i mainly play reaper, but, all the time i stayed stuck in the same server, because the portal hop with pirate life wont work, like 70% of the time i got stuck in the loading screen of the talltale and return to a random island or outpost, can we have a vote option, where the crew can server hop?, being reaper 5, sink everyone and right after, no emmisaries after 1 hour or 2 it is aweful, sometimes im stuck there with no emmisaries for a long time, and no server merge what so ever, please RARE, pvp players want to server hop, since there is a low ammount of ships that we can attack.
A proper server hop for pvp players
Server hopping is an opportunity not an entitlement
We really only have it because the pros greatly outweigh the cons outside of pvp and it would be detrimental to activity and general view of the environment without it.
I think a cleaned up version of portal hopping is the future but only for balancing it out not improving the odds for people looking to hop and sink people.
@el-spaniardchi that is what i have been doing for a long time, server hop, try to find reapers, sink them and start all over, but, reaper 5 at some point if you like to pvp, it is worthless, after you whiped a server, start all over, but with the other emmisaries, they can stay in the same servers for hours without lowering the flag, i have encounters with gold hoarders, order of souls or even merchants, with tons of supplies, why i cant leave a server and join another one keeping my flag and rss, the name of the game is sea of thieves, being a reaper means, looking for battle, you appear on the map, everyone can see you, so my suggestion it is have a proper way to server hop, maybe you are able to join another session with less supplies, no with 200 chainshots, or 2000 cannonballs, we should have that option
I agree. A hop system would be so helpful for the biggest mess of a faction in the game.
Seriously Reapers are so poorly designed.
For everyone who wants to start whining about how a portal hoppers killed them, READ THIS:
Reapers are the PvP faction. End of. I know they will buy anything, whih makes PvE more enticing, but the highest payouts come from Emissary flags. Pair that with the ability to see them on the map shows that PvP is clearly the intention.
Now in any other faction, you do faction activities and get Grade V where you can do an Emissary Quest. Upon completion, you can keep doing faction activities, like X mark the spot maps to keep getting faction loot. Theoretically going forever.
Reapers on the other hand are broken for what they were designed to do. A Reaper "emissary quest" is hunting down the other emissaries. But if an Emissary is planning on doing some grinding, a Reaper in the server will cause them to swap servers. An by the time a Reaper hits 5, all the Emissaries have sold loot and left. This means Reapers cant play indefinitely and are left with no option but to either PvE (not intended for this faction) or restart (which no other faction needs to do).
END OF JUSTIFICATION FOR PORTAL HOPPING
Now my ideas for a good Portal Hop system. All loot gets left behind (as is currently). This emissaries using them to "run away" as this would negate the risk of using a flag in the first place.
But where do these portals exist? By speaking to a company representative at Grade V, you can ask to be relocated. This opens and portal and lets you server hop without the boring dialogue we sit through currently.
Making movement between servers easier would be beneficial to everyone. At Grade V, OoS, AF, GH or MA emissaries can choose to move to safer waters.
This means that Reapers will be given new prey and emissries can continue grinding.
HOWEVER, now, when moving, you are placed in a server with a more emissaries. This means that a Grade V GH will generally end up with a Reaper (any level). And a Reaper V will be faced with a server of other company emissaries.
This increases traffic between servers is beneficial as it means people won't be trapped in a dead server at Grade V and people who remain will always be getting new people to fight.
Now obviously this idea probably will never be implemented because I'm just some random guy on a forum, BUT I would like to know if anyone thinks a system like this could be any good?
Because currently emissries are a joke. It is literally easy mode for levels and they carry no threat, due to how easy it is to lower and raise flags.
If a big idea like the one above can't be done, I'd like to suggest 3 alternatives:
-
You cant see Reapers on the map unless you are a Grade V. This means people won't leave if a Reaper is present.
-
Charge 20,000 gold everytime you raise the flag (possibly even more). This puts a but more weight on them as sinking without making a profit would make people seriously consider whether they want to just quit at the sight of a Reaper.
-
Remove Red Seaing, yes I know there was a whole thread of people defending this "playstyle" but a TRUE Reapers life is hard enough already without toxic people deleting loot.
Thank you for reading this, if you actaully read this far :)

@wolfmanbush well, remember that we server merge sometimes with lvl 5 reapers all of a sudden next to us, or some other emmisaries, so, after we server hop, we can leave that empty server for the pve players, so they can chill there and we can keep searching for battles and steals, because after sink a big emmisary, there is no point to attack them again, we already know that they are not good at pvp and they have no treassure besides the flag, if they raise one

Still not a PvP faction! High risk, high reward faction. The title of PvP faction belonged to Arena

