Prestiging maxed company level

  • After maxing an emmissary, there's still a long way to go for the commendations. And to be frank, the only thing you end up grinding for, is gold, gold and more gold.

    Hence my idea; Create a prestige system in which we can reset our Company Level back to 1, and climb to 75 again, up to 5 times ( (I), (II), (III), (IV), (V) ). It comes with a couple of noteworthy points;

    • As part of current unlocks, the game still treats your Company Level as 75 (I).
    • Every time you prestige, the XP to gain levels keeps scaling up, meaning that Rank 1 (II) to 2 (II) will require more XP than 74 (I) to 75 (I).
    • When you prestige, as a reward your Sails reflect what prestige you are, since the sails by default unlock at 75. Every time you prestige, it becomes more prestigious. - In addition, every time you prestige, you unlock a new Faction-Themed outfit, starting with Boots (I), Gloves (II), Hat (III), Leggings (IV) and Body (V) in that order.
    • Levels may differ per faction, appropriate to what their current Maximum is.

    This way, people have something more to do than just grind for gold in generic or Best-Method means, and actually gain some more progress to show off with their ship or outfit.

  • @uri5718 so what would I do next week? this is no different than extending the level cap, its just an easy to grind number.

    It encourages you to do emmisary related objectives again rather than just the best available moneymakers, like how people are hoarding FOTD since its release, plus it creates an alternate objective that you can show off other than just plain gold.

  • Sorry, but I can't get on board with this. Prestige added into the Plunder/Battle Pass is just too much for call of the Sea Of Thieves of war. In other words, this should keep only with FPS games imo.

  • @uri5718 Your company levels =/= your emmisary rank. You're talking about 2 completely different things as if they were 1 and the same when they're not.

    Company level goes to a maximum of 75 (depending on the individual company, since some only go as high as 20 or 50); emmisary rank isn't even a thing. You've got emmisary levels, but those only go to 5. You also have emmisary ledger rank, but because it's leaderboard based, the sky is essentially the limit, split between 5 categories named for their individual companies. Also, not all companies have Emmisaries - the Hunter's Call is proof enough of this, as are the Sea Dogs, and the Bilge Rats.

  • @galactic-geek Yes, that was the word I was looking for, thanks. I've editted it appropriately.

    @BETRAYME84 I wasn't talking about the plunder/battlepass at all......

  • @uri5718 You're welcome!
    But I still think prestige options only promote grinding, which is the polar opposite of the game's intention - even the devs have gone out of their way to tell us, both in and out of game, that it's not about the grind.

  • @galactic-geek I mean, the 8-million each cosmetics, likewise for the tier 5 commendations, really does not back up that claim.

  • @uri5718 They added those high numbers at the request of the community, specifically because so many pirates over-grinded and needed an outlet to spend their high amounts of gold. Rare saw that as a compromise in order to keep pirates sailing so they wouldn't feel bored with nothing to work toward. Of course, there's plenty to work toward (just look at the amount of commendations), but good luck convincing pirates of that! Those pirates who got stuck really only have themselves to blame for trying to play the game too quickly instead of just enjoying it.

    Your method just extends the grind unnecessarily, so they would have even more gold that they wouldn't know what to do with.

  • @galactic-geek I mean, the grind is fully optional and only unlocks cosmetics, no commendations for completionists. I honestly don't mind getting GH up further than 75 because appearantly Emmisary Value resets...

  • look, i like the idea of extending trading companies, but i don't think redoing all the numbers is the way to go. I also think that making MORE tiers is also a bit of a stretch. And not a very high level of community members have reached 75 in any trading company. I feel the thing to focus on is making fun and engaging events, because sea of thieves needs more consistent players, not just more and more of the same thing, only good for people who play ALL the time
