Xbox Controller, Analog Stick, Moving Forward Bug?

  • I've notice that over the past couple of weeks, that when I'm play the game with an Xbox controller and move forward with the left analog stick, my pirate will stay still for a few seconds and then move forward or moves at a slow pace? It happens a lot when I'm sprinting, my pirate will run/swim at full speed and then stop and then back to sprinting pace again?

Now I thought this might be something to do with my calibrating in my Xbox controller, however, everything looks to be fine? I try other games and they seem to be working fine.

Is this an issue that anyone else is having or is it just me and I've been cursed?

  • This isn’t an issue with the game, this is your controller itself. This is called controller drift. There are ways to fix the issue but the most effective thing will be replacing the internal joystick components or just using a different controller.

  • @mattthecopycat

When was the last time you updated your controller? There are often patches to do this on Xbox, you will likely have to hard wire it to your console to perform this action.
(can even use a phone charging cable if it is compatible)

    Settings
    Devices & Connections
    Accessories
And then select the 3 dots...

  • @needsmokes I'm on PC and yes I have update the settings on it.

  • @illbushido305 I swear this happens to me a lot.

Well I guess I'll have to get myself a new controller, again. :(

  • Try compressed air, it might just be some debris in there.

  • @mattthecopycat fixing it might actually be a cheaper alternative. Those internal components are actually quite inexpensive. I had my SoT controller’s RB malfunction for no real reason so I replaced the internal RB switch and it worked great.

  • I use an elite controller 2, and I had the same issue. A bit of compressed air worked for awhile, but eventually it was a permanent issue. I submitted a ticket with Microsoft and, even though it was out of warranty, they replaced it. If I remember, there was also a statement about extending the warranty of all elite controllers because of the drift issue. Not sure if you have an elite, but worth checking out. My new controller hasn't had any issues.

  • @sammyr0cks I don't have an elite controller, and yeah I've got a new one and it seems to be working fine.

  • There is an option in controller settings to make the sticks "difts". Under controller response, the higher the number the less drift. If you put it to 1 your controller will react to the slightest of movement
