Spawn killed repeatedly by double gunners, not even a second on the boat. The guy asked are you salty - of course I’m salty. Didn’t ever hear anyone call Will Turner a swordspammer. No, I don’t have the -aim to keep up with the “meta” of the game. Makes it very unfair to those who just like the pirate-feel of boarding ships and having classic pirate battles. Those that double gun aren’t there just for the pirate feel, they’re there cause they are PVP hungry. They just want to board your ship and kill you repeatedly. A guy told me to just scuttle my ship, as if that’s a good option. Much appreciated on increasing sword damage, but it’s still not enough. What kind of pirate doesn’t carry a sword at all times?! I’m an og player who paid full price at preorder for the game and the thing I hate about it the most is how much I love the game. I can’t seem to give the game up no matter how much I get frustrated at the changes and the exploits. Please, Sot team - if you’re not just in it for the money and in it for the real pirate feel, make some changes and drastic ones.

I will have to say, as someone who switched to double gunning like 8 months ago, I am starting to agree with this option. however, only if they revert the changes on the sword. I think the 25 damage is too much if its going to be mandatory. They can fix a lot of other things with it too but thats for another thread. don't get me wrong double gunning is pretty fun but it is OP (even without the exploit). people cant even heal fast enough before eating another bullet and dying... plus personally I think sword combat is more fun. you have to stay on your toes and outplay your opponent.
I’ve honestly have given up hope on them figuring their own game out. The combat is to arcade shooter not enough classic pirate. It’s all pirates jumping around with guns.
I just play for the theme. Hopefully they can come up with a more balanced combat system.
Honestly if they make the reloading time double on the guns it would probably change the entire combat flow.
Also had the idea that you always have a cutlass and flintlock. The blunderbuss and EoR are pickups found in the world. On death you drop them.
I'm getting in more pvp fights lately and I'm noticing more times then not I'm dying before I even see my enemy. Whether its double gunning...instablunder... blunder slashing etc and yea yea "be aware of your surroundings and get better at pvp" comments aside the whole thing is a bit op.
I was thinking of ways to improve this and I came up with 2.
One would be a universal health boost..everyone has more health but weapon damage remains the same..blunders hurt like a mother but they wont one shot you. Guns and swords require more strategy and there is actually time to eat and heal if you play your cards right. To keep the game the same all npc will do more damage in unison with the boost so they are still a threat. This will allow fights to drag out slightly longer and stop most of the fussing over spawn killing, double gunning etc because the enemy cant instantly get the upper hand and kill you before you even know what's going on.
The other is the opposite..nerf all weapons equally. They all drop in damage output...skelle and other npc drop in health etc.
Turn the tables to actual pvp. If your good, you win. Right Now its whoever hits first or gets a lucky shot off wins lol there is no skill to blundering someone in the face or sword stunning them so they can't move or run
i support that, and its not about tools or a diiferent combat style loadout stuff.
Its about make it balanced and make it not a shooter game, because many shooter gamers are not aproaching it playfull, but want to own and trashtalk and i dont want these jerks to be around and have the game as much as possible not attractive for these kind of gamers.ttk needs to be highly increased for PvP, fights should last longer, they should be about positioning and only few shots if ever.
Reloading should take more time, killing another player should take more time, bunnyhopping should be removed entirely so that you can only hop 3 times and then exhaust for 2 seconds if you hop a 4th time.This way we could have a fun pirate combat system, but we have these streamers and eagerating "Pro's" who want to turn SoT into the next toxic shooter game where disrespectfull trashtalk and insults are the norm.
@bugaboo-bill yes this game has slowly driven towards the streamer crowd which in my opinion is a shame. I don’t like the mentality it brings to the Sea of Thieves universe either. The most fun I’ve had was a cutlass duel on an island against another pirate from a galleon crew. As my solo sloop burns and sinks this other pirate and I traded cutlass swings, blocks and lighthearted banter similar to the Princess Bride duel scene. I ultimately lost the battle but this pirate and his crew were excellent sports. Which later we met again but this time formed an alliance and gave each other compliments on our play styles.
Not saying everything should be sunshine and roses. This though is why the game is fun. Honestly if running two guns and instantly kill players is fun. Then your brain is small.
I agree fully on this. Really bad!! I looked up how to do it it’s extremely easy to do it on pc and I’m console. So I tried and practiced and it’s possible to do it with a controller but I feel dirty when doing it. You can also switch straight from sword into shotgun which is a dirty tactic aswell no load animation just instant death for that poor person. Needs a fix the animation exploits are slowly ruining combat. And will eventually take over I’ve had enough and I’ll be doing it more and more if it’s what I have to do ( and i hate it )
Ok first of all the POTC movies are mediocre at best and you all need to get it out of your head that Disney invented the pirate genre or that this game is supposed to be your POTC sim. This is Sea of Thieves, not Jack Sparrow's Swashbuckling Swordbot W+M1 Adventure.
Secondly, tools not rules. If I choose to be my crew's ranged specialist and I'm good enough to hit my shots, there's nothing wrong with that. To use a metaphor from another movie starting Orlando Bloom, I'm my crew's Legolas. Most fights in this game are never fair to begin with. We all have different supplies, and often different ship sizes.
There are ways to fight against DG players even if you want to use sword, but running at them angrily spamming M1 isn't it. Use your brain, use your gun, and learn the mechanics.
@comrade-molly You’re Wrong on your last statement, there isn’t much defence. I am quite smart and a savvy player, you’re talking to a player throws buckets of water at the golden pitcher in the arena hub thinking that maybe I can sink the boat in there and find an Easter egg and the list go on. For you to say just use your brain is implying that I’m not using mine, which is just insulting.
On another note Disney didn’t invent pirates fighting mostly with swords. That’s a historical fact. a good alternative would maybe be slightly increasing reload speed and everytime you swap back to a gun, you have to reload it. While this might not officially fix the problem, but we don’t know until we try and that’s all we can do is try
Everyone should have the freedom to use whatever weapons they want. Dg will always be part of the game so adapt or move on. And another point is why is everyone still crying about which load out is op and which one is better but nobody points out the more important things like broken hit reg and broken server stability.
I agree totally with this especially in the arena. I know there is commendations for getting so many kills with each weapon but the DG spawn camping is awful. There should be a chance to reclaim the ship not having to scuttle it because with 2 seconds of spawning you have been shot twice. Fed up of been killed for an enemy player to repair my ship while I’m dying then soon as I respawn be sitting above the anchor on the sloop already aiming with the EOR.
I play with pc players so I can’t use the controller only servers. It’s near impossible for me to out play a DG pc player unless I get up close with the sword which is very hard to do.
Also for anyone saying get good. Kinda hard to do when you don’t get a chance.

