i know based on the title a lot of people will either come in here say "no" and leave, but I'm not talking about a safe haven people can run to as a pvp free zone. personally i'm a fan of working for a lot of loot only to fight over it on a final battle at an outpost, but what i'm not a fan of is getting killed before you start, i dont know how hard this would be to implement but i would love for rare to find a way so that you cant be sunk just while you leave the outpost the first time that session instead of the first thing u see being a blunderbuss and then sunk to start your adventure.
otherwise keep outposts how they are, outpost battles are fun but being sunk as soon as you load in isnt
safe outposts
this really only happens in 2 situations
the very very very rare time people collide wrong place wrong time. Happens so rare it's not a big deal.
the most common is that people drag their feet when they are doing things and sit at outposts way too long and someone comes along looking to sell. Some people wait patiently for a bit and some just eliminate the risk and sell
This can be avoided almost all the time by not sitting at an outpost being slow about getting the session started
and when stuff goes wrong just grab a new server or just respawn and play, not a big deal
It would have to be turned into a safe zone for everyone for the exact situation my buddy and I experienced today.
We were headed over to Plunder Outpost from Reapers to turn one item in for a commendation he needs. In route we noticed a fresh spawn sloop sitting there. We decide we'll approach it nicely and offer him our supplies before we hop over to Arena.
We got close and yelled out to him hey take our supplies and sent an ingame chat as well telling him he's welcome to our supplies.
He opened fire, took down our mast, and continued cannoning. Fair game. We let our boat sink, turned in the item, and then pooped all over him with his own ship and supplies. Hopefully be learned something through that...but probably not.
- mics save lives
- for this reason, there can't be any sort of safety for fresh spawned ships

I'd argue it's not as rare as it may seem. Turns out Plunder Outpost is a really good hotspot for other crews to spawn in while another crew is there without their boat in vicinity. I've not only seen it happen on stream and videos, but I was able to reproduce it with a crew during Season 2.
We wound up tucking on a brigantine that spawned there after we were ending our session and letting our boat sink. They bothered to raise the Athena's Fortune Emissary flag and rush over to a Fort of Fortune. The encounter was a little messy admittedly, getting caught and managing to somehow sink the full-ish brigantine crew before we made it to the fort, but still, that wouldn't (and arguably shouldn't) be possible just by scuttling your ship and being at Plunder Outpost with a somewhat inactive server.
The only protection I want to see is spawn protection.
I once loaded the game and I was dead in the inn before I even loaded, then I was greeted by black screens, ferryman and then respawning onto my ship to be killed once again. Couldn't even play and I had only just logged on.
Only happened once as for some reason the game spawned me to an outpost with a crew on it, but it was the most frustrating and stupidest thing I've ever faced on this game.

Outposts are trade zones after all. I laughed in WOW when NPC guards attacked bad faction trouble makers 😂 . Safe outposts would be great social meeting places. I want to meet potential friends in game not on an app. Let’s meet at the tavern, drink, dance and converse. Leave the dock all deals off.
