que times are awful and SBMM dosent even work

  • the que times right now are so terrible me and my friends waited 2 hours in ques and finally just got off bc we were so bored... on the rare occasion we get a match the crew clearly isn't up to our skill level as we sink them in less then 2 mins (i timed it) so not only are the que times awful bc of the SBMM but even when we get a fight the SBMM didn't even do its job and it just isn't worth to sit in a que for half and hour to fight someone and instantly win....

  • Best thing I found.

    1. change the server type. Pc/Xbox or just Xbox. Just xbox I always find people every 5min

    2. two hours…. I hope you aren’t being serious. Maybe you should idk…wait to be invaded instead of invading? That way you can actually play while you wait

on the rare occasion we get a match the crew clearly isn't up to our skill level

Maybe they are tired and wanted a quick lose to keep playing faster? Could also you got lucky. Since it’s a rare occasion…

    I’ll say it again
The system is brand new. So many players rushing into battle and expecting to be placed into “good fights”. How about we all chill out and wait abit? Let the system do it job to properly adjust each player as they fight.

Everyone’s “skill” changes so fast the game has to calculate that and how often they actually win and lose. So many people purposely losing doesn’t help. That and it still open world so ambushes….

  • @type-wae bruh come on ...if it says 2-4 minutes and you wait like 6 to 8 or 10 even just RESTART!

Queues will bug and not find a game quickly. Leaving queue and rejoining might fix it otherwise a fresh ship is another option.

People sitting in queue for hours is mind boggling. If it's bugged just requeue. Trust me I'd know...I've given over 700 wins to people.

  • @mouse-n-keybord you think we didn't try re que? and getting a fresh ship means we have to get all our supplies over again just to not even guarantee it will work believe me we've tried seeing if captain ships are better then non captain ships we've tried switching servers and having different people host they don't work..

Looking at the new response from Rare it would be because of the servers you're on and just looking for the opposite faction. I figured all this already and have said it and they basically said the same thing:

Regions, low pop regions, 16 splits of match making(Xbox: solo Sloop, brig, gally servers and a set PC servers), similar ranks or win/loss and the new bit of info "stamps".

I've suggested VPN or open crew for finding new servers.

  • I feel like SBMM is not the best way to describe how Sea of Bones works... because most of us think of competitive FPS games when we think of SBMM.

SOT uses a modified ELO system.

While yes, it's technically a form of "SBMM"...the goal behind ELO is to reward appropriately for a win or a loss depending on your ranking compared to your opponent's ranking. Sure, the "SBMM" behind it may try to match you with someone of a similar "rank", but if it can't, it'll find the next best thing and reward appropriately for a win or loss because that's how ELO works.

So, if you're a low rank and are getting paired up against high ranking players, you're earning more in a loss than you would losing to someone of a similar rank...and conversely the higher ranked player is not earning as much beating the low-ranked player as they would by beating a similarly ranked player.

Mario Kart 8 online is a great example of an ELO system in a very simple form.

I just wish Rare was more transparent about their ELO system and how players are being rewarded for wins or losses based off of it. MK8 is at least easy to understand.