In the name of QoL they have made the life of a server hopper beyond convenient
massive food and massive fire power in a very short amount of time. There already is little server investment for a majority of the mid to high level pvp in adventure, requiring less and less investment in the server isn't helping this game it's slowing down the activity (related to appealing targets) which has lead to the issue that you came here to with.
@el-spaniardchi well, there is no Arena anymore, and i agree with @wolfmanbush Reapers are the pvp faction, whithout arena, all hte pvp players ended up becoming reapers, because we dont care about pve, we need more options, we have a lack of options right now
@epiclildude9408 As someone that loves PvP, sails Reaper, and hunts emissaries nearly every session...this entitled mentality that some players have is why emissaried portal hopping needs to be eliminated.
Today, my crewmate and I scienced it because there was an Athena on the server I spawned in on...it took us about 35 minutes going from Sea Fort to Sea Fort to get to Grade 5 and have an incredible amount of supplies. At that point, we hunted the Athena and the rest is history.
The only things faster to get you to Grade 5 are/were sinking a ship with a decent amount of loot, or Flameheart.
There's no excuse for emissaried portal hopping anymore with how fast you can get to Grade 5 in any faction other than players feeling entitled. You take the risk, you shouldn't be allowed to pick a new server and keep the rewards without taking the risk all over again.
@sweetsandman but that is the whole point to portal hop, imagine, raise emissary 5 by doing pve, sometimes by the time you reach emissary 5, the server that you hop on with 1 or more emmisaries, they are gone, sometimes they see a reaper and go sell and lower the flag, you reach emmisary 5 and the server is empty, you want pvp and you ended up doing pve only, you quit that session and start all over, raising lvl 5 again by doing what? pve again, i know that i can get lvl 5 faster and get rss faster, but the whole point of being a pvp player is avoid pve and focus in pvp only, steal world events from others, the name of the game is sea of thieves
@epiclildude9408 I don't disagree that the calculated risk by the other factions is WAY too easy.
IMO, the elimination of emissaried portal hopping needs to be accompanied by changes that make ALL forms of server hopping less rewarding. It would appropriately increase the risk that's supposed to be associated to running an Emissary. It's way too easy for players to choose the "safest" server today.
Here's my idea. I've suggested it before so I'll just copy/paste it:
-1) Get rid of the little ships on the Reaper emissary table at the outposts.
-2) Crews can only see a Reaper on their map if they are running an Emissary of any kind and are Grade 2 or higher. The logic here is that crews would be invested enough in a server that they'd at least consider continuing with their risk even if they end up seeing a Reaper on their map after they've hit Grade 2. Sure, some people would still immediately sell, lower, and abandon the server, but those are the folks that aren't going to fight anyways. At least with this, their rewards/time would be impacted accordingly.
-3) Reapers can only see ships on their map that are Grade 2 or higher. The logic here is to complement the above rule so that you don't have a tactical advantage on Grade 1 emissaries.
-4) Reapers can only see other Reapers once they've achieved Grade 2 or higher.@sweetsandman i agree with your suggestion, but maybe instead of lvl 2, should be 3 or 4, lvl 2 sometimes it is just a fresh spawn that bought rss at the outpost and found a single treasure, but your suggestion makes sense
@pithyrumble the thing that i have been doing is that instead of using the normal way, by using a checkpoint, start a new one on an outpost, numer 1 or 3 of pirate life, and works better for me, so far, the checkpoints are not working for a long time now, at least 1 or 2 months, it is a gamble
@sweetsandman yeah, by doing that, its gonna be fair to all factions, with a little bit of work of course, but they should try it and implemented that option in to the game, would be cool

