@MK-RAW
I feel your pain, I really do. I have felt exactly the same way; at one point I stepped away from SoT for months in a rage-quit of epic proportions (for me anyway, lol).
And I don't have anything against PvE servers, for those that want them. That is my opinion, but please let us not derail this thread into yet another pvp versus pve echo chamber.
Let's talk about the game as it is and how to maximise enjoyment of a game I think is unique and fun. @KommodoreYenser and @COMBATxKITTY have already given some great advice. Here's mine in bullet form:
1: Watch The Horizon Like A Hawk. Enemy ships are usually pretty easy to spot and avoid, or attack if you feel like it.
2: Assume Everyone Is Hostile. Guilty until proven innocent is really the motto of the day on the Sea, I'm afraid.
3: Use The Scuttle Ship Option. If you are getting griefed, don't be afraid to scuttle your ship and start afresh somewhere else. Alternatively, you can server-hop. I know many players will see this as a 'cowardly' way out, but stuff that. If you are being spawn-camped or repeatedly abused by the same pirates, simply leave and find somewhere else to have fun.
4: Never Sail Alone. This game is much, MUCH easier if you play with some else, and there are many groups that actively seek new members and will be happy to have you.
5: Remember - Being Sunk, Killed And Robbed Is Not Toxic. In fact, it is a core game mechanic. Expect to get sunk, killed and robbed often when you first start playing. This game is PvEvP, and you should expect conflict with other players. It is part of the game and part of what adds spice to the PvE.
With a bit of time, practice and some good crewmates, I have found that the PvP aspect of this game is part of what makes it so rewarding, and I am primarily a PvE-player. Beating a marauding pirate at their own game is hella fun. Sometimes, if I get targeted while carrying treasure, I like to race to an outpost, turn in all my treasure, then head to the Tavern for a tankard of grog. Sure, most of the time the marauders will sink my ship, kill me and sometimes go digging for salt. But occasionally, the other crew will join me for a drink and that's when this game really shines, for me anyway.
I hope you stick with the game, fair winds to ye!
