So, if you diligent pirates looked in the patch notes, you might’ve noticed something called the “Dark Adventures” set being sold in the Pirate Legend Hideout. Well, I logged in to check it out, and turns out the set, which is equipment and weapons for now, ranges from ~600,000 to ~2,500,000 gold. Us pirates have asked for a good gold sink, and I think Rare has answered. Do you think they have gone too far, or haven’t gone far enough? I’d like to see what ship set thy have planned for it...
And the price tag...
The Dark Adventures Set
This is how its suppose to be.
The game needs to reverse its position on commendation farming and back to finding and turning in loot.
Gold is too easy to gather and the prices for things are incredibly low, especially with the introduction to Emissary flags.
This is a good thing and not only that, the skins look SIIIIIIICK.
Yeah, total price for what is available of the set currently is around 25,000,000 gold. This is a good thing. Gold is far too easy too come buy currently so this gives veterans something to save up for and buy. The new Silent Barnacle set was about 2.6 million and I think that was an excellent price for it.

I had about 12 million when I started today, so I just bought the cutlass (even though I like the Athena Cutlass a lot. Dark Adventurer will make a good alternative :) ), and while the Silent Barnackle isn't incredible on the outside, I was kind of amazed how it looks on the inside. So pretty colours :D
Eh, I'm kinda ambivalent.
I never really understood the need for a "gold sink". I like having my gold counter go up and up. It feels like another, personal cosmetic for my pirate. Wanting Rare to create something for the sole purpose of draining it always struck me as counterintuitive.
But that's just me, and I seem to be in the minority on the topic. At least now there's a super expensive set of gear for people to grind for and brag about. As long as they don't expect me to care, then we're all good. =P
@bonny-kraken
What would the requirements be though?
If it was just to make it to 50 in Reaper's, that seems kinda lame compared to Legend's 50 in three companies. And matching THAT wouldn't make sense lore-wise because why would the Reapers care about your standing with the trading companies.
Maybe give Reaper's three tiers of standing with 50 levels in each? That could lead to burn out though. I don't do Reaper's, so my ideas are a bit limited.
I imagine they would fall under "pirate legend" and basically be the same thing. As athena is a 20 legend elite trade company, there could be a similar one for the darker side.
Currently its athena or nothing for legends and the athena ideal is for pirates to work together. There is a large group of legends that wouldnt really appeal to - so a new path would be welcome.
@arctroopachedda I don't neccesarily think they went to far I crating items priced this high. None of what they created however is that unique or interesting, so it should not have been this set.

Yeah I'm in the same boat with my personal feelings on gold. I get enough outta just watching it rise.
I'm also someone that enjoys buying every single item in the game whether I like it or not so the last couple months have been mighty expensive but a lot of these newer cosmetics are on point and look great.
Personally I think Rare needs to add more repeatable gold sinks to the game. Things that pirates can more regularly spend their hard-earned gold on.
An example of one such system that I really enjoy is the different beverages you can buy from the bar in Deep Rock Galactic's social lobby: the Space Rig. Basically, you are given an extensive menu of beers with varying cosmetic effects, including one that immediately sobers your character up when drank.
Another would be paying gold to trading company representatives in order to immediately refresh their daily selection of voyages. With more voyage types being added to the game, I think it's important that players get a way to always find a voyage they want to go on.
Lastly, I think we should be able to pay the Shipwright to remove cosmetic damage to our ships; I'm not suggesting that all of the holes covered with planks get patched, but I would like at least a fresh coat of paint (IE getting rid of all the cannon hole textures on the exterior).
Personally for a gold sink I'd like to see maybe a singular really expensive item like a sword or an eyepatch for like 30+ mil gold. I mean I like the dark adventurer set, but I think one downside is that if you want to "flaunt your wealth" as Rare put it you really need to equip the whole set which then takes away from the individuality of your pirate and styling them the way you want. Yes you could choose to just equip certain items, but then showing that you had a whole ton of gold to spend goes away because for as far as anyone knows you only own the pieces you have equipped. However, if you have a singularly expensive item you solve that problem of being able to flaunt your wealth while also largely getting to keep your pirate looking however you want.
@blam320 I think that that is a good idea for ppl to spend gold on, except for the magic grog that sobers your character immediately because in some cases that would provide a competitive advantage.

i wish rare would somehow make a fully custom ship set that the player could change the colours and how the paint would look that would be pretty cool if they could
Yeah, that would be cool, but think of the horrors that people could make. Im shuddering in irl lol.@barry-klaus said in The Dark Adventures Set:
@xultanis-dragon how to get gold easily? gold hoarders emissary?
reapers emissary and do fleets and ashen lords.
fleets are in 2 areas and 1 of those areas is right by reapers. Easy way to hit 5 and you're very close to the place you sell. Tremendous source of loot and reapers will be 2.5x more for every single item
Ashen lords are very quick for an event and have decent loot.
Flameheart is very profitable but requires more skill to make it an efficient use of time
You can still make good gold doing vaults or shipwrecks with a max emissary if you can't complete events quickly
one thing to consider on gold hoarders is that (as of now) the bug preventing a lot of flag rep for picking up some items slows it down so at the moment I'd do events or merchant emissary and shipwreck voyages
Sell during gold rush times. Two hours a day with another 1.5x multiplier. Combined with a maxed emissary it's good gold
So does every other rep.
GH5, OoS5, MA5, (I haven't tried Athena at the moment), Reapers 5 - They all give the same bonus.
Also apparently the bonus' are still 2.5. It just didn't add the gold received from the item. The green portion used to have the TOTAL amount received from turning in loot+bonus=green portion, now it just has the total amount received from the bonus itself (just bonus). Its the same amount that you receive or so they say.
Last week
GH5
Selled chest for 1000 (+2500)R5
Selled chest for 1000 (+1500)Thats what it was last week.

I think they should make every dark adventure cosmetic half the price or have a month or two were all the cosmetics are low price because personally I think it is way to far
No point in bringing in a set entirely based around high roller peacocking and then be inconsistent on its significance
Even casual players and people that don't do high risk high reward stuff like reapers can pay for these items it just takes time and effort and efficiency. Taking advantage of gold rush times and double gold weekends just like those of us did that own the whole set. It might take longer but it'll be there waiting when people earn enough