Try finishing the tale again, then getting a new checkpoint maybe?
I think it boils down to this.
Reapers are suppose to hunt emissaries.
Emissaries are suppose to have an opportunity to escape the server if a reaper joins the server
Problem: Everybody uses this opportunity.
Emissaries seem to have worked when it arrived, but then this seems to have happened:
Veterans complete everything due to lack of difficult content and progression. This results in more need for pvp and only need for gold that creates an overflow of reapers and lack of veteran emissaries.
Other players chose to go low instead of "gitgud" because they cant see the profit of getting better at fighting.
This completely cursed the pool of emissaries and made it more risky than before.
I think rare expected everyone to use emissaries so if people wanted to fish, do tall tales, rp, or simply avoid conflict when new to the game, it would be more possible because the tension would be channeled elsewhere. A way to tell who is actually looting.
I dont think Rare knows how much they really need difficult content. I believe rare doesnt want to make content that certain players cant overcome because its gonna give veterans a prestige that makes others look small, but the truth imo is that it will put veterans partly in a different position where they arent in the way of newer players. Players wont quit when content is difficult, Elden ring is living proof. Needs to be high lvl to unlock content though. Hardmode isnt the best experience if its your first.
This is my thoughts though.
Might seem of topic, but i think server hopping by portals is like a shortcut solution to give reapers a chance to get emissaries when in reality there should be more of them.
Phew, long post. 1/10 is gonna read this.
@scurvywoof im just gonna copy and paste the same thing all over, because it is the same answer..... but that is the whole point to portal hop, imagine, raise emissary 5 by doing pve, sometimes by the time you reach emissary 5, the server that you hop on with 1 or more emmisaries, they are gone, sometimes they see a reaper and go sell and lower the flag, you reach emmisary 5 and the server is empty, you want pvp and you ended up doing pve only, you quit that session and start all over, raising lvl 5 again by doing what? pve again, i know that i can get lvl 5 faster and get rss faster, but the whole point of being a pvp player is avoid pve and focus in pvp only, steal world events from others, the name of the game is sea of thieves
Dude no use when the reapers will only run against wind. Any emissary i have seen has been running nonstop. Nerf running.
Portal hopping works, i did it 3 times to be in a server with a reaper doing fotd, destroyed them and they were very toxic, they also ddosed my friend. I reported through game bar on pc.
I mean, i agree there should be a way to hop servers, only 2 ways to do with supplies and emissaries. Portal hopping, which you all seem to know of, and server merging. I do not how to merge however, it happens randomly. Please tell useful info about server merging.
ThanksEh I dont remember the last time I portal hopped. I've never really found it to be necessary.
The game is named Sea of Thieves, yes, because that's where it takes place. A mythical section of ocean called the sea of thieves. The game it self is a pvpve game. You have stated that you want to ignore the pve part and only do pvp. That's great, you can totally do that, but you cant expect the makers of that game to implement systems that enable players to just skip half of the game they work on. Thats not how people work. The tools not rules philosophy that rare applies means you arent forced to do anything, not that everyone's specific choices should be catered too. Can you play the game only doing pvp?Yes. Will it be a more difficult experience because you are voluntarily locking your self off from half the game's content? also yes. This applies to any choices a player makes.
To take it to the extreme case, let's say I'm a snake basket player. I have chosen to only use trapped snakes as a weapon. But I cant sink any ships or do ghost fleets because snakes cant cause damage to ships. I think this is really unfair and rare should add ship damage from snakes for snake basket players.
Basically, there arent pve players and their arent pvp players. There are only sea of thieves players who have made the choice to limit the parts of the game they engage with or how they engage with them. Tools not rules means players are free to do that, not that their choices will be specifically catered to.
I will tell you right now, there are tons of PvE only players who have 100000s of tools to help them play that way.
Red Seaing is a thing. And if there were primarily PvX players then this wouldn't be an issue.

You’re mistake if you JUST PvP. That’s not fun, mix it up.
Anyway, portal hopping was never intended and Rare has always been closely monitoring it. Don’t expect it to be made better.@ottyman8687 said in A proper server hop for pvp players:

If you are finding that to be the case, I would work on your sailing and strategies for approaching player ships. People dont owe you a fight. If you want somthing on their ship, by all means, take it. But the onus is on you to make it happen.
The issue he's getting is that for a PvP Faction, or if you try to do a mixture, the only way to level up is PvE only.
@ottyman8687 said in A proper server hop for pvp players:
- You cant see Reapers on the map unless you are a Grade V. This means people won't leave if a Reaper is present.
This could work but huge problem is that it negates possibility to take down reapers before they reach 5 and become a public menace. Reapers wouldn't be high risk high reward anymore, actually they would be lowest risk emissary with that change. You get to see everyone else G1-5 but become visible as G5 yourself. I support idea of making reapers game a bit easier but not this much.
- Charge 20,000 gold everytime you raise the flag (possibly even more). This puts a but more weight on them as sinking without making a profit would make people seriously consider whether they want to just quit at the sight of a Reaper.
Most likely this would just reduce the amount of emissaries in general.

Removing the only mechanic in game to deny loot from hunters is not good option. It takes a lot of time to reach the red sea, if you cant catch someone in that time maybe just give up and try less experienced prey.

I had posted something similar a while ago, but only for Reapers.
At G5, when there are no emissaries on your server (anymore), you would get a window of opportunity to buy your way to another server, drop 1 level but are guaranteed to have at least one emissary on that server.
Current TT Portals need to be adjusted (i.e. no flag comes with)The
restart (which no other faction needs to do)
I don't agree with, as when I fly another emissary I reset it all the time - sailing with GH5 is painting a large target on your sails and you only want it when handing loot in. So get to G5, turn in, get quest, drop and raise flag, do the easy emissary quests , turn in &c.
Reapers should be visible though, the charging gold every time you raise a flag is something I need to ponder over and agree 100% with removing the unintended Red Sea loot despawning loot cheese.
