@tntiseverywere you had years. choosing to not play arena was your choice. If you can not finish in the 6 weeks they gave you, thats not their fault.
It's entirely Rare's fault. It takes over 200 hours to finish the Triumphant Sea Dog commendation. 130 to 150 hours to reach Rank 50, then a bare minimum 200 games (67 hours) to finish Sea Dog Sailor. Then a couple hundred weapon kills to finish up after that depending what role you played on your crew. Absolute bare minimum 210 hours, and much more likely to be around 250 because lobbies are sweatier than ever.
It's technically possible to do it from zero in 6 weeks if you're unemployed and living with your parents, I guess.
Personally, I've been playing Arena steadily since I picked up the game last year. I hit Rank 50 in October and I was literally 45/100 Sea Dog Captain, counting down the days until I finished. Their announcement was a gut punch because playing 1 to 2 days per week I was on track to finish in late March or early April.
I had to double my play time to make sure I didn't end up screwed over and cheated out of hundreds of hours and months of anticipation, and low and behold, the first two weekends after they made the announcement, the servers were down for 8+ hours on the only day I can actually commit to longer sessions.
Just as a comparison, I was able to average 6.5 games on the weeknights I was able to play over the last week, and 24 games on this Sunday.
My main arena partner already gave up on getting most of his rewards because he only joined me around September and was rank 43 when the announcement went out. They simply didn't give an even slightly fair amount of notice for the largest and longest to unlock commendations in the game.
It's crazy to me that I was 75% of the way done according to the little numbers at the top of the Sea Dog tab, and I'm barely going to be able to finish it. What about all the people who are at 70% or 66% or even 40%? That's still 100+ hours of effort stolen from them.
Anyone that was unlucky enough to join at the wrong time after the game was added to Steam and got interested in arena was essentially cheated out of months of effort already put in if they happen to work for a living and can't play 20+ hours a week, or if Sunday happens to be your main day to play.
I understand that it takes them extra dev time to bug-fix arena with each new content patch, but they need to suck it up and extend the closing so people have a fair chance to finish what they started. This isn't some event achievement that takes a couple weekends to grind out. It's hundreds of hours, literally months of effort at a regular pace of play.
The closing of arena could have been a fun event with the usual Sea Dog spirit of fun contests, but instead it's oppressive and toxic as there's this ever-present threat that the more time you invest now, the more you're going to lose with one more ill-timed server outage, or a family emergency or what ever may happen.
