Server shutdown compensation?

  • Was stacking merchant for almost 2 hours just to get a notification that server is shutting down in 15 minutes. I had to sell everything at the outpost I just left. I missed out on at the least 130,000.

Sorry, but what if you sell 20 captains chests for each 600 gold? (Captains chest value goes from ~550 up to ~1100)
Are you going to ask for compensation, because they could be worth more?

Did you make a gold plus that day?

  • This ain't any mobile action adventure game where we get some compensation chief, sorry tell you that. Also remember Ramsey famous words: "It's not about the gold, it's about the glory"!

Sorry about the lose though, but nothing you can't get anymore.

Lets look at the good side, they fixing the broken sword block right now:

  • 2 hour -3+ hour stacking is always a risk, an opt in risk

risk of pvp, risk of internet issues, risk of server issues/shutdown

Never stack loot in an online game

and if you do be prepared to face the consequences of that decision imo

  • @wolfmanbush I am 100% against stacking, but for merchant commodity crate flipping you essentially go around the map either clockwise or counter clockwise, buy what’s in surplus, and sell what’s sought after. To complete a merchant commodity crate circuit you need to go around the map 1 and a half times. I personally don’t view this as the “traditional” stacking where people just have loot on board because they don’t want to sell for a screenshot or the flex or because they only sell after 7 hours of playing/before they get off.

When it comes to merchant alliance commodity crate flipping, making a circuit around the map is how it’s supposed to be done. Hypothetically you can always just sail directly to the desired outpost but doing so you miss out on buying other commodity crates.

    Edit:
I welcome PvP as a merchant, I just sail against wind and hop off with kegs.

  • Threads like these really reek of entitlement

  • @funnyqchen sadly I don’t get glory anymore since I hit max rep almost 2 years ago

  • 维护到啥时候啊?

  • @schwammlgott I made 90k, maybe 70k with considering buying like 2 wood crates, 2 cannonball crates, and 2 banana box. I did buy supplies that never appeared in my barrels though so I lost like 15k?

Edit: I see your point with the price range of captains chest but merchant commodity crates prices are pretty consistent. I lost profits because I had to sell approximately 50 crates at a location that wasn’t sought after

You bought all that stuff? Really...there is just one thing I have to say about this: HA! HA! (Quote from Nelson Muntz) 😜

  • Really?
Do gamers these days just expect everything handed to them & scream 'compensation!" when something happens that they don't like?

The game does not owe you money just because they had to shut down the server for some reason.

  • So, you want compensation because you decided to stack for 2 hours, rather than selling any time you pass by an outpost, just because of unforeseen circumstances? This is not unlike people who complain that they got sunk by other players because they decided not to sell for 2 hours strait.

Rare didnt force you to not sell for 2 hours strait, you chose not to sell for those 2 hours of stacking of your own free will, if your afraid of losing loot, you should never stack, and visa versa, if you stack, you should never be afraid of losing loot.

Kind of reminds me of those teenagers who tried to sue Microsoft when the 360 launched & the Live servers got flooded Christmas day, so they could not log in.

This does sound strangely applicable, not anywhere near as extreme clearly, but i do see similarities.

  • @robby0316 there is a warning that's there is going to be maintenance when you log in...

It's your own fault if you don't sell before it happens

I don’t particularly agree on server shutdown compensation but Rare needs to give us at least an hour notification that the servers are shutting down for unscheduled maintenance.

  • Don't stack.

    ...What?
    No, seriously; what?
'Rare needs to give advance warning of things they did not plan!' So you want them to see the future?

Gods, this is the same vibe as one of my managers at my old job; 'You need to give 1 weeks warning before you take sick time!' Sure, expect me to know before I get sick that I'm going to get sick.

'Unscheduled maintenance' means they were not aware, ahead of time, that they needed to do it.
And 15 minutes is enough time to sail and dump. It's not Rare's fault if players want to stack for hours.

    He was doing commodities

  • @sudsierboar5526
    *Shrug

And? It's an online multiplayer game. Anything can happen. Server disruptions, PVE content, sweaty grade-5 Reapers. Stacking is asking for trouble. I don't think it's necessary to stack to do commodities, just efficient, yes? So risk vs reward. You stack, you have the chance to lose it all.

  • Just... Dont... Stack!

  • I had to sleep.

Where's my compensation for the time I wasn't allowed to play?

I figure I'm owed at least 100m in gold, 50k in dubs and I'd say an easy 10k in ancient coins for all the time I've missed playing.

  • It was essential to fix the sword reg.

  • I haven't been on right before a shutdown to know what the warnings are like, but imo there should be a warning every 10 minutes from the 1 hour mark to shutdown.
So long as you're properly warned it's entirely on you for holding loot for too long.

You get a 15 minute warning. Then at 10 minutes it has a countdown on screen.

  • I got a 1-hour warning via Twitter. Don't you follow?

Gross, no. In game should be where any alert like this happens.

As much as people shouldnt be complaining about losing loot when stacking for hours due to server shut downs (or what ever other reason).
It is kinda stupid that these updates warnings go through social media for majority cases.

They have a warning message system ingame.
Instead of only sending out a message that the server shuts down in the next 15 minutes...
Why not also send a message the day before hand to everyone that the servers will be down the next day, instead of having to check social media?

I cant remember if they have a system like it atm, but they clearly have a system set up for it.

Because they don't always know a day beforehand.
That's why it's called 'unscheduled maintenance'.

I can't believe people are seriously saying Rare should somehow schedule UNSCHEDULED maintenance.

You clearly didnt understand what i ment.

They clearly do know a day beforehand otherwise they wouldnt post a day before hand on social media that the servers will be down the next day, for what ever patch they have decided to release or what ever fix the need to adress.

My point was, if they can make a post on their social media, then they can also do it ingame at the same time.
Next time read before you go full keyboard warrior.

    No need to over react.
This aint no flame fest or people being super angry.
You havent seen anything yet compared to people i encounter ingame and get sunk lol.

  • People will stop playing the game if they get screwed by it, just saying.

OP is entitled to what they achieved and it's Rare's job to prevent unexpected downtimes and disconnects.

No, he is not entitled to anything additional as they did not achieve it. They admittedly sold early and there was no guarantee he was going to be able to complete it for the full value turn-in either. An attack by a superior force could have wiped him out and he would have gotten nothing.
