Guardians of the Seas Emissary

  • I enjoy my time as a solo sloop as much as time spent with friends, but considering how Reapers goes for Trading Companies and how most people doing Emissaries are not interested in fighting reapers, I'm hoping for slight spice of things to encourage naval combat as well as stopping Reapers from constantly running.

    Guardians of the Seas description:
A crew assembled by the Ferryman and the Pirate Legends to protect the Seas (and the Seas only)

    Gameplay and Rewards:

    1. Only limited to 1 (Or maybe up to 3 crews per server)
    2. Available to Pirate Legends only to help newer players
    3. Rewards and Reputations are not gained from selling Treasures
    4. Crew gains Rewards and Reputations by 2 specific means
      • Sinking Ghost ships/Skeleton Sloops/Galleons/Fleet (Normal Rewards per Kill, redeemable at outpost)
      • Sinking Reapers and selling Reaper Emmisary (High Rewards)
      • Putting Treasures on crews of other Trading Companies (Small reputation gain)

If it's not possible to gain reputation just from skeleton ships sunk, perhaps allow skeleton ships to drop a loot only sellable by the Guardians as proof of Kill. Rewards can still be sold normally but it will encourage the giving of treasure to the PvE oriented players.

Reapers should not be able to see the Guardian on the map but they can gain even higher rewards on successfully taking down a Guardian and taking their flags compared to normal trading companies.

The reason for reputation gain only on naval kills is so that they will focus more creating a space where Reapers are also actively engaged upon near World Events as well as having other Trading Companies sail near to encourage Alliance battles.

Ideally the craziest thing that might happen is one Guardian teaming up with Trading companies to take an alliance of reapers down. But in most cases we should be looking at 1 Guardian fighting Skeletons while going against either PvP reapers that keeps coming back or Server hopping Reapers.

Loot lost during combat this way may benefit trading companies near the fight, and also encourage the active completion of Skeleton Fleet and Flameheart events.

SoT is a great game, I enjoy fun and exciting Naval combats, but watching ships getting jumped on after clearing an event and the reapers not willing to take another fight and just running for as long as possible (Even exploiting the Shroudbreaker) I feel there's a need up the ante and make reapers feel just as vulnerable as other trading companies out there.

It'll still be a dog eat dog world, just that we'll be sending in Kong to fight Godzilla, in a sense.

  • @jjjynx9288 I quite like this idea and could see it working, however I feel the Reapers should be able to see where the new crews are - even if only when they hit grade 5 perhaps?

  • Idea feels redundant and unnecessary to me. Emmisary crews are quite capable of defending themselves and don't need a babysitter.

  • @galactic-geek not all crews though and it would give the Reapers reason to pause and think.

Makes sense as well that Ramsey would want to look after other pirates after all he went through with his crew!

  • @sshteeve Reapers already make other Reapers pause and think - they are their own worst enemy.

Exactly. That's the beauty of the Reapers, they eat their own.

  • I'm not a fan of the whole "Pirate Defender" Emissary. Whenever I see these posts they are usually created to specifically target the Reapers. This wouldn't be a problem, but Reapers already have an uphill battle as is. They already are 24/7 Visible on the map and they are already targeted by their own faction. Reapers are given just as much incentive to sink each other as they are other Emissaries.

People make the mistake of assuming Reapers are this united faction which they aren't. That and the other factions are no more deserving of protection than any other faction. Creating a faction for the sole purpose to give protection to only certain players is just silly. An Order of Souls Emissary is just as equally capable of defending and attacking as the Reapers are.

Can we stop trying to create an "Us vs. Them" dynamic with the Reapers? I'm all for new Emissaries, but defender factions have no place in this game.

exactly! lol during the reaper event, and even now, when my crew runs reaper, we seem to turn in only reaper flags.

  • I do get that Reapers are currently their worst enemy.

But I see just as many Reapers running away from each other and then attacking other new players that are just minding their own voyages mid chase, or simply running away from the emmisaries if they run a smaller ship. Sure that's not the case for streamers since jumping into a fight creates content but for me joining an open crew and seeing a new gold hoarder captain getting wrecked while solving puzzles on an island, that's just kind of sad.

And I don't see why Reapers shouldn't band up if they are interested in taking over world events in one server (Already seen it and done it a few times)

The goal is to Encourage Reapers to not turn tail and run at the first sight of another Reaper, and keep them on their toes while raiding another crew, just as much as other Trading Companies doing their voyages instead of just looking at their map every minute and knowing that there's another Reaper in town coming straight for them.

Trading Companies should be wary of Reapers during Voyages
Reapers should be wary of Reapers and Guardians when trying to Raid Trading Companies
Guardians will have the least Rewards gained during runs but they will be the ones constantly running into a fight head on be it Skeletons ships or Reapers

Pretty much just sick of Reapers running away with the worst ones using the shroudbreaker against new captains

@sshteeve Yes that sounds pretty cool, and it'll create active engagement on the tier 5 crew for massive rewards. Revealing them even at tier 3 sounds nice too.
