A new PVP faction

    With the lack of PVP content since the arena was ended this could be a solution to reward players for PVPing. This would add a new Faction, along with using assets already in the game just recolouring or rewording.

    The Adventurers Sea Dogs
    A new PVP progression and Faction
    To level the new Faction, silver will be added like arena, meant to be cashed in at the end of a session to Adventurers Sea Dogs, so you’re not spammed with constant levelling up notifications

    New Progression
    75 levels
    0-5 White belt
    5-10 Yellow belt
    10-20 Orange belt
    20-30 Green belt
    30-40 Blue belt
    40-50 Purple belt
    50-60 Brown belt
    60-75 Black belt
    (Rather than having whole sets each rank up, having a change in belts adds something small but able to be added on to favourite outfits)

    New commendations
    These commendations are meant to mimic the original sea dogs, in which getting kills with each of the weapons will reward players with the next version, only able to buy the weapons, or cosmetics providing the level is reached along with commendation, so you’re given these items to start along with your white belt from talking to the leader of the faction, and you’ll have to wear/use these items and get kills to unlock next tier

    Players Killed
    Players Killed with Sword
    Players Killed with Flintlock
    Players Killed with Blunderbuss
    Players Killed with Eye of Reach
    Players Killed with Blunder Bombs
    Players Killed with Cannons
    Ships Sunk
    Cannons shots landed against other player ships
    Chain shots/ Mast destroyed
    Times other player ships caught on fire
    Green Curse balls landed against player ships
    Purple Curse balls Landed against player ships
    Kegs blew up on other player ships-
    All Belts earned
    Double gunner commendation- max out 2 guns
    Sword lord- Max out the sword
    All commendations
    Things able to unlock throughout Faction

    New recolored gold curse- Silver Curse when all commendations are earned
    New Sea dogs set, meant to recolour of current sea dogs set.
    White version from 0-40
    Black version from 40-70
    Purple and Silver (Meant to mimic the pirate legend colours)
    Full equipment and Weapon sets based on rank, upgrading as you go

    Possible problems and Fixes
    Spawn Camping- Add a 0.75 second of immunity off spawn
    Farming- Unable to earn against anyone in alliance with you

    @burnbacon Yes but it doesn't encourage PVP, it very rare reapers don't run and you can just go level it by doing pve

    Rare will never encourage or incentivize PvP more than they already have using loot, unless they add new combat mechanics (like with throwables and improved ship damage). They don't want you to actively go after every single pirate just to grind some stat.

    Any faction can kill Reapers or even each other, so entirely unnecessary.

    well the problem with reapers is that it's not rewarding to hunt them.
    an emissary that gives you a bonus for turning in reaper flags could make it worthwhile

    Oh, and back on the original suggestion, it would also incentivize attacking fresh spawns at outposts, which is a problem.

    I dont think this would work too well, mimicking the sea dogs in a way that takes longer and relies on hunting down players who might just still run... Arena already failed because of the low player count interested in it, and that was with all ships ready to battle right there, im not sure how well this would work out.

    That's not a Reaper issue; that's an individual pirate/crew issue.

    Thanks for the feedback everyone, I think the main point is the stuff everyone is concerned about like spawn camping, hunting new spawns etc.. already happens, I just want to feel like I'm being rewarded when I'm actively going out and looking for PVP, plus it would add something new to grind. At the end of the day, there are always fixes I just wish I had PVP milestones or items to grind for.

    Understandable, but it's not about the grind, and what you're asking for is missing the bigger picture because it can have a massively negative impact on how pirates treat other pirates. In affect, it would eliminate half of the game's social interactions - the positive side (talking to other crews, bargaining, making alliances, making friends...).

    The fact that it does already happen should not be an argument for incentivizing it even more.

    I'm all for PvP in a pvpve game, but finding the equilibrium is hard and errors can have a terrible and long lasting impact on the game.

    Since they reduced to 5 the number of ships per server the waters have been pretty quiet so I understand where you come from, but this is not the way.

    Since the reduction of total crews? The waves have been calmer long before that - since the introduction of the Devil's Roar, my dude! 😉

    I would actually like a PvP centric faction besides the Reapers. Reaper cosmetics are super edgy and look terrible. It's nigh embarassing to fly a Reaper flag around the seas. Would love a more cheerful and less angsty teenager faction where you can hand in emissary flags and all loot. There's many options for a theme and lore, and they could have a bit of PvE mixed in too with their own voyage or two.

