Shroudbreaker Checkpoint Exploit

  • Can we please remove the shroudbreaker checkpoint exploit? Tired of noobs running to the sanctity of shores of gold by popping the shroudbreaker checkpoint in the middle of the roar to escape impending doom and sit AFK at the shores of gold.

  • Why not get the checkpoint for yourself and your crew?

  • @treefittymonsta Get the checkpoint yourself. It pays off for players who care to do tall tales. It's funny to thwart an angry pvper by simply sticking down a book they were too lazy to get.

  • @treefittymonsta and next? Remove the ability to vote for the tale on morrows peak when another ship is nearby? Just get the checkpoint yourself...takes about 30 minutes with a crew...

Because i don't like using exploits. just like quick switch by tapping x. fast dig by tapping x. fast bucketing by tapping x.

I refuse to exploit to win, but I'll sure complain about people using exploits that Rare doesn't seem to care to fix.

  • Being able to vote up an item in the middle of the ocean that lets you traverse the red sea. is an exploit and should be fixed.

  • @treefittymonsta I wouldn't call it an exploit...but what do I know...this tactic is less annoying than the red sea runners

They're not noobs, they completed 8 Tall Tales and got quite a way on the 9th 😁

Besides that - I agree with you; perhaps if you spend time in a session to activate it you can have access to the Shores of Gold. But not on a whim.

I see no harm in changing the activation of the checkpoint to the vicinity of Morrow's Peak only or perhaps no loot will pass on entering the area beyond the shroud.

I'm not going to cheese the game. if people are so bad that they have to have this in the their pocket to run away.. then fine. but its still an exploit in my book. and i refuse to cheese a game.

Shame on the devs for letting this be in the game.

I suppose some could see it as an exploit since one would be using it to run instead of the intended purpose which is to progress a Tall Tale, but I feel it is a bit of a stretch and not worth arguing over.

We have the Tall Tale specifically to chase down others who decide to try and run to the Shores of Gold, but whether or not you choose to do the same is up to you.

I don't see any suggestions on how you would like it fixed? The whole point of the checkpoints is to pick up where you left off and this particular Tall Tale requires the Shroudbreaker from the very start. I suppose they could allow you to use the Checkpoint but still stop at Morrow's to retrieve the Shroudbreaker in order to continue?

Shrug.. i don't know how to fix it. Maybe I'm just frustrated that Rare doesn't care about this behaviour. Maybe I'm jsut blowing off steam..... because a game I love has become such a pool of exploiters. ugh... i don't man... maybe Mickey will fix it.

I am not suggesting you should... the "you" in my text was intended to be a general "you" not you personally ... if that makes sense.

Or are you not only wanting to remove the checkpoint exploit, but the trick with the Tall Tale in general ?

Shame on the devs for letting this be in the game.

  • I don't know man. i've never exploited nor cheated in a multiplayer game. It just feels dirty.

I like to win with 'skill'.. but it seems that everyone is exploiting these days.

From loot juggling, to fast dig, to fast bucket, to using a tall tale to escape into the red sea... and to top it off now Mickey Mouse will be involved... its been a rough week.

i guess i'll always lose runners to the shores of gold because i refuse to use this cheese exploit.

The loot juggling and speed digs don't bug me so much, but agree they should be fixed. Top of my list for exploit fixes would be the speed bucketing and DPI glitching while in the water... Those two have way too much impact on PvP D:

ug yah... the dpi glitch.. i forgot about that one. i watched SOT streamers one time... for drops.. and every single one of them were using these exploits... so i guess its ok.. i guess..

just seems dirty to me.. i like to win by using the game mechanics as intended.. maybe this puts me at a disadvantage. shrug.. i just don't want to be a script, exploit, cheater whatever it should be called these days.

I point at the devs for not fixing these exploits and allowing their SOT partners to showcase these exploits as valid game play on streams.. Rant rant rant... yah i know.. but ugh.. the exploits.. don't let your Partners showcased these... the least you can do Rare....

  • i once watched a prominent stream loot juggle a keg across the seas to a galleon for a 'win'.... it was sad to see an SOT streamer exploit to win.

Stop the exploits. please. Come one Mickey... maybe i'm asking too much..

  • As you said and already know.

Noobs use it and it’s only for the roar area by shores of gold.

    Not worth chasing or waiting.

