Server changing/merging gone wrong

  • Today morning (Lisbon time) i fished for about 2 hours in Flintlock Island. I stored all my fish in a storage crate and started moving to cook it. While walking and jumping around to get to my destiny my character went to the middle of 2 rocks and black-screened, so i was sent to my ship again. Immediately after, the game changes/merges servers and when i go back to the island, to which i was parked 10 seconds away, all my stuff was gone. It's not the first time i lose all my stuff because of this, or that something happens like not being able to move around and crash into an island with my ship.

  • @bambalez put the stuff on your ship asap, so it's safe, at least until other pirates come to get it

  • @schwammlgott exactly, until other pirates come get it. Since im solo slooping its much more safe for me to park nearby and island and fish in the island instead of remaining in the ship. If my ship get caught off guard because i'm fishing they wont keep my fishes and i can then just rowboat to a seapost. Therefore it's much more viable remaining on aa island fishing, partially hidden from potential attacks.

  • @bambalez there are so many spots to fish, where you AND your ship are completely hidden...
I play solo a lot and don't have problems with getting sunk

  • @schwammlgott well sorry not everyone is as good as you, buddy. Maybe you should take that into account.
Either way, im fine losing my stuff to another player. it's just part of the game. Im not ok with losing my stuff because of poor game mechanics, and thats the issue im trying to address here. it shouldn't matter whether im in my ship fishing or not. Loot shouldn't be de-spawning/vanishing from a player, in a limited time of interaction, like in this context.
Please add constructive arguments related to this topic, not wether i should play the same way you do or not.

  • @schwammlgott Also, ome fishes like Pondies, Wreckers and Islehoppers may require for you to be off your ship.

  • @bambalez it doesn't just despawn, but a server merge is something else...
I just told you, there are many spots where you can safely fish, and all you have to say is, that you fish where and how you want?
Server merges are not bad game design, it's neccessary, so there are always ships around...you said, that happened more than once to you? So why don't adapt?

  • @bambalez sagte in Server changing/merging gone wrong:

@schwammlgott Also, ome fishes like Pondies, Wreckers and Islehoppers may require for you to be off your ship.

    Pondies, yes
    But the others not

  • @schwammlgott Again, this topic wasn't made to discuss the way i choose to fish. That shouldn't matter for any player as long they doing it the right way. Of course i will have to find ways to adapt, but the objective of this topic is to let people and devs know whats going on.
AGAIN, i ask you to refrain from commenting nonconstructive arguments, which are not related directly to this topic.

Regarding server merge/change I'm absolutely in favor of it, and i never said it was bad. What I'm saying is the way it's happening currently, the mechanics of it, need to be adjusted in order to preserve better the players progress in the game.

  • @bambalez so you want, for example, if you got loot on an island and you get merged, the loot should merge with you, no matter if it's on the other side of the map or just the island ahead?

  • Server Merge used to only happen when your anchor was dropped. Now it can happen at any time. Which can lead to some bumps and bruises. (and very occasional death).

I don't like it the change. But it's not the end of the world.

  • @schwammlgott This is why i mentioned the "limited time of interaction" feature. If the player has been in close proximity and interacted with and item in a short time spam, then that item shouldn't disappear from whatever server the player is on.
    To answer your question:
Imagine you on an island and you have an storage crate full of fishes, really good fishes, and all you have is a rowboat with you because you lost your ship for whatever reason earlier.
If you character gets stuck and teleported to the ship, and right after the server merges/changes (all occured in less than 25 secs), even if you're on the other side of the map, that loot shouldn't be disappearing.

  • @viperishemu2992 Totally agree.

  • @bambalez and then it was over 25 seconds, let's say a minute...you would again just come to the forums and complain it should be longer...

Be happy, that at least the stuff on the island you are, merges with you, because it does that!
Stuff that isn't on your ship shouldn't merge at all imo
    I'd say bad luck then...

  • @schwammlgott I can't tell you what should be an appropriate time for this to happen. The 25 seconds were just relative to what happen in the scenario i described, being that everything occurred under 25 seconds.
I am happy with the game, or else i wouldn't be playing it. The devs rely in our feedback and experience to better the game, and this is exactly what the forums are for.
Another example of server merge/change going wrong is just finishing killing an NPC galleon and the loot disappear on you.
It is bad luck indeed, but this are all mechanics that can be improved, and thats what we're here for.
I'm trying to remain objective and only discuss the topic and how we can make suggestions to improve the game. But you remain persistent and conservative in the way things are by opposing all arguments with no other valid argument, negativity and saying "Bad luck then..". What is it that you're trying to achieve? I don't want to make this personal, but after investigating your posts it looks like a personal trait you have to just be opposed to almost everything that's posted in the forums without presenting any premisses to back you up. This isn't right. You lack of rightful judgement. Therefore i won't be answering any of your nonsense from now on.

  • @bambalez so you've been pretty fast investigating my posts...which one of the almost 4000 did you like the most?

If everything would merge with you (as I said some stuff does), guess how laggy the servers would be, guess how much stuff lies around? Stability isn't the best in this game, so why suggest things that might make it worse?

  • @bambalez If you had been parked with in the banner of the island, you would have kept your storage crate. By parking further away, this is your fault, not the server merge. If you did not know how the merge impacted nearby items, now you do.

  • I have lost a ton of loot due to server merges, and I think the system is fine as it is. At the moment of a server merge, the game takes account of objects in the immediate area of your ship. This includes Skelleon/Kraken/Meg loot as well as things on an island if you are close enough.

Doesn't seem like a worth while cause to keep track of every single item that each player has touched within a constant shifting time-frame.