It's a bit too late for that imo.Lol.. that is not how meta's work. Meta is created by the player base by using the tools provided, adjust the tools and the meta evolves. Games change all the time, if the goal is to have a meta that uses all the weapons... you tweak the weapons and see how it changes. This is about game balance! Why should only one type of play style be viable? Should they never given us blunderbombs, fire, expanded damage? Because it was to long without it?
Though I am against locking in a sword, if people want to use guns they should be able to.

As I stated before, I believe people should be allowed to hold two guns if they so please, it adds to the dynamic of combat. Yet the notion it shouldn't change because it has been that way forever is a false notion. Btw if the sword stays competitive the feel might change regardless of forcing it or not. Combat changed a lot over time, it doesn't feel like it was already.

If you dont like getting beaten in PvP practice in the arena mode. If you respawn you get all these benifits; full hp, full ammo, you don't lose your inventory, you can Spawn together, you can get revived, there is two ways on your ship ladders & getting rammed. Dont get rammed and ladder camp.
If none of these tools help you on the seas then you desirve to sink.

A couple of days ago I was playing sloop arena and my nephew and I met a fresh account player who's boat had just sunk but he was in his rowboat, so as we sailed by we shot him with a cannon ball, didn't die so I jumped in think well I'll just finish him off.... that didn't go as planned as this person proceeded to snipe me with his eor than switched to his blunderbuss than finished me off with a cutlass. 3 weapons vs 2 now that was a tough fight. He was either hacking or bugged but having 3 weapons seemed pretty nice lol
Than the guy left after the match right away.
The main issue with double gun is the games TTK. All damage from weapons is burst damage.
Instead of 50 points from a flintlock bullet being dealt immediately. What if 20 points is dealt immediately then over 5 seconds the other 30 points bleeds off. Giving you a red border on your screen indicating bleeding.
This could be done for all weapons. The bleed could stack so healing would become a huge priority. Instead of instant kills.
Bleeding can’t be stopped unless you ingest meat. Fruit would only heal during a bleed.
I’m sure this could be tested and tweaked?
@k3rrzz Sounds like you been playing on PC server just goto xbox only server for arena it's more balanced and you dont have to keep fighting against the same toxic based players on the pc servers I play this game on both xbox and PC I play adventure on PC but the arena is where all the toxic PC players hangout and you always get the same ppl to go up against as the pc servers are dead these days best way to get the event done is just goto the xbox only server it's more enjoyable in arena then PC arena its gotten so bad when I play on pc I meet the same ppl over and over again super annoying it's just limited ppl playing

@atomicfire4098 your right pc gamers in general are much more likely to be toxic in every game but I do put up with it cuz I only play on pc
We are pvp hungry...seldom do we make an alliance. I prefer to steal loot over earning it and we board people all the time...we use cutlasses. Double gunning takes the pleasure of mincing foes away. We like to toy with our prey before delivering the killing blow so dont worry, there is cutlass users that will kill you, sink you and steal all of your loot too.