  • If Rare allows it, it is fair game.
I don't bother to watch streamers, so not concerned about who or what they influence.

    SWAG

I don't bother to loot juggle and whatnot, but I keep a Shroudbreaker in my glovebox.
    I like that option.

I set my sails to stupid for speed.
I also sword surf and bunnyhop, that's ok right?

  • @treefittymonsta we must remember that the sword glide in the water was once considered an exploit... X canceling is just as old, so are a lot of these. I think if they were so against players using them, they'd have done something by now.

  • It's not a exploit imo

yah but rare has acknowledge it was a happy accident and not an exploit. I just want to know their stance on the 'exploits' being used in the game right now. surely they can't all be valid play.

  • Many people argue that all the cancel exploits are do-able by people. I am in the camp that some are beyond most players abilities.

This however is nothing more than completing tall tales (easiest thing in the game) and saving your shores of gold checkpoint. Literally accessible to anyone who has played the game for 9 hours.

  • @treefittymonsta I mean I totally see your point but none of those things are really exploits. If you can do anything in the game to make yourself better than how is that exactly an exploit? I’m not saying using a tall tale checkpoint isn’t necessarily an exploit I totally agree that people are using it and they are abusing it. But using all of those other things that you mentioned you’re not really exploits. That’s just getting better at the game.

  • @schwammlgott I can see both sides. I don’t really see it as an exploit personally because there are some people that legitimately still need that’s all tail. However there have been multiple times I’ve been chasing a ship only for them to duck into the Red Sea and go to the shores of gold. However I do have used it if I’m by myself and I’m just like you know what I’m tired of this person chasing me. So at the end of the day who cares how you play the game just play however you want to play and be done with it.

  • @archangel-timmy exactly lol

alright I'll draft a post that list instructions on how to do each of these actions and see what happened to that post. I bet it'll get deleted because I'm describing exploits.

  • What happened to "tools not rules"?

This is another tool. I picked up the checkpoint the first time I played after the update. It's saved my loot a couple of times. Someone was prepared and got me too lol. I've had to use it maybe 3 or 4 times.

I encourage everyone I play with to do this.

  • I have played since Day 1 and have never done a Tall Tale. I’m looking forward to finding a Tall Tale group via the XBOX LFG system the next time I play.

Just to get this Shroud Breaker thing.

I don’t see it as an exploit at all as it is readily available and attainable to everyone.

I see it as a neat clever thing the player base has come up with!

  • @treefittymonsta this "exploit" is quite literally the only advantage in this horizontal progression based game that experienced players have over new players. Is it annoying if you dont have it? Yeah. Then just make sure you always keep the checkpoint on you or go to Morrow's Peak and start the TT. I like having it because it's like saying "Yeah I've got the gold curse and can sail here whenever I want and watch new players sink chasing me". I've been chased into the shroud by other players with shroudbreaker and I've chased other ships trying to run into the shroud. Its 100% a last resort type thing but it's nice to have that up your sleeve. As someone who has been level 75 in everything for over a year now I always felt like I got nothing to show for it, this final chapter is kinda like a nod from the Pirate Lord for playing this game so much. If someone doesnt have it then sucks for them. Also what difference does it make if someone were to sail into the red sea you would lose their loot anyways? Btw I find it mind boggling that there are still players with 120 million miles sailed out there that have yet to complete the Tall Tales

  • @treefittymonsta Dude if you a serious sweaty PVPer your already got that checkpoint, if you causal than its on you. We chase ships often and I have that checkpoint saved for one purpose only. You can run but you can not hide.
Get with the system and get checkpoint yourself.

  • @pithyrumble right?

  • @treefittymonsta Hey you do you man if you feel that it’s an exploit that doesn’t need to be utilized I respect that. But at the same time people like me who haven’t completed it fully still need to use it in order to get my commendations. I’ve been playing the game since day one so I totally get where you’re coming from and when people use it and abuse it I agree it is definitely an exploit. But at the same time sometimes it needs to be used for certain things. So I get where you’re coming from and again I respect your stance

meh I don't like cheesing games like that

  • @treefittymonsta You not cheesing, you are stopping others from cheesing. You have no idea how much people are surprised to see ship follow them to Shores of gold.

I guess just feels dirty. ur response is like saying it's ok to cheat as long as u only activate them when fighting a cheater
