How do all of you feel about the fact that the ship renaming and the best ship name tag customizations are being monetized?
Personally I feel the captaincy update makes ship naming and name tags feel like a pay wall. It adds to the issue that the devs are choosing to monetize cosmetic additions that have been asked for since near the conceptualization of the game.
Perhaps the idea that just because one requests something, doesn't mean the devs should not monetize that item might hold some weight if not for the fact that the game revolves around collecting cosmetic rewards. In a game, where cosmetics is the core focus, having name tags being monetized, removes some of the cosmetic possibilities for the ship, in an otherwise lacking variety of ship cosmetics. The same can be said for the ship names, in which even after you buy the ship, you are not allowed to change the name of said ship unless one pays real money, locking away the ship renaming feature of the captaincy update behind a pay wall. As an example, a player who after buying and naming a ship finds out that the first title they unlock for it, does not tie in well with the ship name.
Finally, although the captaincy feature added lots of great customization options for ships, most of the options added can be summarized down to trinkets. Nothing about the captaincy feature actually makes any of the ships truly stand out from one another. The cosmetics for the bed or captains chair aren't that different from one another. The Athena/ legendary captain chair just looks like a more worn out or used up chair. Idk, maybe you all have a different take on this that you might share, but I feel like more could have been done to make each theme stand out.
Some things that have been requested before is to allow customization of masts, railings, deck floors/roofs, inner hull walls, barrels, lantern types and even harpoon guns.
With the captaincy update, I also suggest the addition of further trinkets for inner deck roofs, with the ability to hang not only chains from them, but sea weed, bone talismans, vines, Christmas lights, fishing trawls/nets, banners, barnacles, and other items.
