Stats

  • Hey I just had a question if y’all kept like stats on like how many players you’ve killed, how many players ships taken down. Just general stats like that. Oh and y’all should definitely make an app for phones that would be cool.

  • @battle-devil I would advise against this. Player stats tend to generate a split in the community of multiple types of players and ultimately causes friction among everyone.

The elitist where KDR means everything and talk as if its the end all be all.

The people who are bad at PvP but good at support end up being talked down too and ostracized because of their low kdr.

The players who are average or even those who have bad states being completely shunned and treated as garbage.

The fact that this game doesn't track those stats is one of the things I like about it. All stats do is give people a reason to stroke their internet egos.

Leave it as is or we will definitely have the community split up even more than it already is. It'll form even more cliques, and then we'll have to deal with people who post their stats while replying to posts as if their stats made their opinions more valid.

"What do you know noob, you only have a 0.8 kdr while I'm sitting on 3.0 kdr, YOU NOOB you can't talk to me because I'm so much better than you are." - I've noticed that stats cause people to be more toxic. So again I say NO

Just in case you thought I didn't mean it - I say nay nay - No - Please No - Dear god no

  • SoT is not a competitive game, and was not designed to be one. It was designed for the whole family to enjoy as per Joe Neate. It offers a wide variety of players and is specifically designed for open sandbox type of game play. The fact that there are no progressions or stat enablers, or skill growth other than what you learn as an individual should tell you it is not designed for that. The PvP in the game was meant more as an organic thing, something that happens while in the immersion of the game.

Now that being said, we will soon have Arena. A game mode that by its very design will encourage PvP encounters. While killing everyone will not be how you win the Arena, holding the most treasure at the end is how you win, it will encourage that PvP in its own organic way. I suspect that with it, you might see some stats that are recorded. But we won't know until it gets launched. Even then, they will probably continue to tweak it as they go along, much like the current game play has been tweaked on a steady basis.

  • Those kind of stats may come with The Arena. Rare may surprise everyone and not turn it into another generic cookie cutter PvP experience without such numbers and charts. If they do, it will be what Sea of Thieves is not.

It still would be nice to have a ship log in our ships to see what we have done on our voyages. A nice summary after each session. It opens up as a page in the log as a quill stops writing when you log out. Can go back to the ship log to see everything across our many voyages. Problem is Rare did not save a lot of data. So, stats would be missing things up to the Shrouded Spoils.

  • Yeah I understand all of yalls thoughts. For me PvP is rarely what I’m looking for when I play Sea of Thieves but I’ve sunk a bunch of people and killed a lot so I was just curious of how many was all lol.

If stats were put into the game you would see nothing but must have this kdr in the looking for group posts which would suck for people wanting to join to have fun and play with others.

  • yeah when you will do that because its can be very interesting
