the shroud.

  • I agree they are ugly and out of place. Hope they get removed.

  • I was totally unaware that these rock formations were portal gateways. I find them useful for spotting where an outpost may be.

    If we were to remove them, why not keep just one in perhaps the centre of the map, or out in the Wilds/Volcano areas?

  • @rdrjj I won't go hunting for the thread, but I remember back when APL was first introduced, this was suggested in the forums.

    I would have preferred these "tears" to the goofy copy/pasted rock formations Rare cluttered the map with. Would have been lore-friendly and less of an eyesore.

  • @ghutar I actually think the lore is deeper than just the portal hops the one in the center of the map looks different and it has been speculated that this is where Flameheart returns from and or the Cap’n

    On a side note I like the portal hops still when just messing around with adventure mode and looking for FOF or FOTD

    Im just rock sceptic.

    And Wanda / Warsmith is able to create her own portals so no need for so much rocks.

    I love these portals!
    DO NOT REMOVE OR NERF THEM RARE!
    Hell personally I think Rare should do even more with them!

    From an aesthetic PoV ... I ... don't really ... mind them (And I most certainly get mad about stuff of that topic ... cough* cough* DA-Issue ...).
    Yet since Rare is probably somewhat bound to Disney about this, I find the chances of them changing that very slim.

    Although the suggestion of these stone arches to be removed and replaced with JUST the portals as soon as you activate ...
    Well ... yeah ... I don't see a problem with that.

    If many ppl want that. I see no reason to disagree IF nothing for the gameplay changes.

  • @lormiun to make it clear i just don't like numbers of rock littering sea nowadays and rock portal arches.

    Portals and all gameplay inclinations that come with them are more then fine!

    In 2018 map was much emptier now it stuffed to the brim.

    DA sails don't even start ugh... Im rather go for some % of more losses than put that ugliness on my slooop.

  • And here we go with the DA sails….

    There are 3 things that I “kinda” like about the rock formations.

    1. Helps me navigate some

    2. Can sometimes disable a ship before they make it to the portal

    3. A good place to “tuck” the ship whilst I tuck on a fort

  • down for them to be done if the castaway lady's hut gets gone too. We dont need that cringe facility in every outpost

  • @jj-h816 I meant evict the barnacled lady from every outpost and put her in 1 of th isle campls (could be wanderers refuge)

  • @guyrza I have problem with it at all, we travel for other tall tales. I just think that it looks like a homeless camp at every outpost
