Please understand that there are more then 2 timezones

  • Gold rush hour is on the same 2 one hour slots each day.

    the first at 17 UCT
    the second at 18 PDT

Or, if you live in wester europe:
16-17h (when you are driving home from work)
and 03-04h (when you are obviously sleeping)

This means players from my timezone (and others) are not able to ever take advantage of these multipliers.
Why not make it so that the Gold Rush hour follows the Timezone of the server?

I mean, even mobile games like Pokemon Go have their events set up so they are active on fixed hours per time zone.

Same thing with the Stress tests on Insider. Some timezones have a big advantage over others.
And I'm not saying everyone should be able to play/take part EVERY time. But please make sure every timezone is treated equally.

  • @mathpie I've suggested it before, but I feel like the most fair solution is to have the active time slot for Gold Rush move forward one hour every day.

That way, time zones don't matter. Eventually, every player's schedule could theoretically be touched. It wouldn't just be equally fair per timezone, it would be equally fair per player.

  • @sweetsandman yes this too is a wonderfull solution. And so simple.

  • yeah as someone from Australia, I can say it's pretty sucky having a gold rush at 2pm or 11am, standard work or school hours.

  • just make it so that the slot moves forward each day

  • 1pm and 9pm here in Florida lol. It really sucked working nights since I was usually either at work or still asleep. Now it's not so bad.

But yes...let's have rotating gold rush hours

Like it or not, but the fast fast majority of players are from Europe and the USA/Canada, so they made those time a bit normal times for those timezones. So it makes sence that the time are made so that they at least have a shot. I can agree with you that for Europe that time still isn't very handy, but otherwise those times would be to close to each other, wich would make it more difficult for other timezones. There is now an 11h and 13h gap between them, so every region in the world at least 1 of those 2 Rush hours would be during the day.

Pokemon Go is a single player game and you always play in your timezone. SoT isn't. A European player can be playing on a US-server. First of all it gives the problem how do you know wich server you're on? This means that most players won't even know anymore when their Gold Rush is. And if you do make it easily checkable, it would just be abused by people who just deliberately hop (VPN's) on Gold Rush servers.

And if you make it dependend on the time of the player on the ship: a player from central Europe can then just team up with a UK-player to have a 2 hour long Gold Rush...

It just wouldn't work for SoT.

  • @super87ghost

Easy fix. Make the next Gold Rush 5 to 7 hour's ahead or behind. Odd number will cause it to cycle through all the hour's cause 24 h days. That way timezone buddies can't scam.

Also, don't forget, not everyone in the US/EU has a "normal" work/sleep schedule.

  • Imo gold rush has run its course

with the very low organic activity and much higher alliance production and activity it's not really what it once was.

The mass cheesing of community days and double gold weekends makes it pretty irrelevant organically.

I would just turn every day into content incentives.

Gold incentives to do vaults, world events, shrines, voyages. It'll still get cheesed but it'll be far more organic-play friendly. Have something going constantly to incentivize engaging in content any time of the day, all day, not just cheesing gold.

Even gold incentives (real gold incentives for the time not just 3k or 5k) to do tall tales would help out with activity. (entire tale not checkpoint cheesing)

They already wrecked true risk/reward they might as well cater to organic play more rather than just continuing to feed the top of the chain more and more.

and have in game alerts about what is going on so everyone is clearly and regularly informed

  • 2-3 hour windows would be better. The few times I have intentionally taken part in the gold rush felt gross. RUSH RUSH RUSH. Or stack and wait around bored. Not that I need the gold. Now I sell sometimes and its like oh that sold for a bit more than I expect... must be gold rush. I actually was trying to adopt a policy with captaincy having ignored past progress that it would only be worth playing during gold & glory weekends so you make more progress out of your time spent then play other things in the meantime. I dunno if I missed them but gold & glory seems rare this season. I think there was 1? Community day was amazing though. Which for the sake of server stability they are no long doing gold rush when gold and glory is happening because people would stack loads of loot to sell and try to capitalize on the stacking gold bonuses. That lead to pure chaos.

Sadly they still seem to have not learned their lesson from year 1 during cursed sails they had specific fleet battle events in specific parts of the map on a clock rotation so depending on your work hours or your time zone you basically never got to see certain events so missed out on the rewards. They said they were going to try and be better about that in the future. Instead they just haven 't done another event like that but still have stuff like you mentioned that aren't like an adventure exactly but still follow the same flawed timing. Though one of the mentioned things might be due to their own work hours so while I agree with your point I also see why they would use specific timing for that.

  • Takes less than 3 min to convert. And you can even use your phone.

Last I checked, even. 10 year old has a phone

That was about having the Gold Rush for every timezone on the same time i was commenting about ;-)

But perhaps they should make 3 Gold Rush's, so every 8 hours one? In UTC it could then be at 4:00 (4am), 12:00 (12pm) and 20:00 (8pm).

It’s not that people don’t know what time events are at, it’s the fact that they happen at times that many people cannot play. In Australia, it happens in the middle of the day, perfect when people don’t have work or school but… most of the time they do.

  • Yep. These gold rush hours have never been seen by my friends over here in Australia

  • @mathpie current gold rush times in western europe (netherlands): 18:00- 19:00 and the other one late at night

Last I checked, even 10 year olds know how time zones work and that people live in many of them, which is the issue being discussed.

Do you even read threads before you comment on them? Your comments are always irrelevant and wrong.

  • @callmebackdraft

true, which means that if you want to gain some extra profit, you'll need to start playing at 17:00 ish to gather a nice amount of treasure.
I get home from work at 17:40. Most days I can start playing at maybe 19:30-20:00.

And I recon many players, with families are in that same situation.

  • @mostexpendable I feel your pain ;-)
