Outposts and surrounding calm waters should be PVE (if anchored)

  • I know this is probably me being a poor sport but it's getting kind of ridiculous that you can't even log in and get your boat ready without being sunk like they just took you out after an hour battle. That or seriously have been at port doing business and you get sunk and lose your haul because "it's part of the game"
I guess because I would never do this, It boggles my mind that people are this petty.
Even a 5 min immunity when you first log in or when you return you are immune after a min or so to stop people from using it as a getaway safe space. I understand the game and I am trying so hard not to sound like a crybaby. am I crazy?

  • This is never going to happen.

  • Its really just part of the game. There are trolls who sink new ships, tall talers, etc. Everyone has their own moral code when sailing. If someone sinks your new spawn, at least you have nothing to lose. You are free to hop to (potentially) calmer waters. Some outposts are even used for tucking. I know if a FotD is up and I see a boat that looks like a fresh spawn at plunder or ancient spire, Im sinking it before I go try to engage. Tools not rules, and this gameplay choice would enforce more rules.

  • games are full of surprises
get used to it and your enemies will be the one writing ones this forum

  • This has been discussed over the years. Safe zones or PvE zones around outposts are not going to happen. They introduce a lot of new issues and they also go against a core aspect of SoT. Think about it. Why do you think they force you to turn in loot at a handful of locations rather than just rewarding you with gold when you dig up a chest? Really consider how much trouble they went through to funnel us to outposts before rewarding us. “Only gold hoarders have the special keys needed to open chests.” “Only OOS practitioners know how to harvest the memories from skulls.” The perceived issue you are trying to fix with a PvE zone would completely undermine Rare’s hard work to make outposts what they are. Outposts are one set of player funnels within the game to increase chances of interactions between crews.

If you just logged in then you had nothing to lose when they sank you. Spawn on your new boat and get back to business. You do not own the outpost just because you spawned there. The game tries to spawn you at an outpost far away from other crews so you have time to get the boat ready. It is not always successful, but it often does a good job of it. But you need to check the horizon, get your business done, and get on your way.

  • @whiteboytattood If you just spawned in and it gets heated super quickly, just pop to a new server. Nothing is stopping you.

  • Guess I can’t steal that stacked FoTD then because they anchored 🤷‍♂️

  • If you just spawned in what are you actually losing that its so absolutely game-breaking to be sunk? Or are you talking about when you're selling? Because if you're selling that's completely fair play, and it's really just kinda a "get better" thing

  • No safe zones

  • Goes against the spirit of the game.

You can choose to sell at various locations. Just running into port so you are protected would never work in this game.

You could always get a rowboat park your ship somewhere and then go to an outpost to sell?

This game has a lot of tools at your disposal, use them instead of trying to make it easier.

You could also try hiding in a server alliance which is allowed.

  • @dank-jimb0 Agreed. Outposts should forever be fair game.

  • @whiteboytattood it’s bad luck if you spawn in and get sunk right away and many crews don’t really pay attention to how the ship is at a dock to know if it’s a fresh spawn of someone turning in loot they can steal

  • Functionally it IS part of the game, but if some one sails up on you while your parked, thats not on them, and its not on rare for wanting you to be in danger at any given time, the only person it is on, is the person who wasnt watching their surroundings.

It can be hard to keep an eye on the horizon when your not used to it, but with time it becomes impossible to get snuck up on by an entire ship.

  • Here is what you need to do in order"

    Spawn in,
    Raise your anchor,
    Check for reapers,
    Raise emissary,
    Buy storage crate,
    Raid Island.
    Leave Island

Takes less than 2-4 minutes and I have never been sunk doing this because SOT will spawn you in an unpopulated area. Longer than this, there is a chance someone will come near and sink you.

  • Honestly... what's the point of that?
If you're freshly spawned, why do you even care if somebody sinks you? It's just a waste of their cannon balls, so it's their loss, not yours.
If you're being sunk while selling... well, that's part of the game and should stay.

Your suggested feature actually just introduces new and far bigger issues.
Having a lot of loot and getting chased by another ship? Just get to any outpost and anchor and keep spamming Rolls on deck laughing.
This would be horribly abused if you think about it.
