120 FoV when?

  • Almost every modern game has the option to boost up to 120 FoV, why not SoT?

A lot of people install hacks for the use of 120. Just watch any TDM montage.

playing on 90 is nice, but transitioning to a game from 120 to 90 fov feels off. You are missing a 40* degree angle which is big.

Playing on 60FoV to see what it looks like, I don't know why you would hinder yourself on 60, can barely see your own weapons.

So zoomed in you can get lost in close quarter combat.

Is there a hardware limitation to not having 120 FoV built in the game? yet some hacks made by script kiddies manage to bypass this?
I heard that xbox consoles are the reason, yet other games that offer crossplay-platform seem to get it right, why not Sea of Thieves.

  • You probably saw some old TDM montages where some illegal adjustments could have the FoV to 120.

That adjustment wasn't intended to be possible and honestly those made the game look very ugly.

    Answer to the topic: Never.

  • @lem0n-curry
    Yeah by why never?

And yeah the old 120 FoV was with messing with steam files iirc.

But any hacking program for the game has this feature built in.

    Thanks.

  • I myself would be happy with 105 fov, but devs think its more important the game looks "like artists want it to look" rather than players with varying setups and screensizes get to play at a comfortable fov.

90 horizontal is simply too little on my screensize and viewing distance, and I always feel tunnel visioned in SoT.

Larger FoV is also already in the game, while you run your FoV is about 110 or so.

Anyways, these threads are always locked and no discussion is allowed on this issue.

I guess its seen as high fov = cheaters now, which is really annoying as players with larger screens need higher fov to feel comfortable.

Also funny how ultrawide users are allowed to play at higher FoV :)

Guess the same logic does not apply to them.

  • The FOV modification for Steam players was never intentional and has been removed in order to restore the intended settings of Sea of Thieves.

The game is designed for 90 FoV Maximum, anything beyond that looks distorted and broken.

There are no intentions to change this in future.