    To add to this, handing in Reaper flags as this new faction and vice versa would give you a big gold/rep bonus. This would create a good incentive for the two PvP factions to prioritize going after eachother, besides both being visible on the map. Lore wise they'd ofcourse be at war with eachother for various reasons.

    @hefty-henri That's what supposed to be the lore between Reapers and the Athena's fortune. But that doesn't translate much in game.

    To encourage pvp with like minded pvp players, I decided silver could only be earned while engaging in combat with other sea dogs. Fighting and sinking anyone that isn't a sea dog will do nothing to benefit a sea dog.

    Not giving the ability to turn in treasure to the sea dogs, with the exception of the sea dog chest, makes sure the faction can't be leveled by anything other than actual pvp.

    Locking ships out of alliances while being a sea dog helps prevent workarounds.

    I like the idea of an opt in pvp experience that doesn't encourage grieving players that aren't interested in it. I hope they can give us something to reliably find competitors in a healthy environment. Sea dogs just seems like a natural fit. I guess if they want to do something like this, it's just a matter of working out all the details so we don't end up with a faction that's ultimately used for something that was never intended.

    The fact is that you can't actually know. All you actually know is whether or not you got outplayed. If you did, then you need to either ask yourself what you could have done differently, or better, as well as finding out what it was that they did that worked out so well for them.

    And not everyone just sells, lowers, and hops when they show up. I should know - I relish the challenge! The only time I run is to jockey for for a better position. Don't use blanket statements that can easily be proven false.

    the only two problems is even more statistics for sea of thieves to keep track of and of cours alliance servers but other than that I stand by it great idea my friend

    As you've clearly forgotten, I'm here to advocate for an emissary that specifically hunts reapers.

    Dark Souls already has a similar food chain. Reds hunt PVE players, blues get matchmaked to go hunt reds, for which they get unique rewards.
    Reds who kill blues get double the reward they would from killing a PVE player.
    PVE players don't get punished for not being sweaty because blues can do that for them.

    Dark Souls already has a similar food chain.

    Dark Souls isn't an online open-world, shared high-risk/high-reward first-person PvPvE sandbox upon the Sea.

    And by doing so u are pushing many out, alot like to play without the constant pop. Now u have ensured unimstalling the game for many. New players will start see no point and stop. I introduced 4 people to this game this week and they all quit

    Why not have something useful, like putting in patrol ships? Have them hunt down pirates based on how infamous they are. Like u have skelli ships right? So why not have them pop up and target players who are constantly pop people? New players or returning players have not much of a chance if any. So are stopping. This will balance it more. Have the patrol ships Carry big rewards too. Sink to many player ships u are being hunted now.

    This wouldn't work. You'd need to actively track crews which are sinking player ships, and even then, you don't need to be the ones to sink a player ship. You can lure them to Fleet events, or hijack their ship and force them to run aground, without ever touching the cannons. Or you can spawncamp and refuse to sink them.

    Yeah that's true. I was thinking trade route patrols then maybe. A safer place for new players to learn mechanics better than starter voyage map.

    No need for complicated new mechanics and other things that are really not that necessary. Instead change a few rules in the game to incentivize PvP that is actually worth the effort.

    Few changes that would very well benefit everyone doing PvP:

    • Reaper emissary flags can be turned in at any Trading Companies, except Hunter's Call for a substantial reputation gain.
    • Any other emissary flags can only be turned in at the Reaper's Hideout, as usual.
    • Non-emissary ships sinking emissary ships do not get the increased gold and rep benefit. You have to be an emissary to get it.
    • Change the value of the flags to make them worth the effort: Grade 1 = 10,000 | Grade 2 = 20,000 | Grade 3 = 30,000... and so on.
    • Don't change the gold and reputation value if it's a non-Reaper emissary sinking another non-Reaper emissary ship.
    • With each Grade on your own flag, 1000 gold is added to the flag's value you pick up, e.g.: Grade 3 GH sinks a Grade 3 RB emissary, flag's worth 33k gold and vice-versa.
    • Grabbing a Reaper emissary gives you the same amount of emissary grade boost as what the Reapers receive grabbing any other emissary flags.

    Flags now worth a lot of money and rep and people have a reason to try and hunt Reapers and vice-versa. Current gold and rep reward is just not worth the resources and time spent on another player ship to actually fight them. Plus we should be able to turn in a Reaper emissary flag at any other trading companies to signify that we fight the rebellious pirates to keep the flow of gold going into the right hands... Ramsey Singh.

    In my opinion, these changes would incentivize PvP, because the winning side is paid generously for the effort and time spent on hunting down an enemy ship.
