Aimbots, Infinite Ammo & Cheats

  • Hi there,

So this is becoming a problem. Every now and then we come across a crew that is obviously cheating.
    Example from last week;
We started the night with an alliance, then all got together on one boat for an 8-man Galleon. We're all veterans, some have been playing since day 1. We were chased by a sloop, with incredible cannon accuracy for about an hour until we finally boarded them, kegged & sunk them. They then came back at us immediately, chasing us for another 2 hours, firing an incredible volume of fireballs, cursed balls and chainshot, which DID NOT miss, even from the very edge of cannon range. They must have fired over 200 fireballs at us alone, nevermind the 100's of other balls. We couldn't see it was possible for them to have that much ammo after just respawning, and none if us have ever seen cannon accuracy like that.

    So whats the go Rare?
Is there any effort to kill the software that allows this?

  • Did you report them?

  • This is the second or third instance I've heard of this now. Is there actually another cheat out there that hacks supply and are people actually using it?

  • @smuntface Ahoy!
Might I suggest if you recorded the antics of said sloop (I hope someone in your 8 man alliance crew did) you forward it on to Support.
    Rare take hacking/cheating very seriously.

    Cheers!

  • I find it curious that I play for over 2.4k hours, and I don't find a single hacker, but everyone else finds them frequently with under 100 hours usually.

Record them; otherwise, there's no way of evidence to prove these hacks which could easily professional players.

  • 8 man galleon, all veterans, chased by a sloop for a total of 3 hours. Thats just to funny 🤣

    Sorry🙊

  • It's your own fault wasting 3 hours running from a fight where you outnumbered them 4 to 1.

  • @smuntface ways of getting that many cannonballs,

Stop at 2 outposts purchasing a cannonball crate at each, there is 100 right there, 40 from spawning supplies, 10 each in inventory from before the previous sink.

Easy 160 cannonballs. Then shoot over at least one person to each island you pass, thats generally 10+ cannonballs per island. Lets say they passed 5 islands, thats an easy extra 50 cannonballs and lowballing it.

So 210 cannonballs with little to no effort.

Not counting any barrels they passed, storage crates or rowboats that where washed up on any of the islands.

And continually shooting on a sloop is easy, one person shoots and calls out when running out, other person replaces them rinse and repeat.

Also good cannon aim on the sloop isn’t that hard for any trained individual, give Beardageddon a watch on twitch he can be scary with those damn things.

Not saying there wasn’t any foul play involved but certainly not saying there was, aimbots for cannons are so hard because of all the variables which is more easily controlled by a human.

In cases of doubt though, record it and submit a report to rare, they will look at the evidence provided and act accordingly

  • I have noticed this too only when I go on pc servers. Everyone wants to say it doesn't happen or its 1 in a million etc etc. It's waaaay more prevalent then the pc community wants to admit. Aimbot, esp, target tracker, supply multiplier, hitbox jittering. And before the pc crowd cries fowl and says they don't exist or work, 2 of my PC buddies sat me down and showed me how it works when I called them out that they didn't/can't hack SoT. They said it was easy, alot of pc players do it, there are forums and site just for cheating and that RARE must not take it as serious as they say they do, because they loaded up the game, waited till they hit the server and turn it all on. 30 minutes later I had seen all of it with my own eyes work flawlessly. Little outlined rectangles all over the screen in different colors for player, npc, masts, cannons, pve enemies. Target and lock into one and send shots. 100% accuracy. They are "day 1" veterans of the game, and use the cheats to "have fun". I refuse to play on anything but Xbox only, where the playing field is more or less even. Pointing to a "support" button and using the same old stamp of record proof ( you on the receiving end of hacking cannot see or record their little screen boxes or any hard, tangible "proof", calling it fixed is a honestly lazy way of dealing with cheaters and hacking detection. I'm by no means attacking the dev team, but on the other side of the coin, I am suggesting you deal with it sooner rather then later before it kills off the 70% of your players base that is not extreme "pro" players or cheaters.

  • This is just 1 of many reasons why I choose not to participate in cross-platform play.

  • I mean, I'm at 729 hours played in the game, mostly on my Xbox, always in cross play servers, and I've seen one person I suspect might have been cheating (and even then, was very skeptical of it). Certainly never seen a infinite supply or ammo (not did a search turn anything up for that for me, lots of ESP and Aimbot, but nothing about infinite supplies or ammo).

Some cheats exist, but I don't honestly believe I have ever encountered anyone using them. I'm sure some people do, they exist after all, but it really isn't wide spread and I'm astounded by the things I've seen people claim to be cheats for this game (invincible ships, invincible pirates, now unlimited supplies and ammo) without ever being able to find these cheats out there.

What I do see is a lot of people claiming cheats, in particular in cases where it is clearly not the case (like a number of streamers or even myself having been called this before). I see a lot of people surprised by the degree of skill that can be accomplished in this game, despite simple mechanics. But I find myself struggling to find these cheats.

  • @retroraccoon741 the funniest part of some of the things you are proclaiming is that some of those things are unmodifiable by the game client since they are server side managed aka uncheatable

  • @galactic-geek well cannon aim is technically easier on controller but pvp definitely isn’t

Cannon aim IS a part of PvP. In my experience, controller pirates have it easier with ship to ship combat, while keyboard/mouse pirates have it easier with personal combat. Either way, again, it's all a part of the umbrella of PvP, which falls under the even bigger umbrella of combat as a whole...

  • go to youtube and search sea of thieves hacks and there is a live recording of a currently functioning hack, lately the arena has had the same problem people are taking down all ships masts without even using a chainshot literally unheard of accuracy killing whole gally crews with just canons . the hacking is becoming a major issue i hope rare intends to counter it before it kills this game!

Aimbot hacking with projectile weapons, such as cannons, would need to have astronomically precise prediction algorithms in order to be able to hit something as thin as a mast repeatedly, from one moving target to another.

I don't believe such an aimbot exists. They might have very good aim but I highly doubt it's a hack.

I reported their channel on YouTube since they are entirely dedicated to advertising hacks; I still highly doubt that the cannon section was a legitimate hack but barrel ESP, among other things, is definitely cheating.

  • @blam320 not sure how it all works but i can tell you man some out of the normal stuff is happening , i reported the youtube channel as well i only hope rare gets to see that so they can combat it!

  • @blam320 you don’t believe such aim bot exists? You can search for sea of thieves hacks and it is listed. You can literally go watch YouTube videos which show you how the hacks work. Arena has become unbearable and rampant with hackers. Rare doesn’t seem to care either which is sad because they are going to lose their community of legit gamers.

That's some serious, serious hyperbole going on there. Hackers aren't "rampant" in this game, I've gone hundreds of hours and only seen ONE person who was suspicious.
