Met a whole crew of PC players on console only.

  • Was with a friend finishing the Athena Emissary and just as we got the legends chest on the boat a brig attacked us and we noticed the players shooting like they were PC, sniping us while we under the water while they were on a moving boat, and we checked and they appeared to be. There is a glitch where you can enter a server on Xbox drop out improperly and then use the return to game option on PC to get on Xbox servers. We lost our loot because of it. Fix this Rare, or temp ban player who do it.

  • Yeah that's common knowledge, but I'm pretty sure Rare's already aware of that it's just that they've done nothing about it because they're right to.
You see in the option for both PC and Xbox, it's stipulated that it's not a guarantee but more of a preference, so somewhere out there you'll always be fighting a player with m/k no matter what...

  • This is definitely not common knowledge and I am shocked this is a thing that got passed the QA team. SoT blocks PC players from joining Xbox only servers, outright. I have a few of my crew who forget they set this sometimes and I can not join them with or without a keyboard/mouse. I use a controller and it still blocks me as I"m PC platform.

There should be ZERO PC players on an Xbox only server. Using Mouse and Keyboard on an Xbox only is also blocked from joining, I believe. I don't own an Xbox so I can't give certainty there.

This sounds like an exploit, so yes those players should be temp banned. They know what they are doing when they do it.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but, can't XboX players use XboX mouse and keyboard?

  • we noticed the players shooting like they were PC,

This isnt enough evidence to prove that.

  • How would you possibly ever check to see if they're actually on PC...? Take the loss that they're better and might've optimised their sensitivity and are just better at aiming

This isn't any evidence at all, if you ask me.

No, plugging in a mouse or keyboard doesn't work, the game automatically disables them from taking command inputs so it doesn't react to any buttons

  • @shamanmclamie You're "proof" that these people were PC players is that they were good shots. Do you have any actual proof?

And were you on a xbox and controller only server? Because cross-play is only a preference, not an absolute. It is not hacking for a PC player to end up with console players.

  • I love how all the PC players are hollering fake news, can't be done, just take the loss. It's a very FPS type player thing to always put the other side at a marked disadvantage so they win easier and can't spam you with rolling in the deck laughing 100x over.

*Unless they are using one of the couple of different boxes out there that allows USB inputs to be masked as controllers to the consoles...

Asking for evidence is not "hollering fake news".

  • Assuming what you say is accurate, which I highly doubt, I can tell you that it would mess up their settings on PC. I know because I tested this on my old Xbox One when opt out first became a thing.

If you set your console to opt out of cross play, the game will give you an error if you try to matchmake on PC afterwards. I would be surprised if dashboarding on Xbox and trying to rejoin on PC would circumvent that.

It is far more likely that you were thrown into mixed servers because the game couldn't find you Xbox only servers. The game is currently at a pretty low population (far from dead, just the natural dip at the end of a season) so it's not surprising if that is the case.

It's either that or you assumed they were on PC because they optimised their controller set up and are just really good at the game.

In any case, without any kind of evidence, this claim is highly dubious and just comes across as venting over a loss.

  • @gallerine5582 Checking recently played on Xbox shows you that someone is on PC.

@gallerine5582 Checking recently played on Xbox shows you that someone is on PC.

This only works if they are appearing online and you check as you are playing against them.

Yes, you can check profiles and there are signs that a player is on PC, such as not having active Xbox Live Gold badge (the number of years active badge). However, given the OP supposes they start on Xbox and then jump to PC, they would have to have an active Xbox Live Gold subscription anyway, so that wouldn't work.

  • @realstyli There is literally a symbol that looks exactly like a PC next to their name if you go to their profile and they are appearing online.

  • @realstyli You also said...
"There are signs that a player is on PC, such as not having active Xbox Live Gold badge."

I gave you a much easier way to check.

  • @oddpoem71481766

Which I had already acknowledged. Your point is moot.

  • Skill Issue.

Which you can turn on/off if you want. You can choose on "which platform you play on" as well so it's not reliable source. Just go check my profile, I can ensure you that Mobile is not my main platform.

  • Also dropping by just to say... Choosing Xbox only is not a guarantee of getting Xbox only players on your server, it is just a preference...

You may not get dropped into an Xbox only server or you may get merged into a crossplay server if required to keep player numbers consistent.

You will however on both situations see a warning in the top left that you are Sailing the Seas with All Players

  • Corssplay game, it happens, especially if a console player invites their pc friends, but I don’t think it deserves a temp ban for simply using keyboard and mouse

PC user can't join a friend who's playing on Xbox only server, not even if he uses controller and cloud play.

  • @limend but you can use keyboard and mouse on Xbox

Isn’t the setting called “prefer controller only” though?

  • @soulflared said in Met a whole crew of PC players on console only.:

You can but like others have said it disables them.

  • Yea it don't work at all. I play with everyone but between people on PC switching from controller to Mouse Keyboard. People on consoles switching back and forth. People playing via cloud.

The first 100 videos of SOT's on YouTube everyday if you sort by Newest Released are all links to software for cheating on PC.

It's a mess. BUT the game does not have a K/D.

It really is just a ton of fun wither you sinking someone or getting sunk...

There is no reward for being "Good" and no punishment for being "bad".

In the grand scheme of things..it really don't matter.

But hey thats the future - cross platform gaming.

You can either roll with it and enjoy the benefits of it or let it turn you off from gaming.

One time I had someone unable to join. All he had to do was plug in his controller and it let him in.

Does it even matter? I'm on an original 2013 XBOX One. So someone on a XBOX X or XBOX S on the same server as me might as well be on there with a $4,000 dollar PC!

One of the things that made online gaming so special and competitive during the heyday of the 360, Ps3 was we all had the exact same set up. Same system, same controller, same graphics, same everything. But that was then ans this is now. Genies out of the bottle so best just to roll with it.

A year from now hardware will be gone and we'll log into XBOX like Netflix and play straight from our TV's.

  • The game will always tell you, what sea type you have and if it says Xbox only, it should always be Xbox only unless you merge into Open Seas.

I would not be surprised to hear this could be exploited in some way. While it is MOST likely they actually ended up on Open Seas, it should not be outright dismissed that players may be doing this.

And yes if players have found a way to exploit this, they should be temp banned for it.
