Solo Sloop Only Servers

  • With the discussions on and after the podcast from last week around the solo sloop experience what are everyone's thoughts on a solos only server option? Pro's, con's, general opinions. Just looking to start up a discussion.

  • There isn't anything to discuss - it won't be happening.

  • The developers talked about this recently in an official podcast, follow the link:

    Shrugs

sure, not like we're all on one massive server anyway.

i see no issues with splitting the playerbase, i rarely see anyone anyway.

I personally wouldn't use it very often, but i like options.

    It fair idea.
But I don’t like it. Then I’ll always know it’s one player on a sloop. Battles would be 50/50
Or if the solo sloop player is just gonna board all the time and not give me actual ship combat.

Sure I’ll join a solo sloop only server. But after awhile, I’ll be back to the normal.
It be like arena for me, played it a few rounds, didn’t like it and never went back.

(Would kind of be like day one. Many players did sloops for majority of the time until they found crew of friends)

  • @anoblepirate I would think if ever they would consider doing this, I would think they would use a different smaller ship. From what was said in the podcast they rather players group up so I do not see this any time if at all.

  • Solo sloopers don't need protection.

  • As a mainly solo slooper, I'm torn on this, to be honest.

Not sure it's really necessary for a lot of us but, thinking about new players and how they're thrown in as sheep among wolves, it could help them. On the other hand, it encourages a playstyle that was never really intended (though you could argue the Maiden Voyage and on-boarding already does that to a degree).

I'd be concerned that super-skilled solo players would dominate these servers though and anyone who ventured into the mixed Adventure servers to avoid them would meet toxicity from players telling them to go back to solo servers.

Certainly a better idea than sloop-only servers, in my opinion, but still not ideal.

  • I would never use them.

You'd be denying yourself the chance of getting a crew-mate while doing your voyages solo.

  • Sounds ideal but they would probably be full of people expecting a more PvE experience and then moaning about getting destroyed by Beardageddonesque levels of solo virtuosity.
Cheating and hacking tickets would go through the roof.
You would die a lonely death with no friends.
    It's a slippery slope...

  • After arena..

They aren't about to start making different modes yet again.

They never wanted to to begin with.

  • The game wasn't designed for solo slooping. The problem is, and this is the real problem, the game also doesn't do enough to encourage people to play together, so they don't. Figure that out, and you'd find the crying about the solo sloop experience would disappear rather quickly.

  • I am against it completely, speaking as a primarily solo sloop player. If this was implemented and was non-optional I'd probably be done playing SoT except for when I happen to have a crew (so I would drop as a every couple day player to around a couple times per year player). If it was optional I would never use it, even though it would probably have a very bad knock on effect to the normal servers (far worse than the Xbox split option).

As such, I would much rather development time be spent on other things. That is personal preference of course.
