5 ships For sea of theives

It was a real thing.......google is your friend
I didn't say it wasn't real buddy, only that it wasn't an actual SHIP TYPE. It was an expression. People would call a huge or powerful ship a "Man O' War".
"The man-of-war (pl. men-of-war; also man-o'-war, or simply man) was a Royal Navy expression for a powerful warship or frigate from the 16th to the 19th century."
-WikipediaPerhaps you should take your own advice about google...
@stevent2002 I want a Man O War because I have more than 3 friends that want to play every now and then. I'd love to be able to play as a 5 man crew. And yes, a crew of 5 or 6 SHOULD beat a crew of 2. It shouldn't be balanced.
@stevent2002 It should be as balanced as possible, I agree, but that doesn't mean every fight should be a 50/50 chance. In a 6v2 in any game, the group with 6 players will usually win every time. Why should this be any different?
@stevent2002 said in 5 ships For sea of theives:
youre asking for the majority of the playerbase to have an awful experience just so you and a group of friends can play?
What are you on about? Majority of the playerbase? Awful experience? How often do you come across an efficient Galleon crew in adventure? It's pretty rare, even more so to get a crew of 6 efficient players all together. And yes, I'm not sure why this is a hard concept to grasp, but the smaller crew, that has a weaker ship, and less firepower, and less crew members, should not usually win against the big tanky ship with more cannons and crew members.
Also, the sloop can ALWAYS escape. Dead wind and sail off.
They can absolutely balance a 6 crew ship. In relation to how all other ships are balanced it is easy.
Galleon has 3 masts, 2 turns per side of the helm, 4 cannons each side, 1 deck below water line and one above, currently the slowest ship into the wind and fastest with full tail wind.
Man-o-war would need: 4 masts, 3 turns per side of helm, 6 cannons each side, 2 decks below water line and 1-2 above, the new slowest ship into the wind and matches the galleon with full tail wind.
They would also need to give it water filling balance that would require 2-3 crew to board and bucket given more than 1-2 holes.
The issue is Rare has studied crew sizes and determined anything more than 4 starts to lose the feel for a tight knit crew they wanted for the game. Could you imagine 6 people trying to efficiently coordinate in this game during battle? It is hard enough for most crews with 4 which is why galleons are a fairly rare sight (1 per server at most for me last few months) and to me as a usual solo Reaper, the easiest targets.
I largely agree with @stevent2002, @mferr11. Sorry. Sloops can't always run away, because even when creating distance, they can still be followed, observed, and blockaded. Besides, wind direction has a tendency to change every once in a while.
Also, assuming crews are evenly matched? No such thing, because there is always a bigger fish.
@KommodoreYenser You can't just balance everything by numbers - if it was that easy, Rare would have done it already. The feel has to be good too. If doing something like raising an anchor or turning a sail takes too long, pirates are going to get bored quickly and jump overboard!
Hello Sir , i like the work you have done with those schematics ( * Whahahaaa , you had to search that word hey, George ? You see , leaving the Forum for a while doesn't improve that halfbaked English of you ...Moron) and i stand next to you for pleading extra ships ... Why not ? The more types the merrier i once learned but ... As a Pirate that likes to repair and bail , i fear that the Man o War will rip my knees appart from doing many staircases ... Wonder how long it takes to bail out water from the lowest hold.
Maybe...They could introduce some kind of pump for the lowest level...@stevent2002 said in 5 ships For sea of theives:
@kommodoreyenser its not about the ship itself. its about the crew size. galleon is significantly stronger for the simple fact its a 4 player ship. its not hard for them to send 3 players over to a sloop to spawn kill and at that point it doesnt matter how slow the galleon turns, because the sloop crew is not getting out of the spawn kill. also doesnt help that galleon is the only ship you cannot sink if youre too close since you have to hit the bottom deck to actually fill the ship up with damage
I always keep my distance when fighting galleons until I know they have repair pressure on them. This will happen even faster if they shoot over 3 people to try and board. At distance it is easy to avoid boarders by turning out of reach. Super easy to hear them cannoning over. If one does manage to grab my ladder, 99% of the time they get one blundered once they reach the top of my ladder.
Keeping distance also allows you to hit those lower deck shots.
My checklist for hitting galleons solo also includes having at least 1 ballast ball.
If you are trying to avoid a galleon trying to engage you, that is easy and everyone knows how. Into the wind and board the chaser to anchor them and gain distance. If you have stuff to sell, just drive-by sell for a bit once there is 30seconds of space and you are good.

Hence my last point in my post, Rare didn’t like how larger crews “felt” to play so this will likely never happen.
What my Crew mate and I do when we are outnumbered: looking for NPC help. Like sailing with Flamehearts fleet if he is around. Most galleons won't follow you.
One day we were tracked by a galleon and managed to sink them with the help of a skellie galleon which showed up. Sure NPCs will shoot at you too but with a good amount of planks and a good team its hard to get sunk with a sloop imo. (at least if we weren't boarded cause we suck in close PvP lol)For OP: I also like the work you have done. Maybe someday there will be more ships or bigger ships in the game. Would be cool for diversity.... but still I am solo/duo so I will stick to the best ship in game - the Sloop :)
I feel these new ships need to be implemented for testing. Like the brig these new ships will help breathe new life into the game. New ships, new strategies, more variety on the ocean.
If they're not gonna give us more primary weapons, why not more ships?
While they're at it they should test the addition of two more ships in adventure mode.

You'd first need to increase the server cap limit if you want all those ships to be used without it feeling like an empty ocean.
I agree, they should add two more ships per server. Add more life to the game.
How this thread hasn't garnered more attention is confusing.

i really dont get the obsession people have with getting a man o war into the game.
Ignoring the rest of your post because those are tuning issues not group size issues.
The reason people want the Man-o-War to be part of the game simply amounts to not all of us are solo players and actually have friends we would like to play with but cannot because the ship size is too small, so in turn we are forced to exploit the game to get all of us on a single map to play together.
You read that correctly we exploit to get our friends on the same map right now, and no there is really nothing rare can do to stop this.
@galactic-geek But you know it’s not about the principle of having 5 ships right. People upvoted the post not because he suggests 5 ships, that in itself is not cool, I feel like I shouldn’t even have to say this. It’s because of the ships he suggested. I think the new ship that isn’t the Man O War would be a great addition to the game.

Although the "Man O' War" Was never a real ship type. It was an expression used to refer to a ship of great size, or power.

Was never a real ship TYPE. Are you seriously this dumb? Drunk and sad? I don't drink buddy. Why don't you crawl back into your mom's basement buddy cuz you obviously don't know what you're talking about. If you could even read you would see I said ship TYPE. I never, ever said it wasn't a real ship.
I agree with all the ships although the brig with 3 people is plenty keep that the same just make people choose between ships more strategically!
Speed VS. Turning
Speed vs Cannons
Turning vs CannonsMake the game for optional and create a sense of fear if you see a Man o' war coming across the horizon!
I definitely like this 'blueprint' idea for new ships but since the game is already processing a lot, i don't think this will work (especially the Man o' war).
It's now getting ridiculous with the amount of people saying they want a new ship like a "Man o' war" or a 'Frigate' in this game, it's probably not going to happen sometime soon but if so, i would be surprised.
Not to mention, open crew! The amount of people that will be held on the 'Man o' war' will be out of hand.Sorry but i disagree!
Was a real ship, maybe you should dust off the Dorito crumbs from your chest and keyboard look it up so sad.
