Trials and trib... er, commendations

  • I've only been playing this game since Jan. '21. When I first saw that there were checklists of things to do, and commendations and titles to earn for doing them, the achievement lush in me said, "Great! Boxes I can check off to earn bragging rights on all the things in this game that I'd successfully completed!" So I started puzzling out (while figuring out how to play) how to go about checking off my boxes.

Then Season 2 hit. All my boxes reset themselves. "Wait, what?"

Sure, I know I earned titles already, and that I got to keep them. But now, I couldn't tell, at a glance, what I had done and not done. And titles can only displayed one at a time so it's not very satisfying. Neither did my friends, who were also interested in feeling like they'd completed "everything". It took the wind out of my sails. Now it's hard to care about doing it.

I understand resetting renown for each season; it encourages people to go out there and do things for new cosmetics, gold, etc. But do you have to keep resetting my boxes?

  • If they don't reset the trials, it'll be harder to level the season pass

  • The trials are all intended to be reset because they are used for boosts to renown every season. If they never reset, it would be harder and harder to complete each new season and earn the rewards.

If you're looking for permanent tasks to complete, look at the commendations for the various Trading Companies or in the Bilge Rats.

  • @aribalam I understand the mechanic; it's not complicated. What I don't understand is why the trials have to be the same every season. I mean, Sure. . . make me jump through hoops. But at least make them new hoops.

Or, better yet, why not allow me to keep my trial progress, all of it, until I complete all of it. Then replace them with new trials next season?

    I'm in agreement here.

There are currently 78 trials spread across 4 catagories. I think a good move by Rare would be to create a total of ~250 different trials, then they can choose 78 from the pool each season. This way, we'll always get some fresh trials that weren't around last season, mixed with some that were. Seems like a 'best of both worlds' situation.

That's what already is in the game... from Season to Season there are trails that are new, trials that are removed and trials that are the same.

  • @lem0n-curry I thought the season 2 and season 3 were exactly the same. My mistake if not.

There are deeds with enemies and Tall Tales that are new in Season 3, so they are definitely not the same.

  • @lem0n-curry Well good on Rare then. Shows how much I actually look at the trials lol
