Season 8 PvP Changes

I guess I am what @wolfmanbush refers to as the "middle". I have completed all the xbox achievements except for the legacy arena one's plus one fishing one, as that is not my thing. Having done everything else, and still playing the game as a pve'r on a sloop, I provide plenty of opportunities for other crew's to take my loot and flag. I don't get upset by pirates being pirates, so for me the pve vs pvp balance is ok as an experienced player, and keeps things interesting.
In terms of what I would hope for in a new s8 update, I don't know that I would change much. Certainly if there was a way for all the sweaty pvp types to battle for supremacy somewhere eg at a specific sea fort then that would help me as I mind my business at the other end of the world doing my own random thing ;)

I am a realist, so I assume that any new season 8 mechanic to encourage pvper vs pvper action will only provide a temporary effect...unless this is a sneaky way to reintroduce the awarding of the legacy arena achievements and commendations. That could be a game changer!

If it offers some sort of competitive experience to those that lost arena or nal that would be something I'd see as a positive.

If people are able to practice more in a substantive way, that would be a positive

For me personally if it allowed me to do my extreme meg hunts and kraken hunts and skelly ships and that sort of thing while keeping risk but lead me to more adventure focused fights that would be ideal for me personally.

Long gone are the days where I knew nobody I fought and the encounters and fights were interesting.

Fighting the same not-so-large group of hoppers regularly isn't enjoyable even though I appreciate the risk

I really miss the randomness of prime adventure mode in this game.

@wolfmanbush I was a day 1 pirate, but I have taken several long breaks away from this game when it gets stale for me. I think that has certainly helped me to maintain a balanced enjoyment for the game over the long run. Even with long breaks away to the point of forgetting things, it somehow draws me back in and I soon regain my sea-legs. Thankfully I do not care overly for the cosmetics, as I have missed several seasons worth of rewards.
What I do enjoy the most about this game is the "randomness of prime adventure mode" you so eloquently describe.

there are some things where I just never lost the spark

hearing the meg music and watching them circle, seeing how beautifully the kraken is designed, taking out skelly ships, randomly encountering adventurers, the strange and unusual happenstance moments. The freedom of solo adventure.

When this game is full of life and thriving with adventurer activity there is nothing like it, in the best of ways.

Such beautiful scenery, the sunsets, the fog, the moon and stars. Like the first time every time

SoT Arena Battle Royale mode would've been awesome! Surprised they never tried that while Arena was out, given that BR's have been all the rage for a few years now.

that's why they didn't, trying to be unique

the issue being is that BR would have been pretty awesome in this specific game lol

even now, with all the dead organic activity it would probably get some decent activity in there just out of people not finding anything in adventure

a well designed back up mode could have picked up activity from those that gave up on adventure, and a br would be quite a bit better practice for people open to trying pvp

low cost losing is something that is really missing from practice. it's difficult for people to just find competitive practice without needing to make themselves a target first.

As a player who enjoys both pve and pvp, i have to honestly say that my most fun sessions in adventure mode have been when my mate and i get involved in a 3+ ship fight and come out on top - it's an adrenaline rush from start to finish......... that's what Arena could (and should) have been imho.

that's where most of my combat has been for years

I solo fleets which brings in a couple+ ships from the server and it's my own br, and everyone wants to fight which makes it great

Combat is SO much more fun in this game when it's chaotic with multiple ships, it really helps to bring down the not-so-fun parts of 1 ship/crew vs 1 ship/crew

I'm at the point now where i don't really care about gold at all - i still enjoy pve stuff....... but really i just enjoy sailing around and admiring the beautiful world RARE have created and seeing what adventure will come our way on that voyage. very much in the same boat in a lot of ways

I went from years of grinding every day to barely selling anything (and nothing at all for days/weeks) at a time

I feel like unfortunate things lead to positive results for me in some ways.

Losing motivation to grind, while surrounded by extreme cheesing going on, and nearly completely abandoning selling has allowed me to feel more free in play.

A lot of that is a luxury from effort though, having bought everything and having enough to continue to do so allows me to enjoy that.

Only thing I really want is to see a return of the organic experience with the meaningful and balanced risk/reward that got me to where I am so that other pirates can also get past the more difficult and frustrating parts of the journey, so they can enjoy what they put in effort for.

I think many of us were very fortunate to start when we did and benefited earlier on in ways that newer players should also enjoy imo, even if they have more opportunity through more content now than we did before it's not in a balanced risk/reward environment.

that's all any of us are doing in all the different ways we play

we enjoy the experience and/or we enjoy what comes from reaching goals within the environment.

I've read your posts/threads before, maybe you just are trying to push yourself into enjoying something you don't enjoy

Keeping a connection between those with the power of direction and those that face the effects of those decisions is valuable information.

We are all using our experiences and our anecdotes to discuss the environment. Positive and critical, it's important to maintain that connection for longevity of the product.

A positive is that they have these forums and allow people to post here, the positive and the critical.

Even if our experiences and views differ or clash they are still a valuable resource to offer in conversation.

Seems like you are looking for your place in the enviornment, something that feels right.

I don't see that search as an indicator of a mess I think it's just something we all go through, sometimes many times.

I've spent a lot of time there as well. Wherever that journey leads you I hope it's something that brings you unusual amounts of joy.
