Steam Edition Crashing Immediately

  • I've had this issue with the Steam edition since Season 1 dropped. My game loads up the initial loading screen with the spinning wheel, and crashes immediately. Event log shows

I've been working with support on this, attempted all this under guidance from support with no luck:

    • Windows / Steam - Sea of Thieves crashing during gameplay – Sea of Thieves
    • Windows - Sea of Thieves is not Launching – Sea of Thieves
    • Steam - Sea of Thieves is not Launching – Sea of Thieves
    • https://www.seaofthieves.com/community/forums/topic/113686/game-crash-at-rare-screen-at-launch-help
    • Changing NAT type to Open
    • Opening official Xbox Live ports
    • Turning off IPv6 in router settings
    • Turning off Teredo in router settings
    • Sent memory dumps to the team
      Today support told me
Unfortunately, we've reached a point where we've exhausted all troubleshooting available.
Searching our articles and forums only provided explanations related to uninstalling antivirus software entirely (as opposed to bypassing) or uninstalling various pieces of audio software to resolve the issue. We can only advise to contact support.microsoft.com for more information.
So I appeal to the community, any ideas? Note this is only the Steam edition I also have the MS Store edition and it works great.

  • Assuming you've done the usual re-install and game repair.

Could try reinstalling Steam. Running the exe as admin, and turning off steam overlay?

  • @floofen1198 Did you try anything I suggested in your last thread?

  • @floofen1198 Try updating or uninstalling Visual Studio 2017. Your version of Windows 10 SDK (26624) is causing a conflict.

  • @d3adst1ck I did and it didn't work. Thank you though.

  • @bizi-betiko yikes. I don't have Visual Studio 2017 although this gives me some ideas. thank you!!

  • @floofen1198 If you recently installed Windows 10 20H2, I know that it has been causing game crashes when trying to run in full screen mode. Windows throttled this update because they knew there were issues with it. Here are a few things to try:

    From elevated command prompt:

    sfc /scannow

    dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

    Force cumulative update KB4601382

    Reinstall display device drivers

  • @d3adst1ck I didn't realize I had posted here twice! Mistake on my part I'm sorry. But I did try sfc. Thank you!
