Please let us side with Flameheart.

  • Such a cool character and the whole point of the Reapers bones is to side with Flameheart but every story has you railroaded into fighting against him as if you didn't just spend hours dumping millions of gold worth of loot in tribute to him.

  • This is honestly my concern right now after seeing the stream today. It seems like they are focusing too much on a PvE story and not a PvP story. I totally expected a situation where players will choose to side with Athena's or Reaper's to increase PvP activities within the core story itself, but it feels like everyone is going to be railroaded into Athena's side and against Captain Flameheart and his Reaper's faction...

If this is what they are going to do, then honestly... As much as I hate to say it, but they are going to have to allow PvE servers of some kind since they are focusing so heavily on an one-sided story, which is a shame. I was hoping for that PvP focus story. I want to actually be able to make that choice of siding with whoever and fight against players who sided with my opponent, cause that would make the overarching story thrilling and fun in the long run.

  • I REFUSE TO BE DEFEATED BY YOU!

You don't think the new Athena stuff will drive reapers to fight Athena players?
There will be sides: focus on sinking Athena ships or being one. The game story has never been PvP.
Plus, they stated that community decisions in adventures will change the story. I wouldn't be surprised if one was based on Athena's Fortune vs. Reapers Bones.

  • I feel like what was said in the video about all of this sort of implied that you would have this option. In particular, they mentioned that - in some of these Adventures players will be faced with a choice, and based on those choices will determine how the story will conclude and how the world will change as a result.

What I took from this is that Adventures may start off from a single point (and so not all Adventures will feature a choice as some will essentially be platforms to move the story along), but that somewhere in all of this we will be faced with the choice of how we want to do something, and that the team will be tracking these choices at a player base level to see how things end up panning out.

They also implied that this conflict is mostly between Ramsey and Flameheart (though one might argue that perhaps Belle or others may also be side players in all this conflict), and so the logical choice point would be aligning with what Ramsey wants or aligning with what Flameheart wants (again, unless their are side motives from other characters we might be able to align with as well or instead).

So, personally, it seems obvious that this option will be on the table.

  • Wanna know why Gulliver didn't build a boat in Gulliver's Island?

    The story would end.

Siding with Flameheart would basically put the story to an end sooner than within the 10 years this game has been predicted to be developed for. If the pirates sided with Flameheart, he rules the seas with a flaming fist and takes away the freedoms we have on the seas.

I don't care if you want a more PvP ruled environment, you know damn well people will choose Reapers for its insane profits and its invitation to extremely tough Adventure PvP, and if you ask a player what would they prefer, morals/lore aside, they would pick Reapers, no question about it.

  • @blustradivari well.. it kinda sounded like we can, if we want... the devs actually stated that the players decide on the outcome and that outcome sticks - you decide en mass to help the big headed one... well we get stuck with that outcome.

Let's see what the 11th feb brings when we get more info.

  • And this is basically why I'm leery when I hear "we're letting players decide"

I don't want to side with Flameheart or Reapers.

  • I don't want to side with Flameheart (I'm all for the Order of Souls) but I sure hope that they give us the choice. In the trailer they said that they choices the players make will affect the world and change it, so I am hopeful that they will let us fight with the pesky Reapers and defeat them fair and square, not just force them to support the Pirate Lord because they have no choice.

  • @nex-stargaze That's not entirely true. Firstly, the trailer heavily implied that this will be the case, giving players choices that shape the world. Secondly, even if allowing players to side with Flameheart were to put an end to the story, that wouldn't happen in the course of a few months! The devs would know how to properly pace the story so that it doesn't progress too quickly or too slowly, and so that the grand battle between the forces of Flameheart and the Pirate Lord takes some time before the climactic finale. And finally, defeating or being defeated by Flameheart would in no way mean the story of the Sea of Thieves is over. On the contrary, the Seas have more stuff going for them than ever. A mysterious Dark Brethren have appeared, led by the even more mysterious Cap'n, and are trying to control the Sea of the Damned and defeat the Ferryman. Against them stands the crew of the Black Pearl, who have recently discovered a mystical artefact that holds the power to open portals to other words. Pirates have recently discovered the Sunken Kingdom, what lies deeper within the vaults and citadels of the Sirens still to be discovered. And word travels on the waves of an imminent destruction in one of the outposts, with green, eerie Fog of the Damned engulfing it and forcing its residents to abandon it.

I suppose though, that in a true world environment - the larger the group, the more likely they win. It will be nice to fight for Ramsey in the good fight either way.

  • I think most people would side with Athena and the majority would get the win. Even if Flameheart did start to win, the devs could come up with something that would eventually be the Reapers downfall. Some form of back stab or trickery. Similar to Flamehearts revival in a sense with Pendragon being fooled into releasing Flameheart. Flameheart himself could be fooled by someone and the tides turn. It will be very interesting to see where all this leads. One of my only worries is how much are the 2 week adventure periods going to be affected by multiple players trying to play it all at once and are PvP'ers going to camp the areas to prevent them being completed similar to when Pirates life launched. Or is that the intention. Exciting times.

  • I just hope it somehow ties in the emissary system in the faction conflict so we might actually start seeing athena emissaries regularly.
