Supplies Float Up

  • With the massive influx in supplies in the game since Sea Forts and the increase in posts discussing spawn camping can we just have supplies float up please after a ship is sunk. Supplies can be bought and sold for gold so they have value, and so are essentially loot.

PVE focused players will no longer have to be sunk slowly to ensure that all supplies are taken from their ships, while PVP focused players can now focus on sinking other ships and not have to think if they made sure to get all their chain shots and curses. A change like this really won't change server hopping/portal hopping frequency but just make the game overall more enjoyable for everyone!

  • Edit: Thought retracted so as not turn on a lightbulb for anyone lol

  • @sweetsandman wait this is currently in the game... Don't think you thought this through...

Load in, crate ship, scuttle ship, bury storage crate, return to original spawn... Not sure if this is ever worth doing tbh not sure how supplies floating up changes this either...

  • @nitroxien Mother of God what have I done.

    I retract my previous thought.

    I now 100% support your idea 😜

  • Supplies are far too abundant to be considered of any real value. If they were, the game economy would instantly break. Watching all of those supplies float up each time a ship is sunk, and then linger for a time could also spell death for the server itself.

  • I would like it if a sunk ships supplies floated up like barrels of plenty.

Currently the only way to 100% loot a boat is spawnkilling, that opens up a whole new room of whining
issues of people who refuse to scuttle.

And even then, a storage crate takes ages to fill up with the 'take' mechanic.

Also if I'm PvPing, I should be able to be self sufficient through PvP and not have to explore PvE places. If the same ship attacks me over and over, let me use their resources from previous attempts.

Or if I'm in a three-way fight, let me pickup supplies on my harpoon from downed ships

  • @galactic-geek were talking just a few barrels here not the individual supplies... not sure if 5 barrels floating up will kill a server tbh seems extreme to think that...

Still, that would overtly tip the scales in favor of PvP even further. That might not seem like much, but right now the only (real) reason to attack someone is for their loot, which they may not always have. Supplies though? Always available. Even worse, this will incentivize crews to not gather supplies, and just go with the bare minimum, which is, suffice to say, simply less fun.

Sure, even now they can attack you for your supplies, but they have to keep your ship floating to get them - and that means you still have an opportunity to take your ship back.

  • I think to build up on Galactic's point: If supplies were allowed to float up from sunken ships, do you realize how easy it would be to just be always prepared for battle, even against several revenging and avenging crews?

Who needs to go buy supplies or rush to an island for a couple more cannonballs and wood when all I gotta do is outskill a crew with my sword and guns about 20 times before their absolutely casual and unskilled sailor shorts leave the game and end the fight faster and in a more disappointing way?

Literally spawncampers just have to sit on someone's boat and kill them over and over again to make them leave, and then their supplies are now the enemy's who didn't even have to fire more than 1 cannonball at them. Which also make fresh spawns even more target-able because at the very least their sunken remains will reward you with a ship's full default loadout very easily.

    No. Just, no.

    plus @galactic-geek

do you realize how easy it would be to just be always prepared for battle, even against several revenging and avenging crews?

Ships spawn with enough supplies, so they're already prepared for battle, with the feature or not.

Who needs to go buy supplies or rush to an island for a couple more cannonballs and wood

With this feature implemented, people that believe spawn supplies aren't enough, would still have to find some around the world to prepare for an encounter. Supply gathering would still be part of the core gameplay.

"Buying Supplies" are for people who don't have time to collect them, feel it's pointless to collect them, or just don't mind spending gold.

This feature would also work as a reward for defending and winning a battle.
Because of it, the enemies you've defended against know that you have an upper hand with their supplies, making them gather more & giving you time, or they leave & let you continue your voyage.
It would be useful for both attackers & defenders, and could also make "infinite battles" less common.

Literally spawncampers just have to sit on someone's boat and kill them over and over again to make them leave, and then their supplies are now the enemy's who didn't even have to fire more than 1 cannonball at them.

People are doing it right now to fill up storage crates.
It makes sense having this feature, because it would most likely decrease spawn camping a lot, by letting the ship fully sink and gather the supplies after.

    Happy sailing!

  • No.
Go gather your supplies like the rest of us. Spawncamping will continue.
Floating all the supplies would kill the server, so random amounts show up instead. Still gonna spawncamp so I can get everything, right?

Unless scuttling denies supplies still. Which I'm sure won't be allowed in your pvp centered idea...

  • @galactic-geek hmm yeah no... we go for any ship to take their chain shots if we are doing PVE.

Its definitely miserable for them for us to have to swim a crate over and crate them no matter what loot or no loot they have. All ships are a threat does not matter if they have loot or not if they have a ship and I see them near my fort they will be siphoned and sunk. I try to tell my crew to do it fast so they don't feel like they are being spawn camped but at times its hard especially against more decent ships.

  • @pithyrumble with this spawn camping is actually easier to call out... Now its a huge are of grey. Siphoning supplies with no crate can take a while and even with a crate can take a decent amount of time especially vs a gally.

Just leads to unfun gameplay for everyone. If supplies floated up at the end bucketing and repairing a ship is probably toxic.

Good... this will help with all the posts complaining about people returning for the 7th time...

Who needs to go buy supplies or rush to an island for a couple more cannonballs and wood when all I gotta do is outskill a crew with my sword and guns about 20 times before their absolutely casual and unskilled sailor shorts leave the game and end the fight faster and in a more disappointing way?

Wait I'm confused you want long drawn out 1 sided hand to hand fights? This is the opposite sentiment that players want which is to not be camped and just sunk.

Umm... this already happens... All it means now is sinking the ship quickly is better than keeping players in long drawn out one sided fights for their supplies... Also fresh spawns are already targeted for supplies... Nothing new.

All this change does is makes spawn camping a more black and white and increases the enjoyability for everyone. People who are getting siphoned are not stuck in a miserable time forced to scuttle as the other ship takes all their supplies, while the ship siphoning can actually focus on playing the game and sinking the enemy ship.

  • The way I've always dealt with it is I usually offer the crew I'm stealing from parley in the form of if they don't fight back my crew and I will just take their supplies and not kill them. But if they fight back all is fair.

  • This is a great idea. It would probably look like the pieces of debris from the lost cargo missions the merchants offer.

  • @nitroxien

    While not toxic!
It would encourage supply camping, (which is ok by me anyways) I'm going to clear out all your barrels before you sink to make sure I get the best stuff...

  • 2 to 6 barrels of a random subset of the total supplies would be fair. This would be 10% of the food, max 30 bits, 10% of the wood max 25 and 10% of the cannon, chain and throwbles etc, max 75. Add in a few gulls as well.

The pro for this is that the winner from a soley naval battle will get to resupply a little but not make it too much for the revenge boat.

  • @pithyrumble but it all floats up... no need to supply camp anymore.

  • @miserenz this would not change crews wanting to siphon other crews though. Point of this is to get rid of that behavior and let crews focus purely on PVP and not camping to siphon supplies.

  • @nitroxien
If your getting camped you can always vote to sink. Personally, unless I did before I can even move due to ping (gaming potatoe and I live far from the servers) go fight. Worth learning from every encounter.

  • @nitroxien

    We all float down here...

    If everything floats, server issues.

    If random floats, spawncamp issues.

There have been statements that aggression shouldn't always be rewarded. The suggestion never gets far either which way. I used to think the barrels of plenty were sunken ships.

Maybe if the player scuttles you get random floats. 🤔

  • @pithyrumble wait why server issues if a few full barrels float up... they are adding massive tornados and shipwreck graveyards I think we can handle a few stacked barrels...
