Buy storage crates

  • It would be nice if you could buy storage crates at outposts or sea stores.

it might happen but why not

  • @closinghare208
seems a simple thing to add, and would make starting out voyages much quicker, by not having to run back and forth from barrels to your boat so much.

No. Never. The ability to purchase storage crates for gold turns possession of gold into an advantage.

Also, think of the horrible situation a person with a beefy pc could decide to troll, purchase a ton of storage crates, so much that it lags anyone that nears the outpost. You could literally cripple someone's game performance that way by doing nothing but the means the game provides you to.

  • Even empty crates help circumvent ship barrel placement. Imagine a galleon with a crate next to every cannon versus a sloop with none. Now the galleon crew doesn't have to run down below deck anymore to reload their inventory. Worst of all? They didn't even earn the privilege!

it doesn't have to allow you to buy more than one... I hate the time it takes to run from barrel to boat and back to initially load up. And secondly I can't imagine there's anybody with 0 gold anyway.

Why would the sloop have none?

  • @redbaron1673 it still evades the main point of; you turn possession of gold into an advantage.

Couldn't have said it any better

Supplies are plentiful in the world, stock as you go. I very often just do 1/2 supply runs on the island (plus the supplies that spawn with the boat) and just harpoon barrells, cannon over to islands as my ship sails past, loot the island I'm doing whatever on.

  • @redbaron1673 I'm against it...but nobody ever listens to me so...i don't care

As someone who solos a lot in this game. You don't have to gather resources at outposts.

What are you doing that you need resources immediately after leaving??

Even when I'm hunting for emissary's I can just shoot off to islands or even stop by one of the big ones and pick up a storage crate or a row boat full of supplies.

Not to mention the barrels that spawn constantly in the water in front of your ship.

You can even sink skelly ships for them now.

You want to know what purchasing crates really do??

They remove the sense of any resource management. Ever attack a ship or have a ship attack you and think to yourself "Gee they have a lot of chainshots, but they should run out soon" but they never run out.

Purchasing crates will shift the balance of ship battles as well. With the barrel system, the longer the ships been on the server the more likely it will have a crazy amount of resources (at least it should). Think how its going to be when a sloop sees a Galleon spawn in and within a minute that Galleon is already sailing towards that sloop.

In normal cases the sloop can judge that the Galleon shouldn't have that much in supplies, not anymore though.

Resource management is a skill. It is developed. By allowing crate purchasing or resource purchasing you are removing that skill.

  • The game is based upon session progression.
Getting supplies in your ship is a part of the progression you made in your session. Been sink is basically a progression reset.

The idea of buying supplies / storage crate(s) have been posted here over a thousand times, they will simply not add it in. How sad it may sound, a lot of players would love this idea. I am one of them.

I know you meant this as a anti storage crate purchase thing but this made me laugh and if they ever add this to the game I'll buy the crates for my crew and we'd be unstoppable

  • Why not just give every ship a free empty storage crate instead? It help speed up picking up supplies and get to the actual game part
