Easier way to switch between Private Chat and Game Chat? (Xbox)

  • I'm not sure if this is a problem on PC, since I play on Xbox. But switching between Private (Party Chat) and Game Chat is kind of a cumbersome process and I was wondering if there could be an easier way to do it.

Currently, if you're on a private group with your crew, bump into other players and wish to talk to them, you need to press the home button, navigate to your chat options, and hit yet another button to switch channels. This means leaving your character unattended for a few seconds, and every in-game second is like a whole year in real life.

I realize this may be more of a Microsoft problem than Rare's, since it's an Xbox interface issue. But oh well, just saying.

Speaking trumpet should work fine to talk to others, same radial as bucket and spyglass etc.

Unless the trumpet somehow bypasses the Party Chat configuration and allows your voice to be heard in the game world, I don't think that's the issue. Xbox Party Chats are independent from games and therefore when you're on them others can't hear you—at all. Only those who have been invited to your party can. Kind of like Discord.

The problem is that sometimes, you don't want others to hear you, and some other times, you want them to be able to. And the current process to switch from one channel to another to make yourself audible is too slow and awkward.

Oh I see. I play on PC and you can use both there even though we generally use Discord anyway.

So Discord on your phone + PTT it is then.. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

  • @wagstr

I've done it before, but I end up having to wear two headsets at the same time: one for the Game Chat through Xbox and another for Discord or whatever app the other people are on.

And as backwards as that sounds, it still means a faster switch than going from Party to Game Chat.

Oh, and while we are at this, another thing:

Is there any way to make player voices audible through your headset while the game's sound plays through speakers only?

I don't like both things coming through the same place. And while I hear my crew or anyone in a private chat through my headset only, everyone else in the game I hear through the TV speakers. This makes it harder to understand them at times, because their voice gets mixed up with sound effects.
