I've been a Rare fan since the early 90’s and something that has always appealed to me about the company is the dedication to world building. Whenever Rare needs a gameplay mechanic they always give an in-universe reason why it exists. I’m not going to go through Rares backlog and name them all, but you can see this gameplay design in Sea of Thieves. When Arena launched, there was a backstory to its implementation and a physical Tavern added to the adventure map. When Rare wanted to experiment with new types of Voyages, they added the Bilge Rats faction specifically for that. When there is a server merge there is an in-universe message explaining what’s happening, even patch notes and updates now have an in universe way of being communicated.
I think the same needs to happen for the new Renown system. Currently it just kind of exists, but for me I would love to see a thing that ties it to the world. Maybe add a new character to every tavern, a bookkeeper who says they’re making notes of your journeys and will reward you handsomely. It doesn’t have to be much but that little something would go miles and miles to improve worldbuilding imo.
Renown needs an in universe explanation
@blam320 but with trading companies, there is an in universe explanation. There are characters that are part of those factions who take notice of your actions for their own companies

This is general and there is no need for a sot in universe explanation becase the word and its definition are bu itself explanatory

Good definition and worth thinking about. For me though, I'd like to know where the rewards are coming from? A mysterious stranger? Magic? Every other reward has an in game and in universe explanation, it seems odd that after nearly three years this one doesn't.

You're really overthinking things.
I do find it disappointing that, at launch there was a sense of everything needing to be tightly connected to lore, and part of a real in universe system, even if not fully realized yet. So to me it felt like the reason there wasnt more of this live service stuff at launch, was to take their time with it and really build it up connected to the lore and everything.
And then they just kinda drops seasons, here we go this is what we got. Its not anything special. But we finally realized we need more of this stuff.
