zone for afk ships?

  • Hi, I was wondering maybe you guys could put up a feature for AFK ships?
Me being new to the game and had to look after a ship of a friend who went to get dinner and had alot of treasure on the ship. I was alone on our sloop, and then a gallion appears out of nowhere attacking it.

I know it is part of the game but it's just so not nice if the crew is AFK to just steal from them then. It would be nice if there is an AFK zone for ships who's crew are not there so they don't have to stress too much?

    Thanks.

  • "No safe zones only danger zones" - Captain Kenny Loggins

  • @karmi3 The issue here is your friend leaving. Don't play sessions around dinnertime unless you're going to eat while sailing.

  • If your whole crew must go afk you could park your ship all the way in the top left of the map just to the left of Smugglers Bay behind some of those large rocks so your ship is hidden and out of the way. This will of course not work if you have a reapers flag, chest, or emissary though since they can obviously see you on the map.

  • Get the shores of gold tall tale and sit up there almost no one ever goes that way.

  • If you know you have to leave for a minute or 10, you sell whatever you're afraid of losing.

If they added safe zones, that would be abused and used in the wrong way indented.

For example, you are being chased by another ship and they almost got you a few times, and then you just sail into the safe zone.. Then they are just chilling on the outside of the zone waiting for you to come out. Then it's all about who's got the most time on their hands.

There are 7 Outposts that you could go to at any time. Sell whatever you don't wanna lose and if you don't want to leave the server due to amounts of supplies and such, sail your ship to the outskirts of the map and anchor it behind some rocks.

There is a place to afk. It's called going to sell and leaving the game.

  • @capt-soul-beard not sure if you know what AFK means then.

  • @karmi3 I know AFK means, Away From Keyboard. I was just mocking your silly plea for a way to stay protected

  • @capt-soul-beard Got it, nice joke. I giggled.

I dont think the idea is a good one either but you dont have to be a jerk about it. Be better.

Anyway, definitely the tricks previously posted work, but if you are not going afk when your partner on the sloop another option for when you are more comfortable with the map is to simply load up your rowboat and go do a stealth turn in.

The reason ideas like this wont work is the potential for exploiting is high, which will leave both sides of the arguement with a game they are dissatisfied with. The options are basically to always have pvp or never have pvp. And of those two, the option to always have it allows for much more engaging gameplay for everyone. Once you do enough sailing you are pretty much guaranteed success in the pve realm, it's the tension in having an unknown quantity i.e. the other player that brings people back and makes each time you load in different

  • I don't believe Rare should develop any method to extend Afking in this game. That may sound unreasonable to you at first, but hear me out. This game already has a limited amount of server space, there can only be so many ships on a server at a time. By you afking, that means that is one slot occupied and with that occupied slot that means one less ship to interact with the other players on this server. At the heart of this game, its a social experience whether it is for a fight or a combined force.

Had the game had more slots, I wouldn't really have a problem. However, with the limited space we do have, its quite easy to make a server have the appearance of being dead.

    You're right, I should've been better. Sorry @Karmi3

  • OK 10/10 for best trolling in long time. FYI best AFK zone is to park at Reapers Hideout and raise Reapers Emissary. 90% of ships will stay clear in 2 square radius, 10% would be eating dinner as well.

@Karmi3 a Legend of Troll in game title has been added to your equipment chest. :)

  • @jadescissors32 Sorry? I wasn't trolling. I was genuinely just asking for advice or a way to avoid getting an AFK ship destroyed..

  • @karmi3 Why keep the treasure on board if you know you have to head out for dinner? Sail to an outpost, cash in... once you have nothing to really lose, it doesn't matter that you are sunk or not.

Alternatively you as the defender should be paying more attention to the horizon, ships do not appear out of nowhere and simply sail away. If you are good at sailing you can avoid being caught even when solo.

Play smart? There is no penalty to selling more frequently.

  • You want a safe place to park with loot on your ship? Oh yeah that wont be abused at all.

A Galleon does not just appear out of no where. The Galleon is the free willy of ships. That thing isnt sneaking up on nobody.

I sail a gally now and then with three cool pirates. Two of them were disconnected from a storm. It was just me and my fellow crew mate left on the Gally with loot while in a storm with the definition of a super slooper duo behind us. We were in midst of fighting three sloops, two sunk right before the disconnect and the third had left but came back right after. Anyways low on supplies and only two on the gally and in a in game storm we made it all the way to an outpost with that super slooper duo tailing us. Remember that @bloodybil ?

Moral of story? Sometimes AFK happens at the worse times and you need to do best to deal with it. Your case the AFK was a choice, next time your friend wants to eat maybe they can cash in first or atleast get to an outpost then go eat while you sell? Also be on look out more, like I said the free willy of ships does not appear out of nowhere.

Fun times! But yeah, like others have said there is no logical reason to not just sell before dinner just in case. If anything, people can hug some rock formation to try to hide, and hope for the best.

    Lesson learned for next time!

  • They could do like a passive mode for people to opt into. They could charge. I might even pay if it's in game gold or blue coin. One hundred thousand gold for six hours? would that be enough time to recoup losses? Maybe twenty four hours and an option to cancel if your so inclined to? Would be bought by one player but cover whole crew. That would be easier than a special designated place right? I could do that for weeks with all the gold I've been hoarding.

  • Grab the shroud breaker and head to shores of gold. You could literally sit there for hours and you'll unlikely see another ship.

... Or just don't play with filthy casuals.😁
