hi would it be possible to add shield protection to the crows nest so your explosives and mega barrels cant be sniped straight away and blow the boat up. i mean let us grab some wooden planks and hammer them into the crows nest for some extra protection creating a shield, ofcourse these wooden shield planks can be shot and knocked off revealing the barrels to be shot, and it can be patched back up with wood. if this were to happen i wouldnt be scared to carry xplosives in the crows nest as i could patch a little shield for some protection. like i said the wooden shield can be sniped or shot off revealing the barrels to shoot.

@x-h-y-p-r-x firstly, no to that idea. Completely unnecessary and taking kegs of any kind are supposed to come with the danger of them getting set off.
Secondly, in case you were not aware, the crows nest is the second worst place to store kegs, #1 is below deck. You want to put them all the way out on the bowsprit, especially if you are solo. Reason being, if they detonate, they will do minimal damage and also not kill your crew when they blow. Sure they can be sniped but the only place they won’t (below deck) is also the most dangerous thanks to cannon hits setting them off and giving you a bunch of holes and possibly killing a good part of your crew.
Stack the barrels at the very middle of the crows nest and place chests all around the inner railing, it will prevent hits.
@bloodybil I always have mixed feelings about sharing stuff like that. On one hand, I want to help. On the other, I am making it harder on myself when I come across folks who take my advice.

I refuse to carry kegs anymore since the fire update just for this reason.
I been storing my kegs in the crow nest since the start and pretty much anytime they have blown up it was my own fault like sailing through a storm, a volcano, accidentally shooting one. I notice many pirates do not even think of snipping the crows nest. Sometimes I have like 10 of those babies up there. I dont mind though when they blow up, just get the mast back up, patch up, put out the fire and go get more.
No shields , them being so dangerous is what makes them so much fun.
If you aren't good you want kegs to be able to be sniped just as much as good players
Countless times unskilled people have been able to get out of a pickle by sniping the crows of a skilled crew
Spend time getting good leading with the sniper it will get you out of more trouble than it will cause
Kegs buy you time to either put holes in them while they repair or give you a little more time to escape and even good crews will put them up there.
The banishing of wall bang already took out a lot of the fun of crow kegs anyway

Just want to add. At one point you couldnt even take damage to the mast. People would store them in the nest because even when they blew up it did nothing.
Now that you cant just shoot through the floor anymore you essentially have your "armor" because before the nest was permeable.
Like they said though, just put chests around it. The nest is honestly still used to store kegs because of habit. Unless you really intended to use them. Don't take them. Fire bombs makes them so much harder to manage.
As for the bow idea... Idk... Unless they changed it, if a keg blast touches you boat its 4 holes. And if youre stowing several "even if that isn't true anymore and they do like 1 hole at minimum range." Its still gonna tear your boat up. Why not let the mast take the hit instead of several holes?
@socialkira The blast radius causes damage to the lower levels depending on the size of the ship. Thats why a reg keg wont do much of any damage to the bottom deck of a Gallion.

Let me ask differently because I dont understand. How come say a cannon ball shot can blow up the keg in the middle of lower deck sloop? I thought I was being wise putting it below because of crows nest sniping, and it just blew up my ship from cannon ball shots lol.@kommodoreyenser so... Bow is terrible for solo. Just tested on all boats. Puts 4 holes in the sloop. However it does work on the brig and gally.
@naynayso19 and... do you get hurt on the wheel when it blows? Do you lose your mast? Storing them below or in the crows nest is surely worse.
Solo, the two worst things you can have happen in a fight with someone, is losing your ability to move and being dead when your ship has holes/ is in a position to be boarded.

Exactly, powder kegs are now a waste of time and more detrimental to your ship rather than any other threat.@karloss00 I agree, haven't been carrying them since fire was added. Too much liability. Learned to just be a sniper with cannons and haven't missed carrying kegs though.

It has an area of effect on impact which permeates to the center of the lower deck on a sloop.
