New Twitch Drop Without Advertising

  • I just got a twitch drop today called Hornpipe Dance and i had no clue it was even a thing today. The drops page on sea of thieves website doesnt list any new drops, neither does the SoT twitter.

This is really unacceptable and a reason why so many people miss out on drops when no social media even mentions it, in-game doesnt and website doesnt.

  • some pretty good luck on your part because I just checked the wiki and it was a tight window you happened to slip into on a specific channel

  • @xlrking I don't remember where we got that dance before...but we got it somewhere/sometime else...you seem to just got lucky that a streamer gave that away, I guess...

  • @schwammlgott

I checked twitch's actual drops campaigns page and apparently all day at very specific time windows on specific streamers, youd get an item from each.

Thankfully i already have the other items like the Obsidian Figurehead but still Rare never said anything was happening on the 17th.

Wouldn't this be something based on the individual and their audience and would be the reason it's not advertised universally?

It would be weird to send everyone to one specific channel at a very specific and short window time wouldn't it?

  • I got an e-mail from SoT twitch (because I follow that channel):

SeaOfThieves is live: The Festival of Giving is here! Join us as we give out Twitch Drops randomly to members of the community. Who knows what could happen!

After an hour or so they did a raid to a channel and gave his viewers the chance to get the drop for 30 minutes by watching for 15 minutes or so.

No-one knew what was going on or what was going to happen - there were some songs playing during the wait.

  • @wolfmanbush Fact of the matter is the drops are listed in Twitch's campaign page and nowhere else.

Another just happened 30 minutes ago for the Omen Hull.

Wouldn't a specific drop for a specific channel be like when they give out codes or whatever for their own channels?

I guess to me it makes sense that an individual's deals aren't a part of the mass public's deals
I dunno the stream world well though so maybe I'm off base here or something

The Sea of Thieves twitch channel is still broadcasting. Seems like they randomly raid another channel and give out an old drop.

The list of what has been given out is being maintained on the wiki Twitch Drops page:

Oh I see it's a watch the broadcast type of deal

it just started playing pretty music

  • @d3adst1ck Im watching the SoT Twitch channel and its just a yule log type stream so id have no indication they were even doing drops to begin with but thank you for telling me.

This is a very odd and unintuitive campaign for items that people might want.

It's a cute little holiday thing.

but this is probably gonna get a lot of people fired up lol

Nice music and cool background though

I am sure they will - but if people want items from twitch drops they missed out on before, a smart thing is to keep an eye on the SoT Twitch.

Nice music and cool background though

    Aye.

Yeah…it such a big deal…the earth stopped moving. It really isn’t that big of a deal. It’s ingame digital item.
More than likely it be back in another time.

  • @burnbacon Sorry i forgot any criticism to any part of this game is not allowed even though all other twitch drops have public advertising in some way.

There might be people out there missing specific items from sets a 2nd or 3rd time.

I think a little trailer on their youtube would help a lot

it only has to be 15 seconds
show the globe play a christmas tune and advertise what is going on

good way to reach people imo

    this did seem under-advertised imo

a lot of the people in chat wanna go to bed but don't wanna miss out.
doesn't seem ideal from what I've seen

  • Rare.. You're still garbage for stuff like this..

Literally sticky a post on your official forums regarding stuff like this... how you STILL only post these like.. a month before the time it starts to ONLY FB or twitter after how many years of doing it is beyond stupid at this point.

Sad that it's literally always on one of us to actually make most people aware here.

  • I've managed to miss the Gilded Phoenix figurehead twice now, ughhh.

  • having participated now, imo

    The good:
    The visual is spectacular
The music (when it plays) is 10/10
    Toothless
The audio announcement and visual transition into a raid is tremendous

Areas where I think it could be improved:
    advertising

random unannounced drops could stay but if this was less daily time over more days I think it would work out better
people get tired, bored, and grumpy with how drawn out it is and I think it negatively affects the vibe of the participation

A lot of people miss out with this system which not only brings some negativity but it doesn't feel good to see people miss out on things they have been trying to get by seconds or a few minutes when the whole thing is based on positive holiday vibes.

  • This is freaking ridiculous. I love dance emotes and i already missed out on 2 of them just because the devs couldnt be bothered to let us know about the event.

    Super dissappointed.

  • Keep track of everything you already missed here! 🤣

  • @schwammlgott Its not new, it was part of the Gilded Phoenix drops.

  • Most in this thread are so self obsorbed that they completely missed the point of this event - it wasn't about the drops, it was about celebrating and sharing the love with smaller streamers by surprise raiding them. The drops were not the focus nor the main purpose, they were just a fun surprise bonus. Imagine that.

It can be both. The drops existed for appeal, if it was entirely a voluntary event to boost lesser known channels there wouldn't have been drops.

It's not unreasonable for people to say "great event involving drops, it did good things, it had positive effects, but let's grow from this learning experience and help the people that have missed these drops multiple times now at this point"

  • @wolfmanbush

Sure, it can be both. But that wasn't the point this time. If it had been advertised with anything containing the word "drops", that's where the focus would instantly land. A lot of replies in this thread should make that pretty obvious. I don't know about you, but I'd rather hold on to the idea that people can be better than this. That they can actually hop on something without first having to be lured in by the words "drops" being plastered everywhere.

Everyone needs everyone in the situation for the best outcome

    Streamers need the supporters
    the game needs the streamers
supporters appreciate drops and trade activity for it

Everyone involved benefits in some way. To act like it's only the spirit that makes it work just isn't factual. Everyone involved is personally benefiting as well as many are participating in the spirit of the event.

No reason to act like it's any different.

  • @wolfmanbush I feel like you're missing my point and I'm not sure how to explain it another way. Possibly I can say this - some people (in my experience unfortunately quite a few) will come in to a stream with a completely different mindset if you make it a "Drops guys, come get it" announcement. Very few will pay attention to the "in the spirit of celebrating the small streamers" and their attitude will in many cases be completely different than it is if they come in having no idea there are drops to begin with.

People stayed there because of drops.

That's why the drops were unknown and dropped at unknown times.

To keep people there. The people that were there were there because they didn't want to miss out on something.

As much as people enjoyed the orb worship meme they were still largely there for as long as they were for potential personal benefit.

I get what you are saying and I appreciate the sentiment but I think it's picking and choosing who should be pushed into the spirit rather than just acknowledging that we all benefit and that everyone benefits to involve more people next time around including the lesser known channels that get raided.

I was there for the drops. I don't much care for streaming in general but I still found a channel I enjoyed and have hung out with after the orb. Incentives combined with spirit also works when ran reasonably

  • Praise the orb.
