Briging players creates a toxic environment. Why no vote kick?

  • There are a few instances in which people are thrown in the brig.

-We are goofing around and having a laugh
-Player is stuck and we are trying to "fix" them
-Player is being dumb or trolling the crew and we want them off our ship so we throw them in the brig in hopes they will leave.

The problem with using the brig to punish a bad actor is that you have added things to the game since launch that people in the brig can do to troll their crew. They can set our boats on fire with fire bombs for example. While that would have a limited inventory to do so its still an annoyance. If you are trying to do cargo runs and have water in your ship to keep plants wet they can also bucket up your water so the plants would wilt. If they refuse to leave the only option we are left with is to kill them with blunder bombs and such over and over again in hopes that they will get tired of loading to and from the ferry. But then this is toxic behavior on the crews part not the troll in the brig. So the person in the brig who is the actual toxic troll player can then report his crew mates for killing him over and over because he refuses to leave and RARE didn't give us the option to "Make character walk the plank" aka Vote kick him off our ship.

I don't understand how you let bad actors report players for using the brig feature you added to your game because you don't give us an option to vote kick. I get that being kicked off a boat could create a negative experience for that player but if the player is a troll that's their problem and they should maybe reflect on why they keep getting the boot. Basically I avoid open crew so I never have to deal with these cases but Having heard from people who were banned due to a troll in the brig who refused to leave.... What the heck is this? Its almost like the brig only exists for role playing not intended as something to be used to deal with bad actors.

In the same way you have a timer on being able to let someone out of the brig how about another timer at double the length where we can make the person walk the plank and kick them off the boat. That would give them time to maybe talk their way out of the brig but if the crew chooses they could force the person out of their session.

  • Giving players power to restrict server access only amplifies the imperfections of the power of majority

We don't have a perfect system but we are using the one that causes the least amount of damage to the environment.

Sell and abandon the ego battle by finding a new server with opportunity for a more positive experience.

  • @magus104 simply put it would be abused and misused

  • It would be nice, but majority power would be evil.

Suppose some guy puts up an LFG for his Gilded Athena or for help sinking a triple stacked FotD galleon.

You and your friend join his brig and get the loot, then at the outpost you kick him off and invite your friend.

It's easily abused. The brig thing at least doesn't throw them out completely.

If youre on a galleon, you can fill up the bottom layer of the ship and drown anyone in the brig...I've done that to my friends a few time and it's always funny lol

  • Yeah if they're being that problematic just leave the game man.

You can literally do your session on another server with different people and get the same loot you earned back instead of trying to deal with such a person in the first place.

  • @magus104 The problem caused by "kicking" a player out of the game would be more egregious as that means you are denying the right of a gamer to play SOT. Try to put yourself on the position of the brigged person before jumping to conclusions.

  • @magus104 said in Briging players creates a toxic environment. Why no vote kick?:

-Player is being dumb or trolling the crew and we want them off our ship so we throw them in the brig in hopes they will leave.

I think I see your issue. You think it is your ship. It is not. It belongs to each person in the crew. That includes the player you don’t want there. Sell your loot and leave the ship to find another one. You can create a closed crew.
