80 percent of servers I have tried to join in the last 2 weeks are either TDM groups who will all work together to spawn camp you until you leave the server or guys who claim to be banned by Rare and spawn camp ships and grief. How in the world am I to level up Sea Dogs when it takes 25 minutes to find a match and its almost always griefers/tdm'ers?

@hoasche I haven’t played Arena mode in some time as I wasn’t a big fan of Arena 2.0. It’s sad to hear that’s what you’ve been encountering while attempting to play and advance your commendations. I imagine you’re pretty frustrated. Keep trying a few matches every day and you might grab a server where everyone is ACTUALLY playing the way Arena was designed to be played.
I could see the natural shift of the player tendencies in the original Arena mode as well. As soon as players achieved their wins, they shifted to working on the various weapon kills and wins no longer mattered. Spawn camping became common place.

How in the world am I to level up Sea Dogs... its almost always griefers/tdm'ers?Spawncamping may be causing you grief, but it is not "griefing" in this game. If you don't want to be camped, scuttle or learn to take better precautions so that you do not get boarded.
I board quite a bit, and if a crew is competent enough, it is always a struggle to get up that ladder. I often have to ladder-juke or rely on team mates to support me with cannon fire. Even then, I take damage on the way to the anchor, if I'm not immediately one-blundied. My point is: you have an advantage over the boarder. Stay sharp, listen for audio cues, look for mermaids and guard your ladder.
Now, the reasons I board are for PvP practice, or to help friends with weapon commendations, or when people interrupt a TDM.
An easy way to not get camped by TDMers is by staying away from them. You asked how you're supposed to level up Sea Dog. Try going for the chest or naval-battling ships that aren't unattended and parked at a fort.

Arena is only good for combat training.
I grinded to master and was done by the time they added sloop Arena.
IMO they should've just left galleonplay only, with drops into live ongoing matches.Now it is something different and no longer subject to updates.
But you can still get paid to train in Arena.
If you are the only ship going for the chest while everyone else is tdming how are you losing or being spawn camped? You should be winning every match!
Let's be honest here you tried going over to sink their ships while they were on the island tdming thinking that it would be easy until they boarded and spawn camped you the rest of the match.
@hoasche dont know if gal is different but people who tdm are usually chill if you dont hunt them down to attack them. If you attack tdmers who are minding their own buisness then get farmed because you broke the tdm rules and get mad at the forums and make a post you are very bad. Dont attack people who are parked at a fort unless you want to lose that game.
@hoasche spawn camping is totally fine, however although not officially stated people have been banned in th past for teaming in arena so if a TDM lobby is ganging on you and you only just report them for teaming. 🤷♂️
@theblackbellamy i dont mind one team trying to spawn camp me and yes scuttling is an option I use sometimes but I am talking multiple teams ganging up on one team to grief them even if its not my team. No mechanic learning necessary.
@flintlock-dan um no... I have multiple accounts lvl 50+ in arena. A common thing in tdm servers is for the whole server to gang up on one team to get them to leave to open up the server for a friend trying to get in. Im not 100 percent annoyed at tdm, I get it. Maybe rare makes a creative server for those who want to do tdm Im talking about people who only want to grief
@one-eyed-curly no...? I have multiple accounts at PL and adventure mode is usually spent server hopping for 30 minutes to find multiple emissaries to sink. Im not talking about adventure I am talking about arena where in my recent two weeks I have heard multiple racial slurs from people bragging that theyve been banned by RARE and teammup to grief my team or others. TDM does annoy me as well because most times even if youre not navaling and just getting chest the server will grief you to get a friend in the same server.

I talk to the guys and say Ill stay out of the way (im not an idiot) but most of the time the players want another tdm team or a friend to get in on the same server so the entire server will grief you. 8 players greifing one sloop. Im not just speaking for my experience. 1) Someone shouldn't have to play by the rules of some TDM content creator to play the game 2) 6-8 players griefing one sloop/spawn killing, spewing racial slurs telling them to leave the server because they want someone else in is a problem and its VERY common. The competition in arena is either pure boredom where I feel bad like Im playing adventure or toxic people bragging theyve been banned so many times...

Sadly recent events have brought forward a lot of division in the community about the future of this game mode so I felt that I should respond in it's defense. For me the commendations have always been secondary to the competitive challenge of Arena with greater challenges only adding to that enjoyment. I do hope that your experiences improve and if there are any specific offenders then perhaps you should report them.

Are you really saying that most servers are TDM takeovers?
I'll grant you that in most servers nowadays, you'll find at least 1 person hopping for TDMs. And I will grant you that camping to clear the last non-TDM ship does happen sometimes, albeit rarely.
Most times, you are not going to find 4 ships TDMing. So most times, I'm not sure how you're getting 8v2 camped.
Also seems weird that they agreed to leave you alone in the lobby, and then camped you when the match started. Did they not ask for your ship before camping you?

Then don't. Find a new lobby. It would make both you and the TDMers happy if you did. They get their server, you can go for the chest or naval in another one.

Ah, another instance of conflating PvP with toxicity. In the last 6 months, I have 14 clips of people typing or yelling racist things while I was spawncamping their ship.
People can be toxic, and you should absolutely report them when they are. But shoehorning this into the rest of your argument doesn't help you.
I think one thing we can agree on is that Rare should issue more windows/hardware bans for racism & other forms of hate speech.
As for the TDM takeover issue, until Rare releases private servers, we can only rely on the chance that we will queue up 5 ships together, or the chance that a crew will give up their ship to close out the server.
Never understood spawn camping "for practice" how are people practicing if they are even fighting back.
4v4 camping is not good practice. 1v4 camping with pistol+sniper against 4 blundy bois certainly can be.
If I'm camping with crewmates, it's not for practice anyway. It's either to help them with weapon commendations, or to camp a ship that interfered in a TDM.

@one-eyed-curly no worries, my mistake as well. Toxic gaming isnt foreign to me. I have years of CS and other prox com games under my belt. Maybe I am getting severely unlucky but I have heard anti-semitism, racism, sexism, and all sorts of hate speech in the past 4 days in arena TDM lobbies.
@ajm123 im with you. takes verrry little skill to blunder someone as soon as they drop down in spawn. This is keeping new players away from the game especially with a lack of SBM.

So far my arena experience has been hit or miss when it comes to hate speech. One lobby will remind me of CoD with an overwhelming amount of immaturity being spewed from the mics of everyone or close to everyone. OR super friendly super competitive sailors who give respectful comments and always "GG".
Very rare to find a lobby mixed with both, perhaps because the respectful ones leave and find a new lobby. 🤷♂️

multiple accounts in areana at 50 is not impressive, win 15 games during double rep weekend? wow so impressive. ive never had a tdm team attack me unless i attack them first. I never TDM but the people who do it are very chill. all they want is to be left alone.

I miss old Arena. It felt so much more fun and the stakes were higher, cause any ship could be carrying chests. It actually felt like what it was meant to be, a condensed version of Adventure. Digging up loot and then fighting to get it back.
@isaacmarteen13 we do closed. Whats interesting is we THOUGHT sloop would be less tdm because there was so much galleon tdm. Its been about the same or more. The greifers/racism in sloop is what led me to post this discussion.
@hoasche that’s odd because I do closed sloop and I get the odd hacker every 10 or so games and some toxic people, but other than that it seems bearable
