The Harpoon Zipline

  • I’m not sure if this has been mentioned before, apologies if so.

Have any of you ever imagined using a harpoon line as a zipline?
For instance - I’m solo slooping on a massive island and I dock my ship. I then harpoon on a highpoint above where I plan to stack some loot. After obtaining said loot, I’m able to pick it up and then zip down my harpoon line.

    Lets do it.

  • That would be a really cool idea actually. Would require insane amount of testing spidersloop cough cough but yeh sound like a cool idea

  • Definitely not a new idea - it's actually about 2-3 years old.

Why isn’t it in the game then )’:

That is not a question that is meant for me. Try asking Rare.

    Where is it Rare?! Lol.

Results, on my desk, next monday.

  • @alcatraz6 giving people an easier way to board would be a bad idea in the current meta. As it is, boarding is already used excessively

Oh my goodness you’re a genius. I didn’t even think of this benefit. So if I’m solo sneaking and another player has their harpoon line set somewhere to zip down - I would be able to zip down the line with their loot and either tuck or steal their boat/ rowboat. Or even disengage their harpoon and allow my crew to sail up and wreck them after trolling their convenient getaway.

Are you worried about a Galleon rolling up and zip lining onto your ship? Maybe we could counter act that issue with the zipline only being an option if the ship is anchored? Or maybe it’s “too dangerous” to zipline out on the bucking waves and player character just get hurtled off into the sea if they attempt to zipline in such a scenario? Hmm.

  • @alcatraz6 no just saying that in the current meta boarding is easy and making it easier isnt the best idea. I would rather more things that encourage cannon fights than seeing more TDM players that have little regard for their ship.

You aren’t wrong but I feel like boarding was crucial back in the day. As well as this game. I usually sail in a manner where they’re able to get 1 or 2 boarders over to my ship then my crew and I will handle that and progressively hop onto cannons after we feel secure. I definitely understand the concern though. Larger ships trying to zipline down to the smaller ships- basically allowing a spawn killing frenzy to ensue. Not all pirates can counter the board. It wouldn’t be fun. We need to think of a way to counter act that issue. Although zipline bording would be kind of cool. Maybe there could be a zipline harpoon gun found randomly in the world, 1 time use ordeal.

    Its getting complicated.

Edit: Dang it I need a mod to make my rank as permanent Rogue. Because that’s what I am. Off topic haha.

  • To counter the ease of boarding ships these harpoon grapples could have limited uses and could also be found as a loot item washed up on a beach.

You can sell them to the tavern or you can get a few uses from it before it inevitable falls apart from rotting in salt water for months.

This way, not ever ship or crew member will have these meaning ship to ship battles are still a thing.
But it also means that occasionally you could plan a proper heist, climb up a mountain to infiltrate a parked ship. Perhaps even tuck be hanging off the side of the ship!

Imagine, being attached to outside of the ship. They think you got mermaid but you didn't. 🤔😉

  • @daringclarky seems reasonable
