still generating ugly characters
who had this brilliant idea?
there is a fix amount of faces, bodies, hair and skin colors
i know what i want but getting it is like winning the lotto
so i will probably sit here another 10 years until i have the character that i could simply just put together in 1 minute

gotta love my morrowind barbies, oblivion barbies, skyrim barbies, cyberpunk barbies, titan quest barbies, tochrlight barbies, soul calibur barbies, sacred barbies, lineage barbies, aoin barbies, tera barbies...i guess this is the only game since the existence of gaming that knows how to handle character creation :vRare is well aware of what other games offer in character creation options.
The Infinite Pirate Generator is designed to get a lot of players out of thier usual comfort zone and consider a different kind of toon.
Whether you like it or not matters not, it is what we all have to work with.
It is the first indication that you should take your previous experiences from other games and throw that dead weight overboard.
You may need fresh eyes to see the intentions of the developers.Sometimes you find that unique character in five minutes, or it may take hours.
After about twenty minutes I take a break if they all start looking the same.
Also keep in mind, due to the bad tavern lighting and the different poses with the various items, your chosen character may look somewhat different in the bright daylight in-game. Sometimes a re-roll may be required.It is worth the effort.

Pirates that look like the lunch lady and John Candy in a wig with a fake mustache on make me laugh a joyous laugh
As lovely as Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson probably are I don't find it enjoyable to look at their cookie cutter cut outs.

Also would be nice to have multiple Pirates on the same account.
I went with a really ugly Pirate after 2 minutes of rolling because I didn't know you could only have one.
Problem is I already grew attached to the little guy and wouldn't delete him for the world.
It's kinda awkward when I'm playing with my GF.@u1435d5glv I don't care if we get a 2nd pirate, but if you want it...

I totally understand your point and I can confirm that not being able to get all content is frustrating.
I'm sure there would be better ways to make content rare other than make it available for a limited time only, I mean even farming it with terribly low chances might add something to the game, reward long time players and add replayability.But that should be discussed elsewhere. we agree that randomized ugly pirates are a good thing for more variety in the players looks and if you ask me the Developers did a great job with that.

But it is there to make you choose something you wouldn't normally choose. Also fun fact all of those games have mods that you can install to make actual barbies so please move on if you don't like the games art style 2 seconds in.

Hello Mr Xlii8179, first of all you have to realize that Sea of Thieves is a whole lot different than any other game you have played .The Character Creation is such a thing . This Infinite Generator spews out hundreds of thousends of Pirates with different shapes and faces . True , many Pirates look ugly but that is on purpose . It belongs to the Cartoony Style of this game, you will see this on the shapes of the shops as well. But , although it's cartoony , it isn't ridiculous...
What i find wonderful is that one Persons' drawing style has been mastered by the graphical team as all these faces can't be done by one man...
But as said before by other Pirates, this is some kind of timerobbing lottery but that too is fun, i searched twice several hours for my character , the first time i wasn't that happy as i saw more beautiful ( read uglier) characters than mine . So i deleted my Pirate and started anew...
The Sea Gods , who have granted me a lot in this game, were on my side that time , and never left me since. After 2 and a half hour i had found the Pirate i am still sailing with today... And what's better , he has grown on me . When Rare introduced that potion that one could drink for changing their Pirates without losing progress, money , cosmetics , there was no hair on my head that would change to a new Pirate...
So if you have a few hours spare than just keep rolling the Infinte Pirate Generator untill , and you will ,find your Pirates . The Uglier Pirates may outnumber the more handsome or Pretty Pirates but they are there ... Yes ,it takes time but it's time will invested as your Pirate will represent you in many upcoming ,Thrilling and Epic Adventures...
Good luck in Choosing , But Pirate ,one more thing . Choose with your Heart! And you will have many, many evenings of fun.

Not sure why this question has attracted such negative feedback? So what if the OP wants more custom character options? I for one would also like to see the same as it's a feature I really enjoy in a lot of other games. Do I myself think it harms the game in any meaningful waty, not really? But it does not deserve the "Barbie Simulator" comment, which I deem to be an absolute troll of a response....
The developers wanted people to pick characters that they would not normally make themselves. They didn't want it to be like other games
If you wanna be sexy in this game you have to earn it

@xlii8179 To add to what many have stated here, if you are in this game for the long haul, even if you aren’t completely happy with every aspect of your chosen character, you will definitely become quite attached to your character (imperfections and all) through all the adventures and experiences you have and would never think of changing the look with that Appearance Potion.

[Mod edit]Changing the beard and hair can massively improve a character, you just need to experiment with it mate.
I made some suggestions a long time ago about how it could be improved, such as an option to generate new characters based on favourited pirates in the carousel. I think that would be a good compromise.
But I wouldn't want the RNG completely removed as it adds character and variation to the seas. Otherwise it would just be a world of Jack Sparrow wannabes.

This is absolutely true. In fact, it's why I highly recommend buying out all of the vanity hair and facial hair cosmetics that you can from the get go - it allows you to better see what your new pirate could be.

I really just want them to add the ability to see the back and sides of your pirate - some may have scars or tattoos there that you cannot see until after it's already chosen.
A solution to that would be to be able to rotate the character on the "are you sure?" screen... maybe have that confirmation prompt off to the side and zoom in a bit on the model.
@xlii8179 SoT does leave a lot to be desired when it comes to character customization and cosmetics, which seems a little hard to understand for a cosmetics-only game..
Just wait until you get in and you realize that many shirts/pants are only offered in 1 colorway.

I'm not disagreeing with you at all. Was more just saying that I felt the attacks on the idea were a bit unwarranted.And I can't complain about the character creator too much myself as I've already admitted to growing attached to him in just a matter of hours!

This game is literally cosmetics-only — so this kind of is a "Barbie Simulator" when it comes to games already... And still not enough options I don't think 🤣🤣
@thagoochiestman To be fair, you can still have Pirate Barbie - you just have to really work for it. Turn your ugly duckling into a swan if that's your thing. But me? My pirate's been places. He's seen things... 😖

@xlii8179 ok. u choose a BUILD, and then add to your character. There are a variety of costumes, so your pirates features matter little. You can become a ugly pirate, or a hot pirate. But that depends on your hair and outfits, not your build. also, if u want a cool pirate, go for a strong/slim build
