Let's see the bone crusher figurehead come back with this year's Halloween event. And before the 300+ days played crowd calls for my head, just make it the fearless variant. So they can stay exclusive, never use it, and those who really like it and would use it, can get it.
Bonecrusher figurehead
@retroraccoon741 I use the bonecrusher figurehead atleast once every month, so dont assume we dont use it. I really think there should be a fearless bone crusher, but I wouldnt expect it to be a kraken skull, the fearless set uses the boar skull. kraken skull should remain locked behind the cursed event that brought it into being.
I feel like there's an opportunity to bring back a lot of those time-limited items. A way that would give the OGs something to work for, while simultaneously giving the newer players a chance to experience the events that were, IMO, much better prior to Seasons...and really even better prior to the Crews of Rage update. There's so many components to the game that go underappreciated and are just kind of "there" to a lot of new players.
My idea would be for a new event, similar in nature to the OG stuff (Hungering Deep, Wandering Reaper, Cursed Sails, etc. all the good ones). They would have slight tweaks to either make them just as hard as before, or even harder since some things have since been nerf'd. The cosmetic rewards would have 2 variants. A sweaty re-skin for the folks that already have the OGs, and the OGs for the people that complete the new event. Or, just offer up a re-skin for everyone and leave the OG stuff in the past. I'm more interested in bringing back those events since the more recent stuff has been pretty lackluster. The best most recent one IMO was the Fate of the Damned event...and those cosmetics aren't even exclusive to that event, which is even more proof that the past events were better.
@sweetsandman those events were designed for a game that doesn't exist anymore. They have left similar events in the game. Go and do the fleet.
@captain-coel I'm taking about the mid-season events. Not the actual world events and emergent enemies that those updates brought. The things that challenge you and reward you. I mean look that the Mayhem and the Jewels of the Deep ones we just got... utterly uninspired and boring compared to the challenges of the past.
@sweetsandman call them uninspired and boring, but cursed crews was the worst event ever done in this game. it had absolutely silly and harsh time requirements. My crew still jokes about how that event broke us. It wasn't fun, it was the worst type of chore.
There have been 2 mechanic defining events that added world events. Hungering Deep and Curaed Sails.
Reapers runs were terrible. Thrones miserable. OG mermaid statues didn't even have gems, still needed 100.
So even when these events seem uninspired they are just fetch quests and encourage a single type of play. Some of thr events do so to encourage pvp and player interaction. I know we made deals with other crews to have other loot and we kept gems to help a crew mate finish the event.
I would love to have large world impacting events more often, but I also want the events that have come and gone to stay in the past.
@captain-coel Cheers to that last bit. I wouldn't want them to come back exactly in the same format by any means. I'd want them to be tweaked heavily. Do something to give new life to all the cool things that came to the game in the first 2 years...the meg...the Reapers Mark... skeleton ships..etc.
And you hit a note there. Do something that drives player interaction in a positive and/or competitive way. Something that drives communication. Something that drives collaboration and teamwork.
My buddy always tells me stories of how they got entire servers together to go fight the meg and how much fun that was. Sadly, I was not playing the game at that time, and there really haven't been any things introduced that drive players to work together.
Just ran into another pirate that asked me about how to get this figure head since I was rocking it. I told him the story of cursed sails and how you had to do certain fleets at certain times of day and all the excitement and heated battles there were fought. It's nice to have timed limited stuff in the game so you can tell the tales of glory and grief. Its very pirate like. A big part of this game is about flexing and lore. I am a fan of the re color idea because it doesn't take away from the pirates who have the original. Certain items and titles have fun tales to be told. One of the best things in this game is sharing and swapping stories with other pirates about how you got this or that. A time limited item is kinda timeless. Or to some time well spent.
That would be very appreciated from the community members that started playing after cursed sails, hungering deep and so on. A revival of great events would be very cool, but it also would compromise the lore. I would love to fight Captain Warsmith and the original skeleton fleet again, but players that already done that would be very upset.
Otherwise, old rewards could be unlockable behind some already in game grindy commendations or with reskinned events. And for those who already have unlocked all, maybe there could be a reward of 80 - 100 Ancient Coins for every piece they already have.@captain-coel Cursed Sails made me give up the game for a while - I was a day one player with every possible commendation and therefore item up to that point.
Sadly a 2 year old and other IRL commitments locked me out of the full event because, despite what some in my old crew said, no, I couldn't just "tell the wife you're having an afternoon to yourself to sail". I also refused to play in the middle of the night in a random crew to get it.
I pointed things out to Rare early doors, to which they made some adjustments, but by that time it was too late to fix the timings.
Worst. Event. Ever.
That being said - they clearly listen as they have tweaked and improved events immeasurably since then. It was a pleasure to come back to the see in June for the third time.
